Karite smiled as he watched Serena toss the ball the first time. It was always fun competing although he was determined to win. There was no point in getting frustrated like everyone else had began to. Karite looked up as he heard Serena speak of a high flying projectile only to be blinded by the sunlight. As he looked down trying to shield his now frying eyeballs the ball flew out of the sky and hit the boy in the head. Looking up at her his eye began to twitch. "Lets try tossing it a little lower next time doll." Karite said grabbing the ball and readying himself for his own throw. "Let me show you how its done."

Karite looked at Serena with a smile and gripped into the ball harshly. It seemed that no matter what he did this ball was going to go to high or to fast. So he tried to arch his arm this time with the throw and instead of going to high it went flying across the beach. Serena was going to have to be very fast in order to get this one. "Sorry Serena, hope your quick." Karite said as he squinted from the shame of throwing the ball so hard.

"Ahh..Sorry!!" Serena clasped her mouth with both of her hands when she saw the ball smack Karite in the head. She couldn't help but smile a bit, though. It was kind of funny, after all. Well, it looked like the 'expert' was going to show her how to throw a ball over the net properly.
It was a total surprise when the ball went zooming by unexpectedly. "Whoa, strong throw-" The Raiken literally had to sprint as fast as she could to the other side from where she was standing and jump for the rubber ball. She was almost there-a finger touched it..a hand-and then she fell to the ground. "Not fast enough to get by me." She stood up with the ball clasped in both hands in front of her. Serena was smiling brightly at her success. Her shoulder was throbbing a bit from the fall, but nothing serious at all. The pain should go away..or at least it would be gone and then come back tomorrow as soreness. She sniffed and then looked at the ball. "Hey, looks like we finished, Karite!" She walked over towards the net and tossed the ball up and down in her hands.

The snake kept his eyes on the ball. Kane was better than he initially expected. The ball flew high and the snake went to get it, but his position had the ball between him and the sun. As the angle of elevation and altitude began to decrease in the sphere a glare of light shot past like a sniper’s bullet. It struck right into the gold suns and made them hastily disappear into darkness. As the small framed youth dusted his eyes the ball slammed to the floor by his side. “A stupid mistake….” the child scolded himself.

Orika frowned at Maya, wondering if the girl was mocking her by only throwing with one arm. Regardless, the ball went so high, almost far enough that for a moment the farm girl thought it would disappear into the clouds. The unrealistic expectation soon proved fortunate as Orika ran to catch the ball, hands held high in the air. The rubber bounced off her finger tips and if not for the dive Orika made at the last second, she would have never felt the satisfaction of holding that stupid sphere in her arms. "We did it, Maya!" Orika shouted, slamming the ball onto the field like an overly-testosteroned athlete. The ball bounced up, barely missing the girl's chin, and causing her to fall back onto the patches of snow that managed to penetrate through the thick canopy of trees. Looking around, she saw that Karite and Serena had also finished, though Orika wasn't sure whether they completed the exercise before or after her and Maya. She was much too busy concentrating on Karite, whose clothes were still at the top of the cliff. But more than that, her ears burned at the sound of him calling Serena a 'doll.' Sure, she was gorgeous... and tall... with nice hair... and probably stronger than her, but did that mean he had to flirt with her? Was she being too paranoid? What if Karite had only given her a compliment to boost their score? Besides, wasn't she supposed to be the one upset at him for being negligent, not the other way around? Obviously, Karite had not meant to spite her, but the girl still felt something sink in the pit of her stomach. She kept telling herself his actions were unintentional as she walked over to Maya to give her a half-hearted thumbs up.

Taking a calm stride to pick up the ball, gold eyes turned to see his peers. They had finished already. “Hmmm… Perhaps Serena would have been a better pairing for this…”. The snake quickly shook that though from his mind. Twinkle eyes a better pairing? Feh. It shouldn’t matter who he was paired with. The objective would be the same. It was better to gain experience from an upperclassman anyways. Although it was infuriating for those other losers to scrape by. Maya and Orika was more understandable. Shisei was starting to come to the fact that the warrior woman was probably the strongest of the genin. Judging from those he’s seen so far. He’d have to pick up better in singles competition. “We’re going to have to make up in another competition Kane-sempai.” the serpent said tossing the ball back.

Kane saw his partner get struck down by the glare of the sun, and immediately felt a little guilty. "My bad!" he called over before getting ready for the catch. He saw that everyone was done already. Maybe it was because they'd lost the lead due to all their fumbles. Granted, he hadn't been paying much attention to them, so he didn't see any fumbles on their part... Keeping a careful eye on Shisei, he waited for him to toss the ball. He certainly didn't want to prolong this stage any more, especially since they were the last group to not have finished yet. Kane just wanted for this to end so they could move on. Oh, and getting his stuff back would be nice, too.

Kane really thought he had it. He felt the ball touch his fingers and rotate downwards. He could contain it safely within his hands if he got it to roll down his outstretched fingers. As Kane moved to contain it by clenching, though, it slipped out. The ball had been really high and, well, Kane was still a few months too early to catch it using that method at his present height.
"Don't worry, we still have the whole day," he said to his partner, forcing a smile. Kane was no longer as optimistic as before, but he wouldn't be a good Yamanaka and shinobi if he couldn't bluff it up. Besides, it wasn't like Kane was lying. Although he recognised his limitations, he also believed in his own strengths. He could also see that Shisei had strengths that weren't apparent from the surface. Much like Kane's initial estimate of him, actually. These unique looking ones were always the most interesting. At any rate, Kane threw the ball across the net. He made it look easygoing, but in reality he was carefully calculating the best position for his partner to catch in. Whether he succeeded in getting it there was another story though.

"Way to go Serena, you must have some magic hands. I don't think I could have gotten that one." Karite noticed Orika and Maya were done next. He smiled and waved at the two women who had him under lock and key. He was not upset with Orika just a little confused on why she keep ditching him today. It was odd but he could never be mad at her. "Nicely done Orika and Maya-Sama. I see you too are going to be stiff competition for today's events. I wont hold back if you don't. I promise you that much." Even in the mist of so much competition it was funny to see that he could still manage a smile. It seemed nothing short of death itself was going to be able to stop Karite from smiling. Looking over at Kane and Shisei it seemed they were having some difficulties. He knew Shisei and Kane were better than that after all Kane was a really good swimmer. "Come on Shisei, show what you got. Cant be the best if you cant catch a ball." Karite said crossing his arm letting the scar from the barn yard fight show on his right side. It was hard to believe that out the three Karite was the least of anyone's worries. Orika was stronger than him hands down. Shisei had more brains then he did for sure, but what skills and abilities did Karite have that surpassed his companies? Was he as weak as Shisei said he was or was their something he was missing?

How degrading. To place last against those two. This was the only thought latched into the snake’s mind as he waited for Kane to retrieve the ball. The two had a pitcher arm, but neither seemed to be adept enough to catch the throws. The day was already turning out rotten. The boy could only heave out an irritated sigh. Maybe Xyn did have the right idea for not showing up. He’d notice some of the other slackers were also not there. Perhaps Shisei should have did like them today and shirked. Well he couldn’t not while his hot-blooded handcuffs wanted to participate.
The blonde teen took up the ball and before sending it over the net he replied to the surly child. “All day…!” those were words that could almost mortify Shisei. Having both of them look like fools for the next eighteen hours? Shisei was not having that. He had better things to do. Karite’s comment did not make him anymore happier. With the ball high into the air, the serpent placed both arms out and allowed the ball to slip into his grip. It was as smooth as bird landing into its nest. No doubt Kane had aided, by slowing the ball down. Still it was still an embarrassment for that team. “You’re right. I’ll have to be more serious from now on.”. The child sneered slightly and tossed the ball away like light thrash. He walked away from the other teams and took a seat on a rock with the same bored, surly look like before the event started.

“Heh. Not bad Shisei-kun. You got the arm of a champion. Indeed you do. But I don’t think I want you as a catcher on my team. That I sure don’t.” freckle face said with a small laugh to his companion. Little snake just said something in return and began to gaze back out at the environment. “Aww come on. Don’t be glum chum! That you shouldn’t be. Indeed not. The day’s just starting and there is always time for redemption. Yep yep! Indeed.” with that the russet eye boy turned to Kane scratching his head a bit. “You too Kane-kun. Don’t wind up in last place. Show them good ol one two and box there ears. Do that you should.” Brassa stated with a smile turning to the blonde.
The serpent had once again returned to his people watching. The first contest had went to either of the other two teams. Not a good way to start off. If things didn’t shape up he’d have to find a new partner… before his thoughts could be finished Brassa intervened with a small pat on the back and a laugh. Both gold orbs turned to the child for a second. “I don’t want you on my team at all. You do know you can leave and go somewhere else anytime?” he hissed back before returning his gaze to the other competitors. His head had already blocked out the cheerful boy and was examining his competition. In the end the others weren’t all that desirable to partner with either. Him and sly smile would probably be along the lines of him and the crow this morning. That would be more of an argument than anything. Seeing the energy bunny and the reaper on a daily basis has dulled his will to form an alliance with any of them. Not that he wanted to anyway. The only one desirable would be quiet lioness. She definitely had the pure power to do the exercises, but the biggest question is if the power was too much. It wouldn’t make sense to partner up with her if she overwhelmed her partner. The only one left was Kane who didn’t fall into any outstanding areas at the moment. Hopefully on the next exercise the blonde poster model would show more of his capacity. If he has anymore.
Scoping Out the Competition
While the others play Shisei will stay. For future purposes, it will be good to see just how well everyone does in these competitions.

Shinichi lazily watched the students run, jump, dive, and catch the pointless tasks he had set out from his relaxed, sitting position at the top of the cliff. Oh, well. He could always claim that there was some semblance of training in this unusual relay. Either way, it didn't look like the students really cared whether they were being productive or not, as long as they had fun, and everyone except for that grouch Shisei seemed to be enjoying themselves. Oh, it looked like the competition was finished. Shinichi started walking down the cliffside wall, using his chakra to glue his feet to the rock as he scanned the children's faces and breathing rates to determine who had finished in the fastest time. By this time, only Kane and Shisei were still tossing the ball around, probably consequent of the snake's refusal to participate otherwise. They were way behind the others and in no position to win. So it came down to Maya and Orika or Karite and Serena. Well, the cliff diving was too close to call, but the ANBU could recall how he noticed Maya spending almost no time looking for pearls while he was worried Karite might turn into a fish from all the time he spent underwater.
"Congratulations, Maya and Orika!" he commended, giving them a couple of claps. "Everyone here is a genius, you know, each student pairing up with a genin instead of just making a genin powerhouse. Good job on playing it fair and making this competition actually worth watching." Shinichi walked up to the three participants and nodded, pleased at their willingness to work together without complaint. Gone was the normal scolding about not being manipulative shinobi. Shinichi had realized there was more to life than winning, especially in the context of sporting events. It was way more important that his teams worked together to make the fairest teams to ensure that everyone made it through alright. "Maya, that tekagi looks a little rusty. Why don't you take it to Hammah-san to be sharpened? Better yet, have him plate those claws with steel. And Orika, you can do the same with one of your weapons when I give them back to you. I'll put in a word to the smith for both of you." Shinichi shielded his eyes and looked to the horizon at the sun to estimate the time. Time flew when they were having fun and the early morning frost had transformed into this almost warm atmosphere two hours before noon. "It's almost time for the next event. Let's head down to the Training Grounds for some fun," Shinichi invited, handing out the clothing he had brought from upside the cliff. He had been surprised to see how well these shinobi's muscles have grown from the first time he saw them, particularly the girls. With a casual salute, Shinichi turned and walked leisurely to the next event.

"We won, Maya-sempai!" Orika cheered as she leaped and did a carefree twist in the air. Unfortunately the girl wasn't the most agile of ninjas and ended up falling right on her butt. Still, she giggled and listened as Shinichi announced their prizes. For a second, she thought he had found out about them stealing weapons and froze, motionless while her heart thumped like a pounding drum. Oh, Ero-sensei was a sly devil! She bet he really did know and was just going to torture them until they went mad and crazy and finally had to tell him of their horrible, terrible crime! ... Or not. Orika put on a smile and decided that she'd have to upgrade her club, illegally gotten or not. She looked around for Karite and Shisei, wondering when the best time would be to sneak off to the Weapons Shop to craft a few items. But with Ero-sensei always on their tail throughout the whole day and Karite who would rather lose an arm than miss a competition, it would be nigh impossible. Oh, well, if Hammah-san found out, then he did. Nothing they could do about it and besides, their weapons were fairly well hidden. Orika thought about how she buried her kama and club behind a tree back at the Grounds. Only a lion could smell the blood, which was good in case she ever forgot which tree. Kore could help her with that. Speaking of which, as the girl puzzlingly glanced at Karite, wondering whether she had the right to be upset at someone who didn't know he'd upset her, Orika's hand flew to the wire she'd been working on earlier. No, not now. It wasn't complete yet. "Nope, I would never go easy on you, Karite!" Orika said with a smile and wink. The girl laughed all the way to the Training Grounds, her step light and airy as her thoughts. With the exception of Shisei, she couldn't stay mad at anyone for more than 5 minutes!

Karite would have to see Hamma sometime to see if he could help him with his task. It wouldn't be much but the least he could do was show Orika how much she meant to him with the pearls he got. Right now though hes sole concentration was on winning the rest of the day. "Alright then, looks like the next task is up after all. Well Serena we didn't win but we did our best. Nicely fought anyway." Karite smiled as he began to grab his articles of clothing. He slowly slid his stiffen legs into his pants and buttoned them up. They were almost as cold as the water was but at least he wouldn't be half naked anymore. Taking his mesh shirt he slid it over his head be careful not to get it caught in his Kunai earring. The last thing he needed to do was rip his earring out of his ear. Sliding the mesh shirt over his scarred body the boy took out the locket around his neck and let it dangle over his heart. Grabbing his last piece of clothing his black vest the boy swung around and tossed it on like nothing ever happened. "Guess I will see you guys at the training grounds." Putting his hands in his gloved hands in his pockets the boy walked off following Orika. Pausing Karite turned around and whistled loudly for the cub to follow. He had a feeling this next obstacle was going to need some feline prowess.

"Looks like we came in a close second." Serena said to no one in particular. She started towards the training grounds with a satisfied smile on her face. Today was going to be a fun day, or at least, a more enjoyable day than usual. "Good game, you guys!" She gave a small wave at all the participants, knowing that they would probably be going to the next activity with her. The Raiken wondered what they would be doing at the training grounds..hopefully something that did not involve water again. She was still trembling slightly..it had not warmed up too much, yet, and it would probably take a while for all of her clothes to dry out.
