Cindy nodded, "Yup, she wanted to find her ball, and she thought the boy might know where the ball was, since he lived there and she had never been there before."
She nodded a bit to herself.
"So she asked the mer boy, have you seen my ball? It is a small ball that can fit into my hands and is so white it glows. And the boy thought, and he thought, and he recalled something falling out of the sky, but you see the ball reminded him of pretty stones that were at the bottom of his lake that were much smaller and were so white that they too glowed. He had simply thought the sky had bigger stones like his up there."

Adonai looked around as if he were looking for something, then tapped Cindy on the knee. "Wight back," he told her, hopping to his feet. He scampered off to his bedroom, where he stretched as high as he could to open his closet door. He disappeared inside for several moments, rummaging through the things on his floor, then clutched something tightly in his tiny fist and ran back to where Cindy was waiting for him.
"Heah," he nodded, holding it out to her. He held out a tiny stone, barely bigger than a pebble, for her to take. It was a dull gray, for the most part, but had white-green swirls around it.

"Oh?" Cindy inquired softly as she held out her hand to hold the tiny pebble, she hadn't seen pebbles like that back home, but then again she didn't often go looking for them, "What is this?"

Adonai set the pebble firmly in the center of Cindy's palm and closed her fingers tightly around it.
"Hode it," he told her solemnly. "Hode it hawd." And he put his two hands around hers to make sure that she was holding it tightly enough. A look of concentration crossed his chibi face.

She did as she was told, covering the pebble with both her hands and holding it tightly. Though she wasn't quite sure what she was going and it looked like he was trying to do something, or he expected the stone to do something.
"Okay..."

Adonai waited a few moments, then let go of Cindy's hand and gently pried it open. He put his face close and cupped his hands around his eyes, then giggled.
"Look!" he laughed, sitting back again and opening her hand completely. "Aww gwowy!"
He giggled, even though the light from the stone wasn't visible anymore now that it was being drowned out by the sunlight.

Cindy shaded the pebble a bit so she could see, and indeed he was right the stone was glowing. Not just sparkles and things of that nature when stones were found, but it actually glowed.
"How does it do that?" she asked.
Though she wasn't sure if Adonai could give her an answer.

Adonai giggled and closed Cindy's fist again. "Pretty," he giggled. "See? Now Cinee have pretty gwowy 'tone! Don' got fin' fishy boy fin' pretty gwowy ball!"
He paused, growing serious. "No fishy boy heah, you gotta wook wong time find you ball."
He was a little confused as to the logistics of the story.

Cindy giggled, and hoped that Adonai wasn't thinking she was the birdie girl, but then again she was more bird than any of her other siblings, so she supposed it did make sense in a way.
"Well, where I come from, there are fishy boys and fishy girls, there are all sorts of people back home."

Adonai blinked and stared at Cindy. "Fishy boy at Cinee's home?" he asked curiously, poking at the stone again. "Fishy boy at Cinee's home have Cinee's ball?"

"Well no," Cindy replied back with a smile, "My ball is probably stored away somewhere, it's a story. I haven't lost my ball, but there is a fishy boy back home and a fishy girl too."
She supposed she had been confusing him, pehraps he was use to real stories, not like the real ones were any better.

Adonai stared at Cindy, confused now, then reached out and poked at the stone.
"Cinee ... aweady have ball?" he murmured quietly. "Not want have pretty 'tone?" His eyes lowered to the stone, and he looked thoughtful. "Cinee come f'om up inna cwouds? Pway wif fishy girl, fishy boy? Now Cinee 'tay wif them, pway wif them?"

Cindy realized that it was either age, language barrier or both and she kind of wished for help at the moment.
"Uhm.... Adonai..." she murmured. "It's a story, it's not a story about me. I live in an inn with my brothers and sisters."

Adonai took the stone out of Cindy's hands and rolled it around in his palms. "I's a pretty 'tone," he said reverently, examining the green glow on his skin.
He looked up at Cindy. "Cinee not wike it?"
