Gwyn felt the chunk that was left. Find a side suitable to rest it on to ensure it wouldn't roll away as she prepaired to cut it. Gwyn settled for laying it upright, meat faceing the board. This would making cutting it a bit more of a strength issue and less of an issue of placement. By minimizing her variables Gwyn hoped to maximize her success. If she could make it just a matter of putting a knife through a piece of cucumber then she could have had this done in a heart beat. However; as it seemed it was also the task of ensuring the thing didn't move, ensuring the safety of her fingers, and also overcoming her own disadvantages. Doing this task solely on instinct was teaching Gwyn not only a bit about dextarity, but also a lot about herself as a person. It seemed with each exercise during her time at the academy Gwyn was descovering a lot about herself. For instance, she could be social when the mood struck her, and also she was prone to quick and violant mood swings. All in all she was shaping up to be a normal girl. Gwyn was aiming for extrodanary, but would settle for better than mince meat if thats what her life came to. She still had plenty of time in the acadamy to descover herself however, so she was sure she would learn plenty of new things along the way. Gwyn preped her knife as she readied herself to finished this damned task. She was getting so hungry though that it was hard to be as cold and calculating as she had been not moment before.
As Gwyns knife came down she felt it slice through the cucumber. With increasing speed the little girl grew faster and faster with her cuts, ensuring that the bits would be as fine a cut as she could make them. Although it had not been a long period Gwyn felt how much stronger she had become, both as a ninja and as a person. Perhaps Andou was a genious after all... Most likely not, he seemed more lucky then anything else. Gwyn finally let happyness wash over he face as she turned to Tenshi, she owed him a lot of thanks, he had gotten her back on track, he had been acting as a true friend. Gwyn finished her task by placing her bowl of cut cucumber with the rest of the sushi bits and returned over to Tenshi. "Thank you Tenshi, for your help earlier that is." Gwyn threw caution to the wind and embraced the boy in a hug. "I really needed the help." Gwyn hated to admit it, even to herself, but sometimes it was nice to have help from others. Of course that didn't mean Gwyn would cese her efforts to become the most powerful independant ninja she could be, it just ment teamwork didn't seem so much a handicap as it once had.

Tenshi flashed a smile when she was finished, "No problem. It's what being a ninja is about. Never give up, even if the odds are against you." The funny thing was if he could listen to his own advice sometimes. "Don't be so hard on yourself because of your eyes. Everyone has somewhat of a curse, it's whether you take the time to overcome it." He said clinking his fingers together indicating the metal gauntlets on his hands. Sure he didn't really have to worry about cuts, however, it was still a possibility of getting a cut and if he practiced now then it would be second nature when they were off. "Looks like all we need is the lettuce, carrots, and the mix yet..."

Gwyn hesitated a bit. She didn't really want to do any of that simply because it seemed other people were already on it. She knew if she was in their position she would have wanted to complete the task herself, just as she had asked Tenshi not to help earlier. She didn't want people to take their help the wrong way, and seem any more rude then she already was. At the same time Gwyn was becoming increasingly hungry and wanted to get this done as fast as possible. So she stood there for a moment, contemplating her options. Option one was to help the older man, Andou's friend, with the lettace. If there was anyone who wouldn't mind a bit of student help it would most likely be him. Gwyn nodded to herself, as if this thought needed conformation. "I think its just fair to let all the students have their own try at their task. But Andou's friend seems a little above our level, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a couple extra hands if you want to do lettace?"
Gwyn gave Tenshi a weak smile before going to clean her knife. She felt an odd conection to him, just as she had felt towards Tarou. They both shared an element. In his case he had that weird chakra, and she had her weird Kekei Genkei. It wasn't very close to a similarity, but it was enough for Gwyn to feel a bond between the two. Slowly and surely Gwyn began feeling like this academy was the place to be. She was making friends, a task which she had thought impossible until this moment in life. She was making bonds with the people she would one day lay down her life for, and who in return would lay down their lifes for her. It was her job to ensure she was strong enough to protect everyone in the party when that time came. That was why she was here. To be a protector. "Whadda' say?" Gwyn flourished her knife a bit pointing at the lettace with her free hand.

"I agree and perhaps he would be the one to ask about what happens after the academy. We were all wondering and we can always let Tarou know later," he walked over and followed suit with Gwyn. He had helped Gwyn by merely holding the cucumber and giving her some advice and not really cut the cucumber for her. Sure it was nice to help out, but this was also training...right? Eventually you may be on the field alone, with no one to rely on and only others' advice. He walked over towards Andou and the other man, grabbing some lettuce and raised his knife to cut it.....
When he brought the blade down he forgot to remove his finger from the knife's path and the metal clinked against metal. Tenshi looked at the blade and now noticed a pretty dull spot on it. "Hehe.... oops..." He scratched the back of his neck in embarrassment. "Probably should have taken my advice on that one..."

Gwyns eyes opened a bit, and even in their pitch black beings a sparkle could be seen. Tenshi was absolutaly right, if there was one man here to ask about what happened after the academy it would be him. Now Gwyn had to overcome two things. The first thing being working up teh courage to ask him, the second being physically asking. Perhaps that would come after they were done with this lunch. After all nothing went better with food than a good heavy conversation right? Gwyn sighed a bit unsure really what she was talking about. Gwyn grabbed her own head of lettace and placed her board next to Tenshi's. As much fun as she was having with him she couldn't help but wonder where Tarou had vanished off to. No doubt training hard and ignoring his stomach, she would have to remember to bring him back some food. Gwyn raised her knife to the board and prepaired to cut it in the same fashion that she had the cucumber, recalling Tenshi's advice. The Lettace didn't have a hard outer shell however so she was unsure how this tecnique would work with the new medium. But that was life, test, and see what happens.
It seemed even for the lettace the method of cutting vegatables from Tenshi was more or less universal. Perhaps because it was just the proper way to cut all food. Gwyn didn't know for certain. Gwyn looked over as she felt Tarou hit his guantlets with his hand. That was the issue with having armor like that, it made on a little less carefull then someone who had nothing but skin and their instinct for a deffense barrier. "You should be careful." Gwyn laughed a bit, poking a bit of fun at Tenshi's expense. "That cutting technique you taught me is rather good, so yes, I would say you should take your own advice." Gwyn didn't do encouragment very well. She never really had anyone but herself to encourage and more often than not she was beating herself down, not building herself up. Gwyn piled the lettace strips into a bowl that she would later put together with the rest of the strips that the other two cut.

Kuri got himself started on the next carrot, placing it down on the chopping block as he spun the knife that was in his hand. He meant only to flip it 360 degrees, but ended up spinning too far. when he tried to press the blade against the carrot to peel it, the knife simply ran along the side, never actually cutting the flesh of the vegetable.
A bit embarrassed, Kuri chuckled to himself as he turned the knife around to try again. This time, when he ran the blade along the carrot, he slipped, cutting straight through it about half way through instead. Feeling really silly now, the boy sighed as he picked up the carrot. He told himself he wouldn't keep screwing up. Slice Carrots into strips d20 + [0] DC: 10 1/5

Tenshi chuckled, "For once I'm grateful I have these things on." He usually hated the things and wished he was from a different clan, like most children who grow up with a hard life, but it was something he couldn't change no matter how hard he tried. Until his father died for his clan and then Tenshi turned over a new leaf, wanting to do whatever he could for his clan, although at times he still felt shackled to himself. He grabbed the knife and looked at it, seeing it was still good to cut.
He took his own advice and held the knife close to the soft green vegetable and pushed down on the blade, cutting easily through the crisp lettuce. He sliced the lettuce into fine strips, placing it with the other already sliced ones. Kuri was catching up with the carrots, which was good because Tenshi was getting hungry and eager to getting back to his training to finish up the chakra molding he was working on. "Alright! Almost done so we can eat!!" He celebrated, of course placing the knife down first before throwing his hands up in the air.

Gwyns smiled a bit as she watched Tenshi cut the lettace. The confidence with which he knew how to do tasks such as these made Gwyn unsure of her own skills. If she had trouble cutting simple things like this what would happen once the target started moving. Gwyns smile slowly faded as she drifted in to deep thought. She supposed the first thing she would have to do was master this sixth sense of hers. It gave her the ability to be everywhere at once in a limited area around her. Her eyes gave her sight of things that many others overlooked. Even the eyes of the legandary Uchiha and Huuyga held no candle against her own. They did the exsact oposite of what hers did. They let their user focus on fine detail while hers gave her a broad picture. Theirs let the user seem to be 8 steps ahead due to increased reaction speed, hers let her be infinite steps ahead because it could adjust to even the most random of occurances. Gwyn shook her head coming out of her deep state of thought, a smile once more forming on her face. She had no reason to be down on herself, if anything she should feel sorry for those that would never be able to experiance the world as she did. Gwyn grabbed another piece of lettace and raised her knife to it, ready to chop it to bits.
As Gwyn began to lower her blade she noticed that she had never actualy let go of the vegatable. Feeling quite silly she put it down and laughed. It was unlike her to do something so air-headed. She was normally very aware of her surroundings, but when she didn't pay enough attention slip ups like the one that had just accured would happen. Gwyn shrugged it off, not beating herself up about it because it was in no way the fault of bad training but indeed was just her being a bit empty headed. Her empty stomach was most likely not helping the situation, but Gwyn didn't want to point fingers at such a source of distraction. If she was going to become a ninja she would have to get used to dealing with hunger such as the one she was feeling now, there was nothing to do but focus on something else and move on. So Gwyn did just that, placing the slab of lettace on the cutting block. "I can't wait to taste all our hard work." Gwyn giggled a bit licking her lips.

Gwyn had never had sushie before. She knew it was a form of raw fish, but that was about it. Her taste buds were ready to get their own training in, identifying flavor pallets and the such. It had been a long time sense Gwyn had trained her other senses. She was constently working on her powerful sixth sense, but she often ignored her sense of smell and taste. If she wanted to become a well rounded individual she would have to work on all of her senses. She would also have to learn how to block them out to make her other senses stronger. Gwyn thought of the possibility of strengthing her sixth sense to a level even beyound what it was now. She almost sniker at the thought. As it was now it was litteraly imposibe for people to sneak up on the young girl. And her "vision" of 360 degrees made it easier to pinpoint enamies tricks as it was. But surpassing even that level? The things she could do with that power. Gwyn gave herself a smile as she stared down at her lettace. This was her first enamy. One day, however, she would be faced with real people, and when that day came, it would be her job to protect herself, and her friends. Gwyn readied the knife, placing the tip on the board and rasing the body above the lettace.
Gwyn chopped the lettace into strips with the precision of a master chef. Her lines were clean, her edges crisp. The girl felt very proud of this accomplishment. She hoped her elder wouldn't mind the fact that Tenshi and Gwyn had chosen to finish the task for him. She almsot knew he wouldn't care, after all he was most likely here to eat and talk to Andou, not do some silly student tasks. Gwyn thought about verbaly appologizing but decided against it. If the man was hard set against them help she supposed there was nothing stopping him from making extra just to feel accomplished, but the work was done for the food and that was all that mattered. Gwyn turned to Tenshi eyes wide. "This food... Will be amazing." Gwyn's stomach had gotten to the point were it would eat dirt if it needed to.

"Ah... thank you for finishing the job up for us," Andou said, slightly surprised, as Tenshi and Gwyn took it upon themselves to cut up enough strips for the salad. Well, Gennosuke and himself had been taking quite a long time to do it. Relieved that he didn't have to do any more work, Andou surreptitiously chucked the lettuce into a corner.
He took a quick inventory of what still had to be done and turned to Keon. "Well, if you could help Saihoushi with the carrots that would be much appreciated." Realising that he had to keep the fish fresh, he nodded at Gennosuke before going to collect the fish in two boxes and deposited them into the fridge. Then he returned to where Gennosuke was and washed his hands. I mean there was no work left to do, so...
He picked up their conversation from where they'd left it off. "Oh? What does your mother do?" He was a bit disappointed that Gennosuke hadn't got much done, but then these things happened. "Do you have any idea what you want to specialise in, then?"

((don't forget, someone has to roll and slice the finished maki, so there's another dex exercise.))
No matter how many times you say you won't fail again, anyone could tell you that often, you still do. Kuri cut the slanted edges off the two pieces of carrot and set them with the peels before standing one of the pieces on its broad end, keeping the vege stable with his left hand as he prepared to cut down the side with his right.
The plan was to repeat his earlier success, only vertically, but what he didn't take into account was the fact that carrots were not exactly cylindrical. He slid the knife through the orange flesh, only to end up cutting a wedge out of the thing instead of a uniform strip. Kuri shook his head and set the knife down a moment, taking some time to calm himself down. If it were only a sword, he thought, then he wouldn't be failing so much. ((ah, much better))
Kuri laid the carrot pieces back down, since he seemed to have better luck that way. He sliced the carrot again, this time going back to the technique that worked best for him, and managed to get it right this time around. He was regaining his confidence with the tool, and with it, his skill, peeling each segment before slicing more identical strips, making two separate piles for the different parts.
The funny thing was, before, he could eat, but now, he seemed starved. All the workout in the world did nothing to make him hungry, but two minutes around food and his stomach was screaming. Slice Carrots into strips d20 + [0] = 15 Pass DC: 10 2/5

The second carrot out of the way, Kuri almost added the remains to the compost pile before moving on, but instead, snapped one of the pieces in half and popped it in his mouth. Every cook tasted his work before it was done, how else were they supposed to know their cooking was good? The old saying goes that you should never trust a skinny chef because they clearly never eat their own creations, but Kuri liked to think that he was an exception. Sure he was like a rail, but that didn't mean he wasn't a well fed rail.
Third carrot was next on the block, and Kuri made quick work of it, peeling, slicing, nipping, and piling all done in a flash. He certainly looked like he had done this kind of thing before, and if his knifesmanship was anything like his swordsmanship, it looked like Kuri was going to make one hell of a swordsman.

It was carrot number four now, and Kuri was looking good. He was about half way done peeling it when his stomach growled loud enough to be heard throughout the kitchen. He looked around a moment, wondering who heard it, though something told him the answer was everybody, before finishing up. His cuts were slightly less true, probably because he was getting a bit cocky, but the pieces were still thin enough to use. Slice Carrots into strips d20 + [0] = 11 Pass! DC: 10 4/5

Gwyn was going to approach the carrots as Andou had asked her to, but by the time she had made up her mind to give assistance Kuri seemed to have almost finished. It didn't make sense to lend her aide if he was fully in control of the situation, besides it would be quite rude of her to barge in and steal his thunder at the end. Gwyn would have most likely struck herself down if she had been put in her situation. Gwyn simply smiled and prepared the snow crabs. That was after all the next step of the process after the carrots were finished, and they would top it off with the fish that had been butchered. Gwyn could feel the food getting closer and closer, and the more she thought about it the more hungry she became. Gwyn turned to Tenshi after grabbing the snow crab out of the refrigerator. "He seems to be doing fine on his own, lets get ready for the next step eh?"
As much as Gwyn enjoyed the thrill of completing training on her own, at this moment she felt like doing it with her fellow students. Partly because she wanted to share in the experience but mostly because she wanted to get the food done quicker. If everyone pitched in to prepare the food, instead of doing tasks apart as they had done, Gwyn was positive the would load would feel less cumbersome and the work would get done that much faster. As much as Gwyn wanted to start right away she still needed to wait for Kuri to finish. "Say when you're done, would you mind bringing those over here?" Gwyn called, collecting the cucumbers she had worked so hard to chop up, along with the lettuce Tenshi, Gennosuke, and herself had prepared. She finished by grabbing a bit of the salad dressing that would be the finishing touch to this dish.
