MiyokoxClarinetti I find that my life just sounds interesting because I end up making everything absolutely complicated for me gonk
Anyways, I watched Amadeus last night, oh my mozart it was wonderful! [I can still hear mozart laughing...] But I could have sworn Constanze divorced mozart and their child died in real life....or am I just imagining things o_O;;
O_o the magic flute was written a while before mozart had died? [I wish they had a scene about the clarinet concerto D: ] I always thought it was his jupiter symphony...since it was the last...okay I don't think I've looked into mozart enough o-o;.
yay I have all state this week <3 The first time I saw Amadeus I thought the actor who played Mozart was absolutely insane. xd But it's my favorite movie. 3nodding After Star Wars Original Trilogy...and Advent Children...and Lord of the Rings...and Hidalgo...and Some Like it Hot...and Star Trek IV...and... okay, so it's not my absolute favorite movie... sweatdrop xp I'm having a hard time focusing on my solo. And S&E is in...two weeks? I've got most of it memorized, so that's good...(last year I didn't even have a whole page of last year's solo memorized at this time.) But it's the parts that need memorization that I'm having issues with. Every time I get settled down to work on it, I either get interrupted, called away, or I just plain get distracted and wind up forgetting that I was going to work on it. Anyone have any tips on getting me focused? (Besides duct-taping me to a chair...I tried that. The hair gets caught in the duct tape and it is not fun.)

Oooh I loved Advent Childeren <3. rofl my solo chamber music thing is in 2 weeks too XDD. Hmm tie your hair up then?? rofl or tell people not to bother you? o_O; I'm always distracted, but just try and commit yourself to getting through whatever part you have trouble memorizing.

I'm sharp, very sharp, it can be fixed with a twist up on the barrel, but still...I've had that reed for awhile. Hmm, did you break in that reed correctly? before moving down to size 2 [theres a size 2??????????? O_O;;] theres a good way to determine if you do need a softer reed, first off you wet the reed, go to a flat surface with a piece of paper, hold down the reed with two of your fingers and move the reed back and forth gently, it softens the reed...i think...or was it to change the wave things.. gonk
if not, it might be your embouchure, make sure to tighten the side muscles well and loosen the jaw.
is the reed uncomfortable? Or perhaps way too easy to play on? If its uncomfortable, try moving up a size, just try somehow getting one, and get size 2's just incase. But break the reed in correctly, I may sound a bit like a hypocrite, but, if the reed is good it'd be awful for the reed to die so quickly, and you won't know its real potential [I've had cases where I mix up my new reeds and broken in reeds, the new reeds have a pretty nice tone, but they end up dying because of me DD: ]
how long have you been playing? and how long have you been using size 2 1/2?

My embrochure is tight, so no air sound is made. I used to use a 2, until 7th grade, when it was mandatory for the 3rds to have 2 1/2 (I've been a third my whole life! *cries*) Now it's mandatory to have 3's cuz the back row sucks... Well, they can't tune for crap, I had to tell someone they were flat, they didn't even notice. Arg!!!!! I have the skill to be in seconds, but since I'm a base clarinet player also, that will never happen. stare My reeds are fine they way they are, they're thick enough, believe me. And...I play a... I can't tell if it's plastic or wood! It looks wood, but I doubt it was, it was 800 dollars. It's nice, especially with my warm tone ^-^

Hey! I'm a sophmore at Spooner HS. Sadly, however, my school is going through budget cuts, and there's a HUGE chance that our marching band will be cut next year!!! NOOOO!!!! crying (said band can't even handle straight lines, and the kids run the program because in my opinion, our band director needs to grow some guts and put his foot down!) I play a composit Selmer, and I use 2 1/2 reeds. rofl I think I'll be ok, but I'm not entirely sure!

my old band director wasted all our band funds on some stupid trip to somewhere and we didn't evern play there so now our newand way better band director has barely any money to buy sheet music~~i resent that old band director he was horrible...half of the time we didn't even play...we would sit there watching movies because he was to busy counting all the money he was going to waste on the trip

gonk funny thing, during wind ensemble mr. a made a long ten minute speech about money. people haven't turned in their FIRST payment to be in Band, The chicago trip, and All State. Its a problem because we'll have to fire all our private instructors [15 instructors, d00d that costs alot to pay @_@] and we can't go to festivals this way >_<;. We usually have 100,000, but right now we're down by 23,000 D: [its alot mainly because theres a jillion people in Band]
All State is on Thursday :] w00t!

Riku_Cloud224 1) Write a letter to the superatendant, have it signed by everyone in teh band. 2) Charity. Lot's of people will contribute to music. 3) Protest!!!!! yup :] good idea [except protesting, well maybe, if worse comes...] mm, get some of the best musicians, and try showing them off in a solo/ensemble sit down dinner concert where you have to pay, but then that itself costs money too. But thats the way our Band raises money [other then music at the pointe], the mayor is invited, high school conductors, and parents of course. Atleast 3 tickets must be sold for us. From that we get about 10,800. If you can somehow make a charity event like that, it'd help. But why are they cutting Band? If so, even if marching Band is your most beloved thing in the whole wide world, it sounds horrible but you still have so many chances to experience music, it doesn't have to be marching. If those evil people do cut your Band, then join a youth orchestra, or just make Band a outside school activity. That is when our Band really started taking roots, when 30 people 15 years ago decided they wanted more then just concert band and made a wind ensemble, they did it themselves, getting together at night [my Band director didnt' realize this until they invited him to a rehearsal] and it was that that made the school realize how important it was, and parents too. so I think somehow you can still have Band, even if its not during school. smile .

surprised a good way is to soak it in warm [kinda on the lukewarm side] water for about five to ten minutes everyday, the reed lasts longer and plays better :] and its more moist, especially with ze weather like this, its good to do that ^^.
