Well Rol the purpose for the OU restriction is to make Sinnoh Fair.
Sinnoh being the newest has the access to some of teh best pokemon in the game, considering that IV's EV's and natures became more popular once Gen 4 hit.
All regions do get a handicap from this but it does help balance the tourney so Sinnoh isn't guaranteed a win.

It's also good because you get to use Pokemon you're unfamiliar with. :3
And Drifblim is really helpful. =D
I don't use it cuz it's not my cup of tea, but I battled a dude with a really cool strategy with Drifblim and Bibarel.

yea I can't stay up any longer...this nyquil really ******** me up bad...I tried counteracting the drowsyness with mtdew but...nah didn't help
