Richard blinked. That had been so sudden, and the woman wasn't acting all stiff...haughty. "I-Lady Crystal, I most certainly would consider that an honor, but would somewhat defeat the purpose. I think you need a chaperone to guard you against...me." He said folding his hands on his lap to keep them there.

Richard was caught off guard yet again, feeling his ears go hot. "I'm glad to hear it...but...you are...and I'm...it'll do your reputation no good..." He said, not even sure what he was talking about any more.

Lady Crystal gently reached out and took Richard's hand. "It's not like I'm asking to sleep with you," she said, blushing as she thought At least not right away.

"I didn't say that!" Richard said, ears burning now. "Honestly, I didn't mean that! You're not doing anything wrong, it's just that I am a male, and you shouldn't trust males, because they are liars and not always gentlemen." He said, practically tripping over his own words, the smooth, charming Richard not in the right mind set. Then he looked down to see her hand in his, and he smiled at it. "I just don't want to mess things up for you Lady Crystal..."

"I trust you, Richard," Lady Crystal said, giving his hand a squeeze. "I am aware of the risks, but I...." she hesitated, blushing lightly as she looked away. "I have never felt this way towards anyone before," she admitted, looking back up at Richard.

Richard blinked again, moving his other hand to cover hers. "Lady Crystal...I will not take advantage of you...I like your company, I do, and the fact that you like my work intrigues me...but as you have said, you have not been away from home so far before....I will guard you against things while you learn more about the areas...I would not wish to make you unhappy..." But he wanted to hug her, but how rude that would be. "You are very lovely."

Lady Crystal blushed at the praise, it meant so much more coming from him than all the other people who had said it before. Nervously she reaches up to brush a strand of hair back into place. "You are very kind," she says, carefully shifting closer to Richard. "And you are quite attractive yourself," she adds, her blush increasing.

Richard couldn't help it, he hugged the woman. Gently, so as not to startle her, still talking softly. "Thank you. But just wait My Lady...you still belong to your house, whereas I do not...you must not forget your loyalties."

Lady Crystal hugged Richard back, leaning against him, but pulling back when he mentioned her loyalties. "I should tell you now," she said sadly. "The reason I came here is actually to get Arlen to come back to Aeaea and marry me." Nervously she looked at him to see how he would react.

Richard said nothing for a moment, considering this. Ah...the politics again. Funny how he had ended up in them after leaving them safely behind..."I believe he is attached...do not worry...I understand the politics of it..." He said, two fingers rubbing the spot on the bridge of his nose where two indents lie, from his glasses. "I am not ever going to be angry with you...what do you plan to tell them if he does not return? What is you standing with your people?" He asked.

"I cannot be sure exactly. Most of them are relying on me to marry Arlen," she said, pulling her hands back into her lap and hanging her head. "Doing so is the only way I can see to form an alliance with a nation that would otherwise crush us. I do not know how much time is left either, they are currently caught up in a power struggle for the throne that is rightfully Arlen's."

"Then it is up to Arlen to take his lands and put peace in place...you can befriend him, he can choose not to war with your nation....while marrying him hurts his love, hurts him, and will most certainly hurt you. "

"I suppose you are right," Lady Crystal said looking back up. "But I am afraid that doing so would only temporarily solve the problem. If I were to marry him and produce the first in a line of successors however, Aeaea would be safe for generations to come. But doing so would hurt Lily who I am just becoming friends with, and either way I could not be with you after I leave for home," she said, making it sound like a sadder fate than when she talked of her country beeing destroyed.
