He was quiet for a moment, staring into her eyes as well as at the rest of her face and though it might seem awkard, it wasn't because his eyes were gentle and his face was relaxed if slightly curious. Blue eyes flashing, she grinned at Josephine. "I see a Lady who is trying to stir up some fun and maybe a Lady who is afraid to let me see her real self." He stopped for a moment, before adding one more comment. "And I see a Lady who enjoys dancing nearly as much as I do."

"You came here with me though," Grace interjected. She could tell Amira felt bad about taking some of the credit, even if it was implied. "So... can we go now?" she asked Lady Florizel, not sure what else to say. No doubt it wasn't the proper way to phrase the question. She sounded more like a peasant girl than a princess. Would it be more fun to be a peasant? They didn't have to go to fancy schools and learn how to be dainty and proper.

Lady Florizel nodded. "I'll see to the arrangements. You ladies may be excused," she said. She reached for her bag and put her lesson plan and the other various things set on the desk inside. It wouldn't be too much trouble for the cooks, and it would save the kitchen servants some cleaning up later without any silverware to worry about. She waited for the two of them to exit the room, and then followed them out, locking the door behind her.

Rylan had sat quietly with quick and subtle insults, but Aaric was taking his little joke too far. Making him look bad seemed to be one of his specialties lately. Plus, he had dragged Coralie back into it. That was the final straw. "You are dead!" Rylan declared, tackling his brother. With any luck, he'd be taken by suprise and Rylan would have the advantage. Wasn't fighting also against the rules? Who cared at this point anyway? It was too late for regrets.

Lord Taite knocked on the door to the Magical Creatures classroom, and when no one answered, he opened the unlocked door. There was Lady Maybelline, standing at the window, her willowy blonde locks swirling around like the wind itself. Quite suddenly she was falling over her dress, forward toward the window. Quickly he ran to catch her, falling backward himself, the two of them landed in a sprawling heap on the floor, his arms still firmly around her shoulders.

Lady Josephine's face turned a light shade of pink. Never before had someone complimented her like that. She looked at Canis, black eyes meeting his blue eyes. She was silent for a moment before she smiled. "My real self? That part vanished years ago," she whispered, her gaze falling to the floor.

The shock rippled through her, and for a moment, Maybelline was unable to comprehend what had just happened. But then she felt powerful arms around her, the familiar scent of Taite nearby. Her eyelids fluttered, and her face turned bright red when she saw Taite. "Taite, are you alright," she asked, her voice brimming with concern.

Amira held back a giggle at Grace's question. She was so much more... fun than Amira thought she was. "Thank-you," she told the headmistress, curtsying again before Lady Florizel walked off down the hall to spread the news of the picnic throughout the school. It would certainly be exciting. "Sorry," Amira said immediately when she was out of earshot. "I don't know... Something about her made me nervous." She gave a small, quiet laugh, almost a giggle. "But you did wonderfully!" Amira praised happily. She was sure that she wouldn't be that put-together, had she have proposed the question to Lady Florizel. "And we get to have our picnic." Amira twirled around happily, her skirts lifting a little off of the ground as she did so.

"Ah!" Aaric said, surprised as his brother jumped on him. He admitted it, he did take the joke a little bit too far. Rylan was on top of him now, but Aaric wiggled out of his grasp and onto the floor, quickly standing up and promptly jumping back onto him, pinning him to the ground. He was suddenly unaware that Coralie was still in the room, and immediately got into the spirit of the brotherly tussle. "Sorry!" he said. Aaric was nearly laughing, but he knew that it would only anger his brother more, and forced himself to hold it in.

Lawley smiled gently as her saw Anita offering her hand up to the horse. Whiskey seemed to smell a trace of the apple she had been holding on it, and gently began to nuzzle it, his lips tickling her hand. The horse and she definitely had some kind of connection between them. Lawley turned away and picked up the apple that Anita had dropped and tossed it into the Whiskey's food bin. He turned away and picked up the saddle and the reins hanging in the back of the stall. He waited for the two to get more acquainted before he placed the two onto Whiskey.

She smiled slightly as the horse nuzzled her hand, searching for my apples. Little by little Anita felt herself begin to relax, even if it was only slightly. Ever since she had met Lawley he seemed to know how to make things so much easier for her, even when she was scared out of her mind. She watched silently as Lawley placed the saddle and reins on the creature. Anita wondered how she was supposed to get up on him when he was so big...

Moving his hand from her waist, he tilted her head up that she was looking him in the eyes, a stern look in the blue orbs. "You might think that, but I have a feeling it's merely hidden, realeased only when you get lost in your music." Placing his hand back on her waist, he twirled them around again, watching as she did the small customary circle.

Coralie had begun to space out again, and so she was startled when Rylan leaped at Aaric. Had she heard the earlier comments, she most likely would have run off to her room by now, but since she hadn't, she only watched with a mix of curiosity, amusement, and anxiety.

They're brothers, she reasoned with herself as her face fought a smile. They probably do this all the time. Nothing will come of it. Despite her reassurances, she still looked on carefully, slightly concerned that somebody would get hurt.

The cold began to tickle again, and she quickly covered a cough with a handkerchief. There was a tightness in her chest, but she ignored it; it would go away in time. It always did. Maybe a nap was all she needed, or some time to settle in.

The girl sat down and leaned against the door frame, her small body blocking potential visitors from entry. The smile she struggled to hold back broke free and revealed a single dimple. How fun having a sibling seemed to be. She had no siblings and few friends, and rarely had a chance to have fun like the twins did.

Coralie closed her eyes and let her head fall gently against the frame, smile still in place. She could already tell that she would love the school.

Damien felt a tickle of presence, but cast it out of his thoughts. The students in his room grew louder - a pair of boys play fighting, no doubt - while a blond sat quietly on the threshold.

Isn't it against the rules for girls to go in the boys' dorms? he thought to himself, though it didn't matter much to him. The girl just didn't seem to be the rulebreaking type, that was all.

She quickly lost his interest, and he turned away to wander elsewhere. Where to go? "Where, indeed," he muttered to himself, starting up the staircase again. He gave an exaggerated sigh as he went, dragging his feet.

The sixth floor was the ballroom. To Damien's grief, the voices of a man and a woman sounded from inside the doors. He dropped on the steps and groaned before falling back onto the dusty stairs. His dark, gloomy eyes gazed up at the ceiling. There really was no place in this estate to be alone.

Lukas felt that he had been asleep for hours but when he opened his eyes, it was still broad daylight. "Ugh," he muttered as he sat up in his bed. He cracked his neck a bit before readjusting his eyes to his surroundings. That was quite a nice nap. He felt he was refreshed yet calm at the moment. Thank goodness there wasn't any disturbance or he would've woken up cranky. He got off the bed and began putting away his items into his drawers. The day seemed long for him. "When is lunch?" he muttered to himself as he realized he didn't eat anything this morning except for water. He finished tidying up his belongings and threw the empty duffel bags under his bed before walking out his room.

No one seemed to be around, which was good for him. Quietness is peaceful and good, or at least it was to him. He walked down the corridors and down the stairs. He had passed by about four people, seemingly to be busying with themselves. He walked down the halls and decided to check out the classrooms. As he walked down the hall, he noticed two girls had came out Lady Florizel's room. They seemed to walk towards the opposite direction as he was. Slowly, he approached and walked passed them quietly, overhearing about a plan of a picnic.

Aurora glanced over where Webster stood as she noticed he was dazed at the painting. "Come on now Webster," she said to the spider along with a smile, "Let's move on. I shouldn't have mentioned that before. Sorry." She continued her way down the hall as Webster followed. She didn't want him to be bothered anymore with the painting as she was assured that he would've felt depressed or something if he stayed any longer.

She continued her way down the hall until she came to a halt at the library. "Ooh..." she said as her eyes widen, "Let's check it out." She quickly opened the door and let Webster to go in before herself. "Look at the books!" she exclaimed as the door closed behind her and her heart began to race with excitement. The library was huge with books filled in every spot on the shelves. "I wonder if there are some magical spell books!" she wondered out loud as she dashed towards one of the shelves and took out a book. "Eh? How to be a Princess?" she read the title as her eyebrows narrowed. "What kind of book is that!?" she exclaimed and placed the book back into its original place. "Where's all the vampire, zombie, and all-that-good horror stuff?" Aurora continued her way down the aisle in search of the genre as Webster wandered down the aisle, looking at the stacks of books and their titles.

Despite what he had thought, Machi heard the music continue and it seemed to be coming from where the disgruntled prince had disappeared to. Thankfully by the time Machi had decided to follow (and found said prince on the stairs) the music had stopped. Since he didn’t feel like his curiosity was worth satisfying to cross the walking, breathing miasma of bad vibes, Machi simply turned around. There were plenty of other place to investigate.

Oh Machi was intent on turning this place inside out. To him, this structure was just like the other ancient temples, that existed through out his island. Why, with such an expansive history, surely this place had a few secrets of it’s own. Namely a few hide aways, secret passages. Maybe…even a few traps. Even his own palace had many secret passages and rooms. He knew for a fact that only half of these secret rooms were known to his family, even less to the servants and people who worked in the palace.

Years of braving countless temples and under ground passages had taught the boy what to look for. Humans always used the trick of eye to discourage the unwanted, but there was always a pattern to their methods. Namely the most dull feature to a room, or the most ornately decorated item. These were the most likely choices because one; they were only obvious to the one hiding the room, and two, they blended in to those who did not know the secret. Machi grew excited and all horrible thoughts of being away from his home, his palace, his people, began to fade…Oh what could this extravagant ‘school’ be hiding? Surely something…..of it’s past?

Machi examined every corner, wandered into every room, (avoiding the rooms with people if possible) just imagining what this old stone monster was hiding in it’s rooms. Excitement ran chills up the boy’s spine just thinking about it. Machi checked every corner, every crack, sometimes walking on all fours to follow the lining of the walls to check for small scrapes in the floor to where a hidden door could swing out. Suffice to say he found a few. However since he didn’t see an immediate mechanisim to open the ‘supposedly’ hidden doors, he moved on. The next time Machi looked up, it was the old and ancient smell of paper. It held a musky smell, something you’d expect to smell in a room that had not been entered in ages. Excited the boy followed his nose to a double door room. With out any hesitation he opened the doors to find himself confronted with hundreds of shelves and even more books! His eyes grew wide taking in the sight.

Ah! This must be where the people here kept their manuscripts! His palace had something similar, but most of them were scrolls…maps…Before his mind slipped off to other things, the boy shook his head reminding himself why he was here. Secret rooms. Yes! If any room held secrets, it would be this place! Quickly setting to work, Machi walked along the walls, looking high and low for any signs. There were others in this room, but Machi only acknowledged them with a curt nod before moving on, once again, upon all fours as if he were some wolf sniffing about for his prey. He did note the large fire place with the highly ornate mantle, already noticed a few scratch marks beneath it’s iron grate that held up the wood. Most likely the back feel away or the bottom opened up once the grate (which served as a means to hide the entrance) was removed. That was the most obvious trick. In his palace there were several fire pits that did the same. There was a very large fire pit that a regular sized person could walk into, that held a secret passage. It was utilized as an escape passage that held a few hidden rooms that the servants used back in the day when their island was at war with pirates. The most trusted servants knew about this secret now. Fuego being one of them. But from that large hide away, it inspired the construction of similar fire pits with the same function in mind.

Machi would investigate it later if there was indeed no other hidden passages (the boy refused to believe that! That was just a bunch of moonshine!). But all of Machi’s imagination, thorough searching and experience rewarded the boy. While following the wall of books that boardered the library Machi felt a slight breeze from one of the book shelves. Another sign the boy looked for. He could feel a faint cool breeze flowing from the lowest shelf. In the farthest corner of the library. There were no windows near by. So that only told Machi one thing: A hidden passage! It was in the perfect place, behind rows of books and a place light could not reach! People tended to stay away from such places because people did not like the dark. Squatting on his back legs the boy began to pull a few books out from the lowest shelf. The air came more easily…There was definitely something behind here! Once Machi cleared enough books, he could see past the shelf and see there was a dark space where the should be a wall. Very sneaky, he looked at the upper shelves to get a rough estimate on how big this space was. It was a low crawl space. Very nice. It was small enough to discourage those who found it, but who knew? Some crawl spaces open up to bigger rooms….Maybe even passages. Machi smirked obviously pleased with himself. Why, if this turned out to be a passage to some hidden room, he could possibly have found a hiding place. At the very least it could probably be some sealed up passage, or even a secret passage to another one of the rooms in this castle! The island boy wondered briefly if the staff knew of this passage. Maybe they did, but then again, by the looks of this passage and how dusty it was back here, it wasn’t likely. This was a small hidden crawl space for youths. Come to think of it, Fuego had told Machi something of an odd rumor going about this school. It had something to do with people, children especially, disappearing when the school was once used and functioned as a castle…. Could this passage have something to do with it?

The Lady's soft, pale face turned a light shade of pink as Lord Canis tilted her head. Her black eyes met his beautiful blue ones, and she felt suddenly drawn in. She was thankful for the circle, but when she came to face him again, she could not look at Canis. Josephine's scarlet hair swished with eahc step as she finally looked up at the Lord again, her face flushed.

"I'm perfectly fine," Lord Taite assured the lady, who appeared quite flushed. "The more important question is are you alright?" His green eyes cast her a concerned glance, seeming not to realize that he was still holding on to her somewhat protectively. He misread the meaning of her expression as shock and embrassment that she had stumbled rather than the real cause. It was hard for him to focus on the situation when Lady Maybelline was looking up at him after all.

Grace smiled. "Yeah, she's kind of scary, huh? Oh well, she doesn't seem that mean... though she did give me a dirty look when I had my elbows on the table.... Anyway, let's go out into the garden. The skies are clear today, and it looks like most of the flowers are still in their August bloom," she said, for once sounding somewhat regal. She headed a few steps toward the main doors before glancing back to see if her new-found friend was following.

Lady Florizel passed the girls and headed into the dining hall, and then into the kitchen, and informed the cooks of the change in plans for lunch. That done, she headed to the servants quarters to tell them to spread the word abou the picnic to all of the students and teachers. She felt quite partial to having a cup of tea, and hoped that the preparations for the picnic would be quick and painless. The headmistress watched a few servants gathering picnic blankets and crystal weights to hold them down with - you never knew what the wind was likely to do. One overturned blanket would upset the whole operation.

Rylan, on his stomach now, with Aaric's arms pressing him down, summoned up his strength and managed to shake him off. It was then he remembered Coralie was there. She was patiently watching with a slight smile at their antics. "Sorry," he said, and cast a look at Aaric for him to do the same. "We shouldn't have done that." He was flushed slightly with embarassment. Fighting like that would never have been tolerated if they were caught at it. Fencing was the more suitable way for two young nobles to settle a quarrel, especially in dealing with a lady's honor.

[Really? I scanned through N.A.T.A's posts, and saw no conversation or motion toward Max. I think he was referring to kopipiko's character Damien. I've tried to engage Max a few times, without success, so I may have to drop him]

"I'm fine." Lady Maybelline turned away from Taite. She began to come into it, and realized that Lord Taite's arms were still around her. Her face turned red yet again. She had never been so close to Lord Taite before, her heart beating a little bit faster. But eventually she looked at Taite again, her face still flushed, her green eyes unable to look at him straight on, but instead staring at his hair.

Canis smiled slightly, glad that he had ellicted another smile out of her. He pretended not to notice the blush, trying to be a gentleman. Still smiling, he began to slow the dance down somewhat, eventually bringing it to a stop. He held onto her for a second longer than was actually necessary, before gently letting go and bowing, a tradition that was overly formal but none the less a tradition to him. "Thank you for the dance as well as the conversation Josephine."

Cassi leaned against one of the parpets, looking down at a few of the people who milled about, a silent longing filling her, a longing that she would never voice aloud. Throughout her childhood Cassi had been seperated from the other children, kept to a certain section of the castle and made to act like a perfect lady of the court, even though she was no older than 10. It was one of the main reasons she resented her mother, though Cassi knew it wasn't all her fault. Some of the blame lie with her father and elder sisters as well.

Thinking back to earlier in the day when she had cut herself on what Damien had called a 'rose', Cassi was again reminded of her parents cruel methods of punishment. Although they had only phsically hurt her one time, it was close enough to almost kill her. If it hadn't been for her elder brother Rion, she likely would have died. Sometimes Cassi thought that if it hadn't been Rion, it was very likely that she would have run away at the very least. Rion...the day he had disappeared had killed her, though to anybody else she was as silent and dull as she always looked; part of it was that she was afraid to let her parents see how close of a relationship she had with him and the other was that her mother detested it when she cried or acted like a normal teenage girl. Cassi never really knew for sure, but she felt that the only reason her mother treated her the way she did was because Cassi was the only child that Martha was ever able to give birth to.

Brushing back a strand of silver gray hair, she brushed those thougths away at the same time. Here and now was not the time to be thinking of such things. Leaning back against the parpet so that she couldn't be seen, Cassi began to sing; not loud enough to be heard down on the castle grounds, but it was loud enough to be heard if one took the time to listen. It was a song that Rion would sing to her as a child to calm her fears and to put her at ease. Now that he was gone, she sung it to herself in times like these, when she felt that she was alone in the world.
PostPosted: Sat May 17, 2008 8:49 pm

Josephine realized that Lord Canis was going to leave as the dance slowed. Her hopes fell, and her mood faded. "Must you go," she said suddenly as he bowed. Immediatly, the Lady looked away, her face bright red, her ears burning. Lady Josephine could not believe what she had just said. Her scarlet hair formed a veil over her face, thankfully, to hide the humiliation she was feeling right then.

OOC: I did try to have Machi talk to Max when he was in the room, but Machi always called him 'Room's Mate'. sweatdrop But I moved Machi since nothing happened. Sorry for the confusion.

Deciding to brave the dangers, Machi slipped into the hidden passage, first he was on all fours, since the crawl space was so low, but as he predicted, the space opened up. But not by much. There was only space for one person to walk as the passage was narrow. Thankfully light streamed in through cracks here and there from outside or other rooms. It seemed as if he were moving behind the walls of the school, or at least in between them. But this was no mistake on the builder's part, these spaces were made to be walked.

Riddled with cobwebs and ages of dusty, Machi walked, sometimes he'd see the path deviate in other directions, but he kept his hand along the wall to not get lost. So these places went every where? Oh it would take a good portion of his time to discover it all, he did feel a pang of regret not checking out that fire place in the library earlier on, but this was excitement enough. There were scratches on the wall, deep ones he could feel with the tips of his fingers. It troubled the boy because they didn't seem to be made deliberatly. And if he had to place his hand in the right form to make them, it looked to be as if someone was taken against their will by someone else.

The dread set in at that time as Machi suddenly questioned weather he wanted to know where these passages lead. He still did as he was curious as to where an abducter would take their captives behind the walls. But he was afraid to know the answer.

Beside himself, Machi debated, but once his hand felt the wall fall away into a large space, and a portion of a wall that was meant to slide away, he stopped wondering and crouched. There was a heavy slab of stone, but it had a handle on his side. So he figured it could only be opened by one inside the passage. He gripped the handle and gave it a good shove, but it seemed stuck. Not to be discouraged Machi repositioned himself and gave a harder shove throwing his weight into it.

Suddenly the stone slab decided it would move quite easily and slid open, causing Machi to lose his balance and fall into the room. He tumbled as he tripped over the fire place grate and rolled like a little dusty human ball into the room where he found himself confronted by three students.
