Eurydice placed a hand upon her chest, a tad startled yet genuinely appreciative of the formal gesture. Jessie Hawk... Where has she heard that name before? There was a slight shift in her expression before she reverted to her usual warm smile.

"Ah yes, the combat instructor. I've heard great things about you, you know..." she said, glancing momentarily at Coline, who had instantly stiffened upon the indication. The Priestess let out a soft giggle before taking the drow's hand into both of hers. "It's nice to finally meet you, Captain."

"And please, intrude all you'd like! Guests are always welcome into our humble home." she reassured, releasing his hand after a small squeeze. Clasping her hands together, she breathed out a soft sigh. "Now, I'm sure there is plenty to discuss, but we'll have to do something about your robes. Coline, dear?" she closed her eyes solemnly. "There should be something that fits him in my quarters. You know where to look."

"Priestess..." Coline whispered, brow furrowed in concern. She decided to wait a while to see if she would take her words back, but she didn't. Was she seriously going to let him wear that? As much as the thought baffled her, she chose not to argue. She didn't have any right to question her. "...I understand."

The woman affirmed her response with a curt nod, lids fluttering open. "Then please escort our honored guest upstairs while I prepare us some tea. I hope that will be alright with you, Captain?" she inquired warmly, emerald green eyes meeting his single red one. Before he could answer, however, a thought caused for her expression to shift into one of concern. "Also, I'm at a loss at what to do with your... friend. Will she be alright staying outside?"

Jessie winced as a slight, not entirely pleasant shift in her expression gave way to her warm greeting. She knew. She knew who he was, and she didn't approve. But what else did she know?

He glanced at Coline when she did, expression twisting slightly with confusion... and a hint of betrayal. Just how much had she told the other woman? He hadn't expected Coline to be the type to spill her guts to a mother figure. Perhaps he'd misjudged her.

His gaze averted to the floor when the woman released him. However, it quickly snapped up again. "Oh, no. It's fine. I don't need any..."

Both women seemed to ignore him, however, and so he turned his face towards the inside of the room again. His heart was beating a little fast, and the light from the fixtures suddenly began to burn his eyes. His eye snapped down to the floor, and he blinked hard, trying to relax and clear some of the glare from his vision. Firelight didn't bother him, but the daylight streaming in and the bright, electric standing lamps were a different matter.

Luckily, her question gave him something else to to think about. "Oh," he replied "Excuse me... I'll take care of that."

He paced out to the covered veranda to issue instructions to the frog-beast. "Corie, please push the presents in through the door. Then go back to the cave and wait around half an hour before bringing another load."

"Sure thing, master," she replied, inflecting a little mockingly on the title. He was, however, the only person other than Cressa whose commands she obeyed. The beast bent down a little, black eyes fixed on him. "Are you sure you wouldn't like to come with me?" she asked in an undertone, voice lowered to a semi-unintelligible grumble.

Jessie looked at her, slightly defeated. Cressa seemed to have rubbed off on Corie quite a bit. She always seemed to know when something was bothering him.

"No... no," he replied, resigned. He might have felt like crawling back to his cabin, just as he'd done in town the week before, but he'd never give in to such silly self-conscious urges. "I'll be fine."

He then stepped back inside, smiling. "It's sorted. I'm terribly sorry for this, but we're going to have to leave these inside the door for now, before moving them up to Coline's room. I really do hope you can forgive the intrusion... I know we haven't given you an explanation as of yet..."

"...And believe me when I say that I love you."

The last thing she saw was a huge smile and wink from Gwarn.

Feline felt her stomach twist and unravel itself at the same time. She was floating in a void for what seemed like an eternity, but surely only lasted a second. When reality popped back around her it was almost overwhelming. The sounds, colors and smells all seemed to bombard her senses at once.

Crawling up from where she had sprawled on the floor she looked over the Meta, who used to this had landed in a much more dignified manner. “Not my favorite way to travel, but I bet it comes in handy!” She said light heartedly to Meta.

Brushing herself off she smiled and waved her goodbyes to Meta. Her studies had been put off for way too long today, but first things first, she needed to hide the stolen property before she went to the library. Nearing the temple’s front doors, lightning flashed though the windows catching her attention as thunder quickly followed.

Her hand on the door she paused before opening, caught in indecision brought upon by disgust at the thought of being drenched by the pouring rain that waited for her outside.

Maybe I can find somewhere around here to hide it. She began scanning the rafters for an inconspicuous place to temporarily hide it.

"well that's because I am forced to practice a lot. Or else I wouldn't be able to do half the magic I can do now. The body needs to be as fit as the mind if you want to be a great spell caster. What's the point of knowing the best spell if it destroys your body. If your up to it, maybe we can do some exercises together." He said looking down at her, noticing her face getting pinker. It took him a moment to realize her hands were in his. when her eyes once again met his, he snapped out of his daze.

"What...am I working on? Oh, actually I just finished all of my potions for this quota. and I was just about to open this arcane spell book before you came in. A friend asked me to translate the spell on page three hundred forty eight for him. He believes that it is a spell to make plants grow at quadruple the rate of normal plants. Herbalists and their shortcuts.....they never seem to end. It should prove to help make healing items though, and they ARE giving me a few items I need as well. so it all works out. Did....you have anything to do today?" He said hoping not to bore her, and change the subject to suit her better.

"There is no need for apologies." Eurydice answered promptly, bringing her hands together quickly to stress her urgency. "Hurry now, before you catch a cold! Coline!" The girl gave her a brief bow before turning to Jessie, smiling reassuringly as she took his hand in hers and led him towards and up the staircase. The Priestess' eyes sparked up at this. "Hmm... How curious..."

In contrast to the floor below it, the second floor was noticeably darker, with only two wall lights to illuminate the opposite sides of the hall. The bathroom was the first room they chanced upon being directly opposite of the staircase. The bedrooms sat at the far end of the hall opposite each other. Coline led the drow to the one towards the left--her room.

The door opened with a small creak. It was a small room and, much like the living room, the lack of furniture made it appear a lot more spacious than it really was. A single covered bed was set against the wall on the left; a short stack of clothes topped with a small pouch of gold sat at its foot. A wooden table--where a lamp stood rigidly--and a chair pushed against the wall opposite the door glared at them as they entered.

"Please wait here." Coline said, gesturing for him to step inside, not bothering to wait for a response as she quickly darted off to the bathroom to pluck out two fresh towels from the rack. Before heading back to her room, however, she made for the Priestess'.

Eurydice's room wasn't any bigger than hers but appeared more homey and well-maintained. A fresh welcoming scent greeted her as she entered and had she been barefoot she would have definitely appreciated the feel of the rug beneath her feet. A bed covered in various woven sheets was set against the wall on the right with a small antique lamp sitting atop a wooden end table directly beside it. The main attraction of the room was the rocking chair, beautifully-carved and varnished, set at the spacious left portion of the room. At its feet was a tall box housing balls of yarn in various colors.

As lovely and inviting all these things were, her intended was a neglected nigh noticeable chest set beside the dresser on the far left corner of the room. She approached it cautiously, kneeling in front of it in a sort of respect, before placing her hands firmly upon its sides. It opened with a dull click.

Sifting through the contents of the chest was... unsettling, to say the least. It surfaced memories of the war that she'd much rather forget. But then again, the Priestess herself was enough to serve as a constant reminder. Shaking the thoughts off Coline dug her hands into the chest; she remembered seeing him wear something similar before. It should be in here somewhere...

"Ahh, here it is..." she whispered, raising a dark-colored robe in front of her. It opened at the front with a sash holding it together. The matching pair of loose pants in a similar color wasn't too difficult to fish out soon after that. She rubbed the cloth in between her fingers; it didn't feel as nice as silk, but it was comfortable enough. Yes, this would do nicely.

Coline shut the chest close after giving it one solemn bow and paced hurriedly back towards her room, shooting right past the drow to yank the curtain close to that one single window. "I hope I didn't make you wait too long." she said, propping the clothes and one of the towels onto the bed, the other in her hand. She walked over in front of him, slung the towel over his head, and began tousling his hair. About a minute passed before she spoke again.

"...I'm very sorry about all this. It must be very uncomfortable for you." she whispered. "But I have to agree with the Priestess. You will need to get out of those clothes; you're soaked to the bone. I don't want you catching a cold." Lowering her hands, she smiled up at Jessie, her own damp hair adding to the small puddle on the floor. "It's only up until we get your clothes all nice and dry, don't worry. I know it's not what you're used to wearing, but I think you'll find those to be quite comfortable."

The recruit walked over to the door, closing it halfway. "I'll be right outside. Tell me once you're done changing." she said, shutting the door behind her.

So would you mind if I bared my soul?

Jessie complied with her request in silence, taking a few moments to look around the room. Oh, dear. There was very little chance of being able to fit even HALF of the number of clothes he'd bought in here. This situation wasn't turning out at all as he'd planned. Or, rather, as he'd failed to plan.

He sighed, taking a few steps back to lean against the wall, leaving a snail-trail of water on the floor and a drow-shaped stain when he pulled away. He chewed the inside of his mouth, troubled by his thoughts. To think, he'd been willing to give her everything, just like that, only to be humiliated like this. It was a severe misjudgement on his part. Perhaps his time on Gaia had made him altogether too trusting. The judgement in the mature woman's eyes for only that short second sickened him. He should have left with Corie, shouldn't he? They didn't need him here - a dangerous alien encroaching on this place of peace. His offerings of love... they'd never been wanted, had they? Hed misjudged things from the very start.

Coline re-entered, and he felt himself burn with embarrassment at the sight of her. To think of how willingly he'd opened up to this woman... this little girl. He'd been such a fool.

He stiffened and took a step towards her from the wall, about to tell her that she needn't bother - that he was going home, and she could do with her gifts what she pleased. Burn them, for all he cared. However, he then immediately found himself with a towel over his head, hair being scrubbed and dried.

The Captain watched her as she worked - face blank, but torn by conflict inside. He remembered how she'd stiffened when the priestess looked at her - giving the game away. Why did she continue this charade? Why couldn't she tell him to his face how she felt? Did she have to go sneaking around telling everyone but him?

Then she smiled up at him, and he couldn't help but feel a little silly. Maybe he was blowing this out of proportion.

Then again, maybe not.

He was desperate to ask her more about the Priestess - to comment on how she seemed to dislike him, and how that single look had given her attitude right away. Before he knew it, however, she had backed out of the door again and he was left alone with his thoughts once more.

He sighed, shaking his head, and reached up to massage his temples for a few moments. Plucking up the clean towel from the bed, he rubbed his hair a little more, drying his face and the backs of his ears, before untying the hold of his overrobe with a single flick of his hand and allowing it to drop to the floor. He wouldn't want to make any of the sparse furniture wet, after all. The underrobe joined it with similar ease, and he was left in his trousers. The holsters which concealed daggers on his arms were now revealed; two on each arm, a large dagger with a release mechanism such as the one he'd used against Storm, and a smaller switch-like blade further up which required fishing out. The guns on his belt and Mergloth were also clearly visible, as was the extra short sword sheathed on the opposite side to the rapier. A single strap around his torso contained ammunition. Hidden by the trousers was a fifth dagger and a third gun - he was practically a walking armoury!

Removing his trousers, he picked up the clothes she'd provided and examined them with a sinking heart. The robe was no more than a short, wraparound tunic in a dark, navy blue - the trousers were similar to his own, but the combination didn't have nearly the material required to cover his weapons. And - to his horror - the tunic was short-sleeved.

He grimaced, and placed it back on the bed, thinking of asking Coline to try and fetch him something else. However, he didn't want to intrude upon her, even if it just meant peeping around the door - especially not in his undressed state. The situation was rapidly becoming ever the more embarrassing for him.

He set about toweling his body, having removed all of the weapon holsters and straps and placed them on the bed, trying to delay the inevitable. However, there's only so much toweling one can do before it becomes apparent that you are as dry as you can possibly be. With a defeated sigh, he slipped on the trousers and his shoes, finishing with the tunic-robe. He wrapped it as far around himself as it would go - ignoring the desired fashion statement of an open chest - before tying the sash tightly to hold it in place, scowling perpetually. He tried not to look at his well-muscled arms - perhaps, if he tried hard enough, he could forget they were bare at all.

Jessie stepped to the door. He supposed there were more pressing problems at hand - for example, the mountain of weapons piled on the bed in the house of a pacifist.

Opening the door, he peeked out. "Coline? I have a slight problem..."

He stepped back, opening the door fully; almost seeming to hide behind it himself.

"The weapons. I don't want to offend the priestess by leaving them here. Is... is there anywhere we could hide them, perhaps? Maybe, I don't know, throw them out the window for now?"

That last suggestion came with no hint of humour. He'd appalled the woman enough already, just by his mere existence. Stashing symbols of her hatred in her house, under her nose, would be an ultimate offense, he was sure.

Coline had been patiently waiting outside, anxiety slowly starting to creep in. She noted his discomfort during their conversation with the Priestess, though she wasn't entirely sure what might have caused it. Perhaps the living room was too bright? Well, the curtains in her room weren't as thick as the ones in his, but they did block sunlight somewhat. Hopefully her room was dark enough for him to be comfortable.

A creak from the door broke her away from her thoughts. She turned to Jessie, humming pleasantly as he called her attention. But what greeted her eyes could only make them widen in astonishment: a large heap of weapons now sat upon her bed. How he was able to hide all those within his robes was... baffling. Just when she was about to comment on how impressive a feat it was, however, a suggestion caused for her alarm.

"Throw them out the window?" she echoed in disbelief. "No no, it would be cruel of me to ask you of that. And it's not at all necessary, really. My room would be the perfect place to stow your weapons. The Priestess, she--" there was an abrupt pause, and a few moments passed before she could find the words again. "She doesn't like to come in here. She won't be able to see them, don't worry."

Coline smiled at him to further stress that he needn't be so anxious, fading slowly upon seeing the Captain's rather... withdrawn demeanor. Her brows curled up in concern. "Is something wrong?" she asked, taking a few wary steps closer to him. "Is it the clothes? They're not too small, are they? I can... try looking for something else, if that makes you feel better."

Jessie glanced up to meet her eyes, before looking back down again, jaw clenched.

"No, no. Everything's fine," he answered tersely, drawing himself up "Let's go back downstairs, shall we? The priestess may get worried about us soon."

The drow then moved to sweep dramatically from the room in just a couple of strides - but stopped, one hand on the jamb and one of the door. It was as if he'd intended to leave, but suddenly some part of him, acting of its own accord, had reached out to stop him. The hand holding the jamb released and went back to his temples as he scowled, utterly torn in two.

Her concern had been touching, certainly. But what did he really know of her intentions? It wouldn't be the first time that what was apparently a benign little mouse turned out to be the biggest rat of all. That said, he was being an absolute idiot, wasn't he? Why was he letting something so tiny and easily resolved bother him so much? Was he really so paranoid? "When you're right, paranoia is just good thinking." But was he right? Hardly. What reason did Coline have to lie to him? Unless she was taking advantage of his utter blindness up until that point. But she hadn't asked for anything. She didn't want any of the things he wanted to offer her. Or so she said. But no - she didn't want them, and she didn't want him, either.

The confusion raged on in such a vein. However, it had to stop soon. He needed to make a decision.

So, with a resigned sigh, he made it. It should have been apparent all along what his course of action would be. When all is said and done, Jessie is more than capable of consistently making the wise, honourable choice. In this case, that choice was not to storm from the room like a scorned teenager, but to remain in the room and speak to the woman he loved until this was sorted out.

"No," he whispered, slowly creaking the door shut "I'm sorry. This isn't right."

As he turned back to her, his shoulders were slumped, and his soft, feminine face was filled with hurt. Maybe it was a mistake to drop his guard so - to be so vulnerable with the person who could, it had become obvious, so easily destroy him. Then again, maybe it would be a mistake to be anything else.

"The priestess... doesn't like me, does she?" he said quietly, before averting his gaze. "I'm something she hates. Everything she hates. Did... did you tell her about us? About... what I did?" He looked back up at her, hopeful, but not expecting anything other than the worst.

It seemed that this conversation had the potential to touch on all the areas they'd been unsure of so far. That was good. They needed to talk, didn't they? Maybe two such secretive people had the potential to forge the strongest bond of all... if they could learn to communicate openly.

"Jessie..." she whispered, her expression mirroring his. So this was what it was all about? She hadn't been aware that the Priestess' approval weighed down on him this much. It was endearing, and yet at the same time heartbreaking. Coline took some time to collect her thoughts before she began to speak, her eyes locking with his the moment she did.

"I haven't told a soul." she began with a stern tone, but this started to fade as she went on. "I don't think it will come as any surprise when I say this, but... you're the only person I can really talk to while I'm here. Maybe I'm just not destined to get along with humans." there was a hint of jesting in her tone, just a tad. "I sure hit it off with a drow though, didn't I?"

Her gaze cast downward. "Priestess Eurydice is a very kind and understanding woman. She won't judge you by what you are or what you do. And, as far as I can see, you haven't really given her any reason to hate you. I, on the other hand..." The recruit closed her eyes in thought for a brief moment, a week's worth of images flashing through her mind.

Unforgivable.

Coline sighed, meeting the drow's gaze with a faint smile as she reached out a gentle yet calloused hand to touch his shoulder. "You don't have to worry so much. I'm sure everything will turn out fine." With that her hand slid away, leaving an invisible trail upon his bare arm, and she strode to pick up the neglected sodden robes on the floor.

Do I control the blades in my hands?

"Only if you believe will stay in it," he said, looking up into her face, beaming. the glow in his eyes was different.. it wasn't the taint shining through, bu then, what else could it be?
"What is your will, Mistress?"

Or do they control me?

Those few hard-spoken words were all he needed to hear for the dark cloud clinging to his mind to dissipate. Its passing seemed to lift the weight of ten men off his shoulders, and he couldn't quite contain his pleasure - smiling despite the rather grim tone of his... his Coline. In fact, their reactions were quite the reverse to each other. While she began low and grew, he was elated, but his expression seemed to falter and grow more serious as she spoke.

Jessie waited for her to finish, her reassurances so reassuring that he didn't even tense up when she brushed her fingers against the bare flesh of his upper arm. It was better that way, anyway. He didn't need her thinking that she made him uncomfortable. It was absolutely nothing to do with her, but she was bound to wonder, and the only answers he could give were definitely best saved for later.

He followed her a few steps as she moved away, voicing his own thoughts as she retrieved the wet garments. "I don't believe I was destined to get along with my kind, either. I had a friend, and my sisters and brothers... but no drow woman has ever made me feel the way I do for you."

He bowed his head slightly. "I apologise if that is too forward. However, our connection is undeniable," he paused "I do not wish to deny it."

"I pity people like Cressa, Coline. The ones who've walked through your life and not seen how special you are - how incredibly precious. I pity them. You are a gem like no other, and I consider myself so lucky to have been the one to find you."

His lips quirked up and he glanced away, hand going up to the back of his neck. The seriousness in his tone dissolved. "I do make a lot of corny speeches, don't I? Are you tired of it yet?"

"For once, male," she purred, bending down towards him. Her hair fell like a shining waterfall around their faces as she nibbled and bit his bottom lip... a little harder than was necessary. "I ask that you simply lie back and enjoy the ride."

And enjoy the ride he did.

Feline Godess

Tipsy Shapeshifter

PostPosted: Sun Jan 17, 2010 5:17 pm

After scanning the rafters for awhile Feline gave it up as a lost cause. There really wasn't anywhere she could hide the amethyst that it wouldn't come to Panda's attention.

With a resigned sigh she pushed the temple door open and stepped out into the rain. A huge rain drop splatter on her head signaling the start of a very wet long walk back to her tent.

I vow to never be without a cloak again, Feline swore in between various curses damning all raindrops to hell as they slid icily down her back. She had given up avoiding the puddles long ago after falling into and consequently being soaked by the first one she had tried to jump over.

Water dripping off of her hair into her eyes, she wearily pushed her tent door open and was about to collapse into her bed when the sound of the rain pounding brought her back to her senses. The last thing she wanted to do was soak her bedding too. That would make for a long uncomfortable night and Feline was too practical to want to deal with that.

She made her way back out into the rain and found the tree she’s been hiding the amethyst in. The weather was too much for her to fly in, but her climbing skill that she had gained as a fledgling had never left her. She scrambled up and secured the gem in it’s hiding place.

Feline could see the tumultuous ocean from her vantage point. It seemed to mirror the feelings inside her. I’m already drenched, I might as well go to the beach and watch the waves pound in. Feline climbed down and after a short walk was huddled under a tree looking out meditatively at the frothy waves.

As they came in they tore up the sand from the bottom, turning the wave a murky brown color. As the waves retreated they left the sand strewn about, creating new patterns and groupings that weren’t there before. Feline felt like that sand. She’d loved her life before she was brought here. Full of pomp and ceremony, but she had played a huge part in the society's well being and had been proud of that.

Here was another story. Few knew her, and of those that did, none truly knew all that she had lost when she came here. This place had one glorious thing her homeland could not give her though.

Freedom, the word rang in her head. Freedom was a magical almost intoxicating thing this world offered her and she was reveling in it.

The sand does not mind where it is taken and how it ends up, maybe I should be more like it. An image of Gwarn’s smile and wink came back to her and she blushed with pleasure. Maybe I have more here than I thought. She smiled to herself and scanned the beach again.

A lump caught her eye. It looked to be a pile of furs and clothing twisted up and left on the shore. It may be nothing, but with as bad as the weather has been I’d better see what it is. She steeled herself to brave the rain again and went to check it out.

As she neared the pile a low moan came from it, followed by coughing and a slight bit of retching as water spewed from it. Feline bent over and gently prodded it till it unfolded into a body. It was a male feline. I’ve been the only one here for so long, and now felines appear to be raining in from all sides!

Her thoughts then turned to something Meta had mentioned earlier. “You must be the one Meta was looking for.” She said gently to the half unconscious man. Feline knelt down and prepared to pick him up. “I will not hurt you.” she assured him, “I’m taking you to those who will help you.”

She only made it to her tent before the man became too heavy to carry. She was just to small and lightweight for such manual labor. She ducked in to the tent and grabbed one of her older robes and rolled the man onto it. With him settled into place she began the long muddy and very wet journey of dragging the man back to the Temple of the Order.

~~~~~~~~
When Feline reached the order she was lucky that there were a few people in the entry way and was able to enlist some of them to carry the man to be helped by the healers. Feline grabbed one acolyte before she could scurry off with the rest.
“Could you please bring word to Meta. Tell her that a feline man was brought back in to be healed today and that I think that it may be the one she spoke of earlier.” she made the girl repeat it back to her before she’d let her leave to deliver the message.
With her duty to the man done, the last thing Feline wanted to do was walk back though that storm, especially as dirty as she was.
A warm hot bath would be nice right about now, She thought fondly and made good on it by heading to the Order's bathhouse. She quickly doffed her stinky muddy robes and took a short shower to remove the dirt. Once she was sure that all the mud was gone she found a nice hot mineral bath and slid into it with a hefty sigh.
((god...sorry that I take forever to post Inu, but I've been out of town since thursday...I hereby allow you to slightly godmod Xeiashi until he is self-reliant again))
If a diety created all that is...
"Ya know...I think I'm more then fine Evelyn" Xeiashi said after a moment's thought. Brushing aside her hand, he rolled to the floor, moaned in pain, got up, and blurted, "After all, whats a little physical disability in the face of knowledge?"
Despite the pain and the likely forthcoming 'You shouldn't be moving'-s, he began stumbling towards the door. Only a slight chuckle alerted him that something was wrong...he wasn't fully clothed.
"err...woops...I guess clothes would beat knowledge, no?" he said, embarrassed, as he put on a nearby B.O.O. robe and threw the sheet on as an overcape. Those on, he noticed his bruised and sullied boots and monocle on the nightstand. A quick spell, learned from an old tome back in Barton, removed the dings and nicks from both.
His gait more natural already, Xeiashi strode to the door before realising he still didn't know where anything is. "Umm...mind showing me around? I don't remember much from my delusional wanderings" he asked of the one who saved his life, who very well might be his first true friend.
[minor repairation]
...wouldn't all writers be dieties of their own worlds?
The table that had been pushed against the wall had now been turned to accommodate another chair at the opposite side. A steaming pot of tea sat in the middle of it, a small container filled with honey right beside it. Cups and their respective saucers were set in front of each seat.
Yes, the Priestess went about to work in the kitchen despite whatever objections the Captain might have had. But why settle with tea when she could conjure something much more filling? The children must have been hungry by now, and she wouldn't be able to forgive herself if either of them caught a cold on her watch. An unusual fragrance filled the air of the homey little shack; whether it was pleasant or absolutely dreadful, was there even a way to tell?
Coline lifted the sodden robes up into her arms with a small grunt. They were a lot heavier than she expected them to be. It was nothing compared to carrying an unconscious man over her shoulders, although given the chance she would surely be able to carry a much heavier load. Hours upon hours of constant training did have its perks.
A light shade of red rose up her cheeks as he began to speak. There was never a time when his compliments failed to make her flustered. His words struck to her core so much she could barely remember him ever giving mention about his siblings. Barely. Before she could comment on it, however, he went on.
The blush on her cheeks could only deepen in color as she turned to him. But unlike before she was far from stunned; her face practically glistened in the dim-lit room, beaming with affection. "No, not at all. Though sometimes I wonder how you can manage to say the most embarrassing things with such a straight face." she giggled, but composed herself not so long after. "It's... rather refreshing."
She held his gaze, as if searching for something in his single red eye, and an urge uncommon to her slowly began to surface: she wanted to hold him. And she would have if not for the robes in her arms. Coline sighed inwardly, contenting herself with simply lowering her head for a bow, though that did nothing to lessen the sincerity of her words. "...Thank you, Jessie. For keeping me."
