Well, there wasn't an answer from the man, but Ryugi HAD to know. If this wasn't the real Maximos, then he was either a figment of Ryugi's imagination made real by the void, an imposter, or perhaps something even more strange. Either way, Ryugi spoke.
Your lack of response makes me question this...miracle I see before me. If you're holding back the truth in consideration of my feelings, please, I ask you as a friend of Maximos, do not hold back the truth for me. As much as I wish you are you, I would not want to be carrying a false truth around with me.
If you ARE truly the real Maximos, I may be able to help you reach the living world once more, but if you are not, then please, tell me who or what you really are. I am sorry, but I MUST know...
Ryugi's eyes showed compassion, and truth. He was a big boy, and he could take whatever the real answer might be. Even if this was not the real Maximos, Ryugi knew that if anyone could find a way back to the living, it was his friend.

::He took a deep breath, slowly exhaling. The little skull nobs at the end of his hoods pull strings blowing in the gently wind.::
I'm sorry. I'm not really him.
::He reached into his pocket pulling out the black pocketwatch. The cold dark metal had a skull carved into its top, and with an unassuming click it opened, and he nodded.::
Theres still a while to go before I'm placed here. A shadow, to guide the past to provide a better future.
::He smiled from ear to ear, as he clicked the watch closed and slipped it back into his pocket.::
Im sorry, you seemed so excited, and he would be so glad to know that he meant so much to you. Though he probably would have been worried if he knew you were here...why are you here, Ryugi?

Ryugi sighed. But he was only slightly dissapointed. 'A while to go before he was placed here.' is what the shadow had said. That statement alone made him believe that the real Maximos was indeed out there somewhere, trying to get back to his friends. Even in death the man didn't appear to give up...
Don't worry yourself with it. There is still hope that he really is out there trying to find a way back afterall. Not even death can prevent everyone from returning to those they care about. Nothing in this world is perfect, not even death itself. I'm sure Maximos understood that.
Ryugi sighed a bit, but then smiled and leaned up against one of the massive roots of the towering Tree of Life, the top of the root easily being hundreds of feet above him.
In a sense, I cheated death myself. By all of my knowledge, I shouldn't be alive right now. But, here I am, right as rain, and with some new powers to boot. However, to answer your question, I'm not really sure why I'm here. You see just like Maximos probably is doing, I too am trying to return to my friends and loved ones.
He reached into his white coat to fish around for something, finding it a moment later. He then pulled out a glorious pendant that glowed with a whitish blue energy, and held it in the palm of his hand for the shadow to see.
And this pendant is what will help me do it. Apparently it has the power to put me back in the material plane. All I've got to do is find what my friends in the fire plane called a "Planar Hub".
Ryugi sighed and placed the pendant back into his robes, adjusted his position, and then leaned back again, continuing his explaination.
The only problem with that is that I don't know what a Planer Hub looks like. I can only assume it is a place where all the planes of existance meet in a single area. While traveling through the fire plane I came upon a massive swiling vortex of energy that seeme dto spiral into another place. I jumped through it with the pendant, and ended up here.
Ryugi looked around from side to side, and up and down, moving his arm as he looked, passing it over the area as he spoke about it.

::Interesting...and more interesting by the moment. He folded his arms across his chest rubbing his chin as he tried to think. Hmm...he knew loads about this place as he'd been here for an immeasurable amount of time. Immeasurable really only because the days didnt flow in any real order.
His left eye seemed to sparkle at the sight of the beautiful shiney in Ryugi's hand. It was so pretty...so sparkly...so blue and bright...he had to keep from drooling. Some old habits just die hard!
Thankfully Ryugi took it away from view in time enough for him to actually catch on to the conversation.::
A planar hub, hmm...
::He rubbed his chin a bit more before sliding his hand up and itching the back of his head.::
I cant say my world jumping knowledge is what it should be but...I guess this might count as a hub of sorts!
::He smiled gesturing out to the wide blank landscape.::
It doesnt look like much, but if you close your eyes an concentrate this place can be any place you'd like it to be. And randomly, people are pulled from unknown and impossibly distant worlds just to fight and be sent back. Would that count?

Ryugi's hands came to his chin as he listened to what the shadow had to say, weighing it carefully.
If what you say is true, then this place might very well be a Planar Hub. It seems like it would have to have access to all the other planes in order to call up these strange places. Perhaps what I feel into was a sort of drain where energy from the fire plane leaks into this place. If this place IS a Planar Hub, then all I'd need to do is find a border between this word and the physical plane. Since this place has to be in contact with the plane in order to move people here, there MUST be an area where I can access it, the only question would be where.

Well if thats all you need, just think about it.
::He paused for a momnt, as if waiting for Ryugi to do just that before he realized how odd it was to suggest someone just...think. With a bit of a chuckle, he started filling in the gaps.::
Close your eyes, and think about...um...Angara! Think of the tree's...
::As Ryugi thought of the tree's slowly they came to be around him.::
...the sights, the sounds, the tastes...
::And with a memory of each sense, the sense was supplied. It was vivid, it was so very very real, and yet at the same time it so very much wasnt.::
The people cant come, but everything else can. Focus on the picture, let it grow and fill your mind.
::And when or if he did, the terrain became more and more detailed, more and more refined and filled in. Until finally, he patted Ryu's shoulders again.::
Ok, now look.
::Ryugi was in Angara! Well, not really Angara did not have a giant tree extended out of its surface, but everything other detail he imagined short of the people was here. The tiny tints and shades of the leaves, the smell of fresh forest. The only problem was the lack of any life besides the two men, no squirrels or birds, or anything.::
Here you are! Clearly, its not entirely real, but assume its really close!

Well, this is indeed amazing. But my guess is that I'll have to find the REAL border between the planes in order for the pendant to work. If I didn't know better I'd think I was in Angara.
Ryugi looked around at the sights as he pondered how to go about the next step.

::He scratched the back of his head.::
I dont think it works that way Ryugi.
::He pointed out to the horizon, past the current realm where there as nothing but bland empty white making it impossible to judge distance, or depth, or location.::
This place has no boundaries, it just echoes on and on, and on. Most people are "summoned" here by an unknown force and pitted in combat with each other, and then sent back to thier individual homes when the match comes to a close. Others...
::He seemed to get a chill down his spine and look quite uneasy just mentioning them.::
...the others are born of this madness. Thier bodies seem to be crafted to match...as do their minds...
::He shook, as if casting off a shiver.::
Chaos those things...utter chaos. But, with the exception of the, I've never seen a being simply leave. I could only assume that to exit a price must be paid equivalent to the price of you entering. For some, they must give in to defeat...perhaps if you had anything to tie you to the material plane.
::He gestured to Ryugi, more toward the dragons mid section, and pocket area.::
...something expendabe, to give up? Perhaps even a powerful memory?

Ryugi looked quizzically towards the shadow for a moment, then at his chest. What did he me-- Oh... He opened his coat and pulled out a small cloth bag. It wasn't much to look at, and seemed to be of no major importance at first glance. However, to Ryugi, it was perhaps one of the most important items on his person, and the ONLY item that was ALWAYS with him. He even kept it by his bed when he slept at night. The small bag was a dark blueish-green, and had patches all over it, showing that it had been repaired many times over the years with loving care, the way a mother might place a band-aid on a scrape or cut. It was tied with a worn, leather, piece of string, and as it emerged, Ryugi knelt down to the ground, gently placing it at his feet. I never told Maximos about this bag, but it's perhaps my most treasured possesion...Ryugi wore a sentimental grin on his face as he looked down at the bag, his eyes as kind and gentle looking as could be. Even if he hadn't said it, one would be able to sense the adoration Ryugi had for whatever was inside this bag. In it, it held several pieces from Ryugi's past, each holding memories from someone who Ryugi had held dear over his life. A piece of red fabric about a square foot in size, part of Ryugi's Father's cloak. A ring with a beautiful saphire in it, his mother's. A golden earing, one of the earings of his friend Kara, a mage who had passed away in the adventure to attain Ragnarok. A small dagger of his friend Garret, a thief who had become a mercenary along with Ryugi and had passed in a fight with a giant golem. There was also a small toy of an Angaran Soldier with the High Council's markings still visable, a toy from when Ryugi was a child and a reminder of simpler days. The two newer additions also slid out along with the others, a small piece of black fabric, taken from the spot where Maximos had passed, and a set of gauntlets with hidden arm-blades, emblazoned with an "M"... Here you'll find a collection of my memories and treasured possesions... This dagger from a friend of mine who passed fighting a golem. This earring, from my mother... This red fabric, from my father's cloak... This toy soldier was one of my favorite toys as a child, and reminds me that there are always simpler days in one's life, and that we should tresure them for all they're worth, because we never know when they'll be stripped away from us.Ryugi sighed a bit, and then picked up the single golden ring, rolling it over and over in his fingers. It seemed to be in the best of shape out of all the older tidbits in his bag, and even though it was old, it still shone as if brand new. Ryugi's eyes seemed to shimmer a bit as he look at the ring, and a sigh came from his mouth, along with a soft sniff and a long deliberate blink. He then spoke again, his voice cracking slightly, moving the ring around in his fingers as the words came. This ring... This belonged to my friend Kara. She was a white mage, and a half-elf. She had the most beautiful blue hair you'd ever seen, and her eyes were an amber that rivaled the sun's. She was kind, gentle, and had a pure, loving heart and soul. I'd brought her along on my journey for Ragnarok because she'd always wanted to go out and see the world, and she'd practically begged me to take her. After alot of pleading, I finally agreed...
As time passed, she and I became closer, until one night she confronted me about her feelings, and I had to turn her down... Durring that time, Vargus was still on my mind, and I still hadn't let go of her "death". Of course back then I didn't know she was still alive, but either way, I still couldn't return her feelings of love... She was heartbroken, but kept on a cheerful face for everyone when we finally got to the cave that contained Ragnarok...As he spoke, the image of Angara around him and the shadow faded and changed into the visage of the cave of Ragnarok, several fighters, including Ryugi's pupil Damrius came into view, and began to traverse the cave. It was mostly all silent except for a few soft echos of voices that seemed to react toi Ryugi's memories of the situation. The images were also three-dimensional, as if the pair was also there along with them, however, Ryugi didn't see any of this, as he continued to look at the ring as he spoke, the shadow seeing the events play out as Ryugi spoke. The journey through the cave was quick enough, but once we got to the main chamber of the cave, where we were able to see Ragnarok, all hell broke loose...As Ryugi spoke, hundreds of dark beasts phased into view around the small party of fighters, and then all moved in to attack. We fought as hard as we could, giving it our all, but we were losing ground, and slowly, they gathered us into a corner...~*~ We can't hold them off for much longer!
The strong form of Devan shouted as his blade scliced through a black wolflike creature, vaporizing it.
Theres just too many of them! Theres no way he can win this, its nearly one nundred to one odds!
Lamia's blades were blurs as she cut down beast after beast, desperately trying to keep the group together.
Yo Ryu! I hope you've got something up your sleave this time or we'll all be gonners!
Matthew's light blade slashed again and a again, fighting off everything he could.
I'm trying, but any flames I use at this distance will hurt all of you! I can't do it!
Then, the creatures surged forewards, and the entire group was overcome by the beasts. Everyone was knocked out except Ryugi and Kara, who fought terribly to get the creatures off of their bodies.
Ryugi's Sol Blade cut into the horde of creatures that tried to finish his group, hoping and praying he could save them from this event. He was so close to his goal and to think of losing now was almost unberable. Just then, a bright white light emanated from the center of the fallen group causing the creatures to back off for a moment...
Don't worry... I can stop them...
Kara looked over to him, her soft blue eyes closing afterwords. She had her hands pressed against each other as if in prayer, and her body glowed with a brilliant white light. Ryugi could see what Kara was doing, and suddenly, it hit him. That spell... That was her final spell. It used the power of her soul to emit a powerful blast of pure energy that would eliminate any darkness or evil, at the cost of her life...
Kara! Don't do it! Please! The sword isn't worth it! Its not worth you! Please...!
Ryugi's sword cut another bunch of creatures apart as he ran towards Kara. He caught her in his arms and broke her concentration.
Ryu..gi...
The girl was mystified.
Kara... The other night... Just because I can't return your feelings of love, doesn't mean that I don't love you as a friend... I don't want anything to happen to you...
Kara's light still flowed from her body, keeping the creatures back in fear.
Ryugi...I...
But it wasn't to be. Before the girl could finish her sentence, one of the creatures braved the light of her attack and jumped for her. Knocking Ryugi down, and separating the both of them. The creature then attacked Kara savagely.
Ryugi was horrified! He jumped up, throwing the creatures off of him, their claws tearing at him. Blood appeared on his body as they made contact with him, Ryugi's drive and passion pushing him on as he cut down more and more of the beasts. He cut down numerous beats as they lunged at him. He desperately hacked away at them, trying to reach his friend. He could hear her screaming as they attacked her, and it pained him and caused him to push harder, giving it everything he had, he had to help her, to save her no matter what!
You... You BASTARDS!!! COME AND GET ME!! I'M STILL HERE!!! LEAVE HER ALONE!!!
The beasts attacking Kara stopped what they were doing and every single one in the large room turned and headed towards Ryugi. He could hear them coming, running across the ground, their claws digging into the hard rock of the cave floor. He could hear his old master telling him not to do what he was about to do... If sacrificing himself meant saving one more person, then so be it... He then let loose every ounce of power he had in his body. He removed all blocks on his power and let it flow freely from his being. The full power of his flame element erupted from his tiny body as the creatures all jumped towards him.
LIMIT RELEASE!!!
The power from the flames vaporized the beasts with ease, and they kept coming, certain that they could get past them. Ryugi's body was positioned between them and the fallen members of his party, creating a barrier of passion's flame and Ryugi's own will to protect those that he cared about. One by one, the beasts tried to challenge the flames, and each failed. These flames destroyed anything that tried to harm his friends, while protecting his friends with Ryugi's love. The strength of his resolve made the flames harmless to his friends, but devastating to anything else...
Then, once every last creature was gone, his flames sputtered and went out, his element totally tapped until it could recharge... Tired and determined, he forced himself onwards towards where Kara was. He collapsed at her side, and took up her bloodied hand. He looked to her face and her soft amber eyes looked back at him as a gentle smile crossed her face.
Thank you... Ryugi...
Her soft voice came from her mouth as she looked up at him...
You... showed me true love and...caring... But I don't think I'll make it to see you get to your goal...
Kara... Don't talk like that... You'll do fine... We'll get you patched up and you'll be good as new...
She raised a trembling finger to his mouth to quiet him.
Shhh... No more words... You know as well as I do that... this is it for me... Please, don't cry for me... I'm going to a better place... And someday, we'll meet again, just like old times... I'll always be with you... in your heart... But for now... I have to go... Just... remem...ber. Be strong...and live... For...both... of us...
As she finished speaking, her eyes slowly seemed to glaze over, and her hand gently fell from Ryugi's grasp, limp.
He just stayed there a while, in the dimly lit cave, laying next to the body of the only other woman he'd ever been close to since Vargus. The pain of her loss weighed heavy on his heart, but he didn't couldn't honor her request not to cry. Tears fell from his eyes, not for her as she had asked, but due to the fact that he had failed to save her. His skills weren't enough to protect her from death. His inadequate skills couldn't protect everyone that he'd come to call his family. Once more he felt the pain of that.
But he could honor her last request at least. He gently removed her golden saphire ring, and placed it in his breast pocket along with his other memories. He then kissed her cheek, still slightly warm, and stood up. He checked to see if the other members of his party were ok, and, seeing that they were, he then walked to the end of the large room to where Ragnarok stood. He reached out and grasped the massive sword, pulling it free of the rock. As he held it in his hands, he spoke aloud to himself.
Kara... I swear... I will be strong for you... I will fight to protect the ones I care about, using this sword to accomplish those goals. I will live on for both of us... And I'll never forget you... ~*~ The events played out as Ryugi spoke of them, the shadow witnessing first hand what had happened in the swirling mists and energy of the void. Slowly, the images faded, and the voices vanished, the void once more growing quiet as Ryugi's final words to Kara echoed on slitghtly after the images had faded. Kara was the only person in my lifetime I've ever loved even close to how much I love Vargus... She held a special place in my heart, even if I couldn't tell her exactly how I felt then, because even I didn't understand it...
This ring... I bought her this ring on our adventure. It was given to her the night that she confessed to me how much she loved me, and it was on her finger when she passed away in my arms that day in the view of the conclusion of our quest, in the view of Ragnarok... She gave her life to try and save mine...everyone's life that day...and I got in her way, trying to stop her, to save her, and in the end, it was my distraction that caused her to die. And ever since then I've blamed myself for her death, and I've fought to protect everyone I care about, and have tried to get stronger so that they don't have to go through the same pain that Kara did...Ryugi's eyes were filled with tears of sadness, and strong resolve as he then turned to look up at the shadow of his dear friend Maximos. And so... If I must give up one of these things in order to get back to my loved ones on the other side, I would want to give this ring. So Kara...can be at peace knowing that she was...finally able to help me, when I needed it most...After he spoke, Ryugi bowed his head, his eyes shrouded by shadow, as his body quivered, the golden ring clenched tightly in his right hand, a few tears falling from his chin, and onto the ground at his feet.

::What Ryugi might not notice was the warm smile perched on the Shadow's face. It wasnt a teary smile, but one of those warm understanding looks that just tells a person they could confess there greatest sin and the person before them would still understand.
Through the amazing take, he stood silent. As he watched it play, he felt himself driven to join the battle, but the inner hero in him knew it'd be futile, this was only a re-creation.
Before the store ended, the shadow had almost entirely faded. He was lost in the black which enshrouded the area. Ryugi didnt really need to appeal to the Shadow, but to whatever being or conciousness controlled this place. And, as the black overcame him, there was the gently sound of rain in the background. As if tear were falling from the eyes of some distant god.
All that was left was Ryugi, and the ring, and it seemed despite the black shroud encasing them the ring shone so very brightly until, in a sparkle of light, it vanished. And Ryugi's world, faded to black...there would be a very intense feeling, as if he was falling for miles on miles. And the overwhelming feeling of having arrived...where was unknown, how was unknown, even WHEN was unknown...::

Josh - The fight will be Griff's avatar vs. Kawaii's avatar. - The OOC Lounge will be the setting: This includes the Couch, the Fridge, the Rafters, and any other beloved OOC artifacts. - The denizens of the OOC thread will make shout-outs for fight environment changes effective on the next round of posting. Such as: "Fire alarm gets pulled." "Totally." Griff spends ALL of his ******** time in the OOC room, so he's already standing here. Right there against the couch where everyone else sits during these conversations. "Now. I want to make this wager legit for ALL to see. I will put my Ancient Katana up against your G Blade. SHALL WE?!"

Kawaii walks in, scratching the back of his head with the symbol at the end of the blade. It wasn't sharp. Just blunted, so many wondered why the heck he would use a G-blade as a club. For many reasons. For one, Gaia most likely didn't want people to hurt themselves with something that was suppose to represent the good of people. And sometimes the bad. But he just shrugs the thought off and stops about six feet from the guy against the couch.
But then he points the keyblade toward him as he says heroically: "I accept! But I will not let your meaningless quest go on any longer!"
Giving a nod, he grabs the handle with both hands and moves them lower to his right, while the blade is held out front and angled with the symbol at the end having its protrusion pointing toward the ground, but more toward his opponent, to show that he was holding the blade in the opposite way of that of the conventional position, where the more flat end of the blade was used, so that the symbol at the end would not interfere (basically, the blade is held like it is on my avatar, with the symbol at the end pointing downward). He would give a nod, standing proud and ready as his right foot slides back, spreading his feet more apart, causing his knees to bend to prepare for combat.
