Hearing those closing in footsteps catching up to him from behind, Dax tensed in annoyance, but there was something else.. Was it some sort of satisfaction that Sayael did, afterall, give chase after him? Whatever it was, he felt a warm rush inside him that made him feel as if he wasn't so alone in this place. Stopping in his tracks after the other prince had caught up, Dax still folded his arms defensively over his chest, saying he wasn't going to back down just yet.

"And you couldn't have said that before we left?!" the Ice Prince exclaimed, believing they could have escaped that whole argument if the other had just said so. It seemed Sayael just couldn't function without a constant dose of his teasing. But that's where Dax became a hypocrite. He could dish out the teasing, but he didn't like to take it in the least. "Honestly Sayael, learn some proper timing."

Finally looking the other in the face, Dax noticed that astounded appearance. He arched a brow, waiting only a moment, to see if Sayael was going to speak. "Um.. What is it?" he asked, his voice holding less agitation than curiosity. "Did I.. say something?"

It was... good that Dax had, at least somewhat, forgiven him, but.... he couldn't shake that feeling of almost unwanted knowing. He shook his head slowly to clear it, his dark brown hair swishing slightly as he did so, the small charm tickling slightly with a sound of silver bells, though there were only beads and a feather. "No... you didn't say it... I... Well, Lawrence, you see... He looks... an awful lot like you. I hadn't realised it before, but...." He shook his head slowly again, his bright eyes closed. He raised a hand to his head and let it rest there, pushing back the soft hair, as he straightened up. His eyes opened slowly.

"You know, Father didn't have twelve children for nothing..." Sayael said slowly, for once completely forgetting his guard. He was too shocked by what he had realised to remember that, by the general population's standards, the king of the Dark Kingdom had thirteen children. Not twelve. Yes, there were thirteen children. But only twelve of them were th king's. He shook his head again in slight disbelief. He could hardly believe that even his father would go that far. He knew that... well, apart from the two second-oldest children, Terrance and Cecilia, the others' blood wasn't exactly... pure, but he it didn't seem so random any more. Sayael had thought that his father might be up to something, maybe... though he'd simply left it at the reason that the King liked "outside" blood. But this was too much.

And it was then that he remembered the picture. If he pulled it out, well... perhaps Dax and Lawrence would not seem so entirely similar. Perhaps it was just Sayael... missing his family. He could hardly even admit that to himself. "Here, let me show you," he murmured slowly as he dug through his pockets. It sure was lucky he had had the picture made so no water could harm it.... He finally reached it and then tugged it out. There, on the small slip of paper, were the forms of thirteen children -- most of them in there teens, though there were still four who had not yet reached the age of thirteen. Sayael was there, too. However, if it hadn't been for his earlier talk of family, it would have been impossible to tell that all the children were related, as they looked so completely different from one another. The two second oldest, though, were deffinately related and it wasn't too hard to tell why -- though they were not the same gender, they looked so much alike that they had to be twins. And the same went for three of the others, who were slightly younger, and who all had the same brghtly intense gaze. Sayael raised a finger slowly and then pointed to a blond teen with hair only a couple inches away from reaching his shoulders. He had incredibly pale skin and his eyes were a bright blue. And his bone structure... he did look very much like Dax.

"That's Lawrence..." he murmured slowly.

"Well, that shouldn't give you a reason to act so strangely all of a sudden," Dax said skeptically, watching Sayael search for the family picture. "You're probably just getting homesick already." But then again, he couldn't start criticizing the Prince of Darkness for that. Given a few moments of silence or isolation, Dax himself would start thinking about the home he left behind. While he knew he had made the decision to leave with Sayael for new adventure, he couldn't deny he would miss his life back in the Ice Kingdom.

Taking the picture from Sayael, Dax took a better look at the individual the other pointed out. He had to blink several times and even squint at the photo to convince himself it wasn't himself at a younger age, for some reason grouped with these children. "I suppose he does rather... resemble myself," he murmered, seeming somewhat dazed by looking at the one called Lawrence. It took several moments for him to allow his gaze to wander across the rest of the children, pinpointing Sayael, before he realized something.

"Sayael.. I thought you said that there were only twelve of you," Dax said, holding the picture toward the other prince as if Sayael had made an unknowing mistake himself. "Thirteen people are pictured here."

Sayael shook his head slowly. How could he possibly explain the similarities? But then, Dax seemed to understand some of it as he layed eyes upon the small, blond teen's image. But he wasn't sure if it was actually a good thing for Dax to know some of what Sayael had only just himself realised -- things that could be very dangerous if they were leaked out. It would be treason to tell an outsider. But, then, he realised, it was treason to be standing on the ground of this foreign, hidden nation. With such high protections, it was evident that none were supposed to cross over....

He blinked as Dax spoke, a small flush entering his cheeks. Wonderful. He had... he had slipped and Dax had noticed. And he knew he couldn't pass it off as a slip of the tongue. Sayael stood silent for several moments, his emerald eyes looking anywhere but towards Dax.

Then, after some while of silence, he spoke, still not meeting the other's eyes. "Dax, there are... thirteen of us. Thirteen children. But... only twelve of us are Father's children. I told you I didn't belong, there, didn't I? That I couldn't possibly be king, despite my father's wishes?" And his eyes were now raised, the emerald hues both bright with an earthy hue, and yet burning with darkness. "It is true I carry royal blood -- the queen's. But not the king's. And so, by formal law, I do not fit within my father's schemes. Having me gone from the kingdom makes everything simpler. Terrance can inherit the throne, as was meant to happen, as he has pure blood. Didn't you wonder why I... look like this? Why I don't have black hair and black eyes and pale skin like the rest of the Dark royals?" Sayael seemed to have cracked at some point. His eyes were wide with coupled bitterness and frustration, an odd, sour smile cracking his usually laughing lips. "I told you the people would stand to have someone like me on the throne, didn't I? Because Mother got herself kidnapped and raped by some stupid Earth noble who claimed to love her, only who in all hells would do that to someone they loved?!?" His chest was heaving now, though whether it was caused by shortness of breath or by emotion, it was impossible to tell.

"Dax, I... I had to get away from it. From them. From Father."

Far before Sayael was through explaining, all of Dax's previous annoyance and frustration toward the other had vanished. So there was much indeed he didn't know about this boy. But such kept secrets were understandable, he thought, eyes softened with a gleam of concern. Afterall, why would one want to willingly bring up such a tragic topic. Especially since it seemed to cause Sayael such emotional pain, he added mentally.

Dax was momentarily rooted to the spot. Not only his mind, but his heart told him that Sayael needed comforting, but was Dax really the one to do it? There was Faryn and Jillian, but he didn't really seem to notice any sort of connection between them and the Prince of Darkness. He believed there was something, however, something forming between himself and the other boy.. But did Sayael feel the same way?

Shaking his head free from these thoughts, Dax stepped forward and hesitantly wrapped his arms around him. Against his chest, he felt Sayael's own heaving breathlessly. "You're away now, Sayael," he said softly, now knowing the true reason the prince wanted to leave their nation. "Everything is far behind."

He... hadn't been expecting Dax to move like that. Hardly anyone dared touch him when he was in such a pained rage -- but, then, those were the people who knew his reputation, which Dax most deffinately did not. The Kingdom of Darkness, quite understandably, was very hush-hush about their royal line, particularly with the deviations that had been occuring in it as of late. A... hug was the last thing that the half blood had been expecting.

Even more hesitantly than any move of Dax's, Sayael slowly returned the gesture, his grip on the other teen surprisingly loose. He knew when he was... like that, that he lost control and he didn't want to do something horrible like he was prone to -- like maybe squeeze Dax to death or something (though, if he had been rational at that moment, he would have known it impossible for someone with his strength).

He nodded slowly to the other's softly spoken words, face brushing slightly against pale, scented blond locks, head bent down in a surprising air of solemnity. Sayael was usually so... so lively, whether it was with happiness or anger, or whatever other front he chose to don. But now he was... being himself -- and he had far fewer barriers up between himself and others, now that he wasn't pretending to have a perfectly unscathed, carefree personality.

"Thanks..." he mumbled slowly after several moments, his lightly tanned hands tightening against the other for a mere moment to give him a small squeeze showing both thanks and apology.

Of course Dax expected nothing violent from Sayael. He had grown up in a gentle and very kind enviroment. At least when it came to the King's only son. Either way, this treatment had rubbed off on the Ice Prince it seemed, his arms still around the other. Or maybe it was because Dax had come to trust Sayael so quickly. This was basically the first time(aside from their shaky first meeting) he had seen the other in such a mood, drowning out his usual upbeat self.

Pushing himself away at arms-length, he tried to offer a smile. "Hey, don't thank me," he said, his tone lighter. "You're the one who convinced me to come here in the first place. It was all your doing, Sayael. I just came along for the ride." Giving the other a light tug on the elbow, Dax urged him back toward the inn. "Come on. Let's go back inside.. I promise to be good for the rest of the night, alright?"

Sayael nodded slowly, trying to offer the other a small smile in return, though the end result was rather weak, to say nothing else. The prince did not at all feel deserving of Dax's kindness -- in fact, it only made him feel a twinge of guilt. He winced slightly at that feeling, being rather unacustomed to regretting anything he had ever done. Then again, the things he had done before had all only been himself -- or, at the very least, the people he had used had been, if not faceless and nameless, at the very least not people he had come to befriend. But he felt bad now -- for dragging Dax here away from a loving and kind family, even if they were rather... over protective. They were at least a real family. But it wasn't just that. He shrank away from the thoughts of his real reasons for remorse, shoving them to one side so that he might not have to think of them just yet.

He followed after the other meekly, prompted by the small tug at his sleeve. He usually would never have allowd someone to drag him along -- he would either go enthusiastically or not at all. At the other's last words, however, a small grin cracked over his lips. Dax truly was a sheltered child, or he wouldn't have said something lips that. But Sayael didn't tell him and simply nodded in reply, bright eyes moving over the other's face for a moment before they returned to their desired path.

Dax continued to prompt Sayael with the occasional smile, but he refrained from really pulling on his arm. He worked more as a guide inside the inn, but he was glad the other prince was following. Sayael, from what the Ice Prince believed, was depressed and angry. Probably not only at himself, but most expecially those vile men who violated his mother. Dax tried to look on the brighter side of things, though. Without that occurence, Sayael wouldn't have been here with him this very day.

As if settling some internal disagreement with himself, Dax turned to face the other once they came to the rooms. "Alright. Which one's ours?" he asked, looking from door to door, knowing Faryn and Jillian to be behind one of them themselves. "The faster we get there, the faster I can give you this surprise I've got for you."

Sayael followed without hesitation, beginning to feel rather better now that he had a purpose, even if that 'purpose' was no more than walking to the inn. He glanced between the to doors and then gestured to the one on the right. "This one..." He reach one slightly tanned hand down into his back pocket and drew out the key, fiddling with the lock for some few moments before they heard the distinct click of an opening door.

One of his eyebrows quirked slightly at the mention of a 'surprise.' What, prey tell, might that be? Dax hadn't mentioned it before, and Sayael was quite curious, though for the moment he refrained from asking.

Once inside, he shut the door behind Dax, glancing around the rather humble settings (at least, compared to what a prince would be used to) before his questing emerald hues found Dax's, one brow quirked in silent question.

Upon entering the room, Dax's nose scrunched in distatse at the sight. It definitely wasn't anything compared to his own quarters, but then again, he told himself... he shouldn't be expecting anything better any time soon. At least they weren't sleeping outside in the dirt. Or better yet, under the water's surface from which they all so narrowly escaped. He would just have to turn that dignified, noble nose of his back down and accept what he had this time. After all, he promised to be good the rest of the night. That would include complaining.

Feeling those curious eyes on his back, Dax didn't turn to face Sayael. Instead, he opened one side of the large coat he was given by his rescuers and reached into one of the deep inner pockets. His movements indicated he pulled something out, but he waited to turn around. "Now, Sayael," he said. "I expect you to be extra nice to me for this."

When he turned around, in his outstretched hands he held what looked to be an unwrapped pastry. But not just any pastry. It was covered in that sweet honey that he knew Sayael loved so much, topped with various fruits. "It may have got a little smushed in the coat, but it should still be good."

Sayael knew Dax wasn't exactly... happy with the current accomadations -- he would have to find some way to aquire better ones soon enough. It was fortunate that the people had accepted their foreign currency without question and with (at least he thought) absolute fairness. It was gold, after all, and should be acceptable anywhere, but that might not always be the case.

And yet... Dax was acting strange. Sayael knew the teens well enough to suspect that something was up with that overly bouyant air of his seemed to sink. And what was with that suspensful feeling that seemed to be incresing as the teen rummaged through his pocket? However, the moment Sayael's emerald hues laid eye upon the treat, all suspicions of odd behavior were both shoved aside and forgotten. He reached his hands out immidiately to accept it, the grin on his lips showing rather more of his usual self.

A small laugh had begun at some point, and it had grown. What had he been suspecting? Well, no, he really didn't want to get into that.... He was a teenage boy, after all, and Dax had said it needed to be given in the room. He shook his head slowly, that same grin in place on his lips.

"Thanks, Dax," he murmured slowly, breaking off a piece with his fingers and placing it in his mouth. It was delicious. The honey of this strange nation was... different, it was true -- but delicious all the same. "Thanks..." he repeated, carefully licking some of the honey residue off his fingers (rather pointlessly) before he once more attacked the sweet.

Of course, the seemingly ever-innocent Dax didn't pick up on what Sayael had been expecting in place of the dessert. Though he did find the sudden laughter rather odd, but that was something easily brushed off his mind. The point was that Sayael appeared to be currently over that previous depression.

Shrugging off that over-sized coat, Dax drapped it over the back of a nearby chair. "Don't mention it," he said, sauntering toward the other. "But it's the men who picked me up who should be receiving the thanks. They tried to give that to me after they fed me, but I asked them to wrap it up for me instead. Right when I saw it, I thought of you, and knew you'd appreciate it much more than me." Even after saying this, Dax broke off a small piece of the pastry, almost half-expecting Sayael to bite at his hand; So protective he was of his sweets!

Placing it in his mouth, he voiced his own appreciation with an 'Mmm'. Though he wasn't big on sweets, this was still rather delicious. "No wonder you're so crazy about these things," he said, moving to sit on the bed.
