*After doing some more physical exercises I face the trees and decide to work on the Lightning Cannon.* "OK, time to nail this." *I widen my stance and aim my palm. I draw the chakra to my arm and ....... my mind starts to wander. I fire the cannon but it explodes in my face. I am flung 20 feet into the air, my arm looks like someone took a knife to it, and half my shirt is shredded into pieces. I fall into a lake and nearly black out, put I am able to swim up and float on the lake surface......*
*After a while of floating, thinking, and steadily bleeding I decide on a plan of action. I swim sloppily to the shore of the lake, wrap what's left of my shirt around my arm, and head of to Neko's.*

Zann wind flickered into the training grounds, and drew his katana, Kisokutenshu. He put his chakra in, and it instantly transformed into a deadly blade with spikes protruding from its sides.  Zann frowned and concentrated as he put his wind chakra into the weapon. Instantly razor sharp chakra could be seen running through the weapon, and Zann swung it at a large boulder 30m away. Kisokutenshu extended and cut the boulder in half without much problem, and without resting Zann swung it back in the same direction. He kept on doing this until the boulder was cut into tiny pieces. Zann then retracted Kisokutenshu and gathered chakra at its tip. He swung it downwards at a tree, and a blade of wind 10 feet wide shot vertically at a tree so fast that it was almost unable to be seen, and instantly the tree was cut neatly in half vertically. He then swung his blade around rapidly above his head, still keeping the wind chakra running through it. A tornado slowly formed around Zann, while wind blades shot out of it in all directions. After about 20 seconds, Zann released the tornado and fell on his hands and knees because of the chakra needed to control such a large weapon.

2 hours later...
Zann got up from his rest, and opened up the Katon scroll again. He read the Academy and genin jutsus, and remembered that he hadn't actually learnt all of them before he learnt Chuunin jutsus. He frowned as he thought maybe learning the basics again would improve the power of jutsus of higher ranks, as mastering the basics is the most important. He read the very first jutsu in the scroll,
Katon: Ichi (Fire Release: One)
Description: The basic building block of a great many techniques down the line, this is presumably the very same skill that began the study of Katons. Molding their chakra through a simple seal of any choice, the user is able to focus it onto the tip of their index finger in the form of heat. With this, they can cut through things such as glass and rope with some difficulty. However, at this stage, control of one’s chakra is so minimal that this technique can only be used by one finger and essentially has no combat use.
This shouldn't be difficult since I know most of the Chuunin Katon jutsus already. Zann formed the handseals,
"Katon: Ichi (Fire Release: One)"
A glob of molten chakra gathered on his index finger which lasted for 5 seconds.

"Katon: Ichi (Fire Release: One)"
The glob of chakra grew slightly bigger and covered his index finger, but it only lasted for 7 seconds.

The molten chakra on his index finger held for more than 20 seconds before disappearing.

Zann formed the necessary handseals again,

The red chakra on his index finger lasted for more than 30 seconds and didn't disappear.

That was easy. Zann turned to the Katon scroll and looked at the next jutsu,
Katon: Shoumeidan no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flare Technique)
Description: By molding chakra into ones lungs properly, they are able to exhale a short burst of heat and flame which basically explodes from the mouth. The fire itself actually only lasts for about a second. But its effect is that it illuminates dark places, if only for but a few seconds.
A jutsu that's not offensive or defensive...ok. Zann formed the handseals,
"Katon: Shoumeidan no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flare Technique)"
A small flame burst from his mouth, but didn't do anything else.

"Katon: Shoumeidan no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flare Technique)"
A slightly larger flame burst from his mouth, but from the looks of it, it won't light up dark places at all.

A larger flame burst from his mouth and was brighter than before, and could light up a dark places dimly.

A large and very bright flame burst from his mouth for a second, and it would light upu dark places without any trouble.

I should try and master the basic Katon jutsus today. Zann read the next Academy level jutsu,
Katon: Shuriken no Jutsu (Fire Release: Shuriken Technique)
Description: A relatively basic katon, this one uses chakra to coat a metal shuriken or a kunai with fire. It is done so that the user first throws the shuriken, then exhales from his or her mouth a small flame that ignites the chakra-coated projectile. If the attack succeeds, not only will your opponent be hurt by the shuriken or kunai, but he will also suffer from burns.
Note: Only one projectile at a time.
So a bit like the Housenka no Jutsu. Zann formed the handseals,
"Katon: Shuriken no Jutsu (Fire Release: Shuriken Technique) "
A small flame burst from his mouth but didn't light up the kunai he threw.

"Katon: Shuriken no Jutsu (Fire Release: Shuriken Technique) "
He threw a kunai into the air as he beathed out a short burst of flame. The flame licked at the kunai, and it lit up for 5 seconds.

The flame lit up th kunai for 10 seconds before going out.

The flame from his mouth lit up the kunai without any problem, and it was still burning when it hit a tree, charring the trunk.

Zann didn't feel tired yet so he decided to continue with his training. He turned to the next jutsu on the scroll,
Katon: Fukumen no Jutsu (Fire Release: Veil Technique)
Description: A stall technique which really only helps genins in this stage of learning accustom themselves to the less subtle methods of Katons. Performing the necessary seals, the user claps their hand in front of them and a hot white flash erupts from their hands that blind people in the closest vicinities. With this opening, the user is able to make a hasty escape or even move in for a killing blow. The severity of the flash, however, lasts only a moment and causes only spots to appear until an opponent’s sight becomes clear again.
Wow, so it's another distraction jutsu. Ok... Zann concentrated as he formed the handseals,
"Katon: Fukumen no Jutsu (Fire Release: Veil Technique)"
He clapped his hands together as he finished the handseals, and a weak flash erupted from his palms.

He knew it should be stronger, a lot stronger, so he formed the handseals again,
"Katon: Fukumen no Jutsu (Fire Release: Veil Technique)"
The flash of light this time was slightly larger and brighter than the previous one, but still won't have a large effect on the enemy.

The flash this time was white, but was still quite small. At least I got the colour right.

A hot white flash burst from his palms as he clapped them together. It would work as a distraction for blinding the enemy in actual combat.

Kiyoshi appeared in the training ground and kept practicing. "Katon: Bounetsu no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flame-Resistance Technique)" He made seals, but nothing happened

"Katon: Bounetsu no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flame-Resistance Technique)" He made the seals again, and his body heated up a bit, but then went out.

"Katon: Bounetsu no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flame-Resistance Technique)" he made the seals a third time. This time his body had a faint glow, but then stopped.

"Katon: Bounetsu no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flame-Resistance Technique)" He made the seals a final time and his body had a cover of chakra and stayed that way.

Zann was determined to master all the Academy level jutsus today, so without taking a break he pressed on to the next jutsu.
Katon: Tanebi no Jutsu (Fire Release: Cinder Technique)
Description: Basic to all Katon users is the ability to set thing things on fire, obviously. This technique allows a person to snap their fingers and ignite a spark anywhere they so wish. A simple cinder and no more, this jutsu is used mostly in pranks and the like.
Zann looked off handed when he read the description. He thought that the jutsu should be quite easy, and he formed the handseals,
"Katon: Tanebi no Jutsu (Fire Release: Cinder Technique) "
He took a piece of paper from his hip pouch and tried to set it on fire. The corner of the paper lit up, but the flame quickly died.

He formed the handseals again,
"Katon: Tanebi no Jutsu (Fire Release: Cinder Technique) "
He was careful to snap his fingers clearly this time, and about a quarter of the paper burnt away.

He made the same set of handseals,

He took a new piece of paper and snapped his fingers, and more than half of the piece of paper burnt away into ashes.

Zann took out another piece of parchment and made the handseals,
"Katon: Tanebi no Jutsu (Fire Release: Cinder Technique) "
The whole piece of paper lit up into flames and the flame burnt without going out. Zann took a pen and made a marker next to the jutsu in the scroll, meaning that he has learnt it.

Zann nodded a greeting to Kiyoshi, seeing that he too was busy with his own training. He read the next jutsu,
Katon: Houka Hira no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flaming Palm Technique)
Description: A more advanced version of the Katon: Tanebi no Jutsu, this jutsu allows the user to hold the make spark in their hand. They then amplify it with their chakra until it is a small flame. By mimicking the gentle fist style, the push the flame into their opponent, causing clothes to light, or minor burns on the body.
So it's similar to the previous jutsu...this shouldn't be hard then. Zann formed the handseals,
"Katon: Houka Hira no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flaming Palm Technique)"
A small spark jumped in his hand, but other than that nothing happened.

"Katon: Houka Hira no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flaming Palm Technique)"
The small spark lit up into a small flame which held for about 5 seconds.

The small spark in his hand flared up into a small flame, which held for about 10 seconds before disappearing,

Kiyoshi waved at Zann and continued his training. He then pulled out his sword and made a few seals. "Katon: Hi Shinten no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flame Spread Technique)" His sword warmed up a little, then cooled down.

Zann looked at the next jutsu in the list,
Katon: Ni (Fire Release: Two)
Description: This technique makes it so that after a user has molded enough chakra to gather heat into their finger they can now distribute it to both the index and middle finger (one hand), making it a somewhat viable option in combat now. However, jabs and strikes made through this method would simply burn through clothing and wouldn’t cause any substantial thereafter. In terms of raw searing strength, though, it allows the user to cut through even metallic string now.
So similar to the Katon: Ichi. Zann made the handseals,
"Katon: Ni (Fire Release: Two)"
A small glob of chakra appeared on his index finger.

Zann walked back to the training grounds. Finding it empty, he put down his bag and took out his Katon scroll, and read the next Genin jutsu that he needed to master,
Katon: Hoteri Ougigata no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flash Fan Technique)
Description: A fairly simple jutsu, the user breaths in a fair amount of air while performing the necessary handseals and breaths it out in a short funnel of flame. Literally lasting only a few seconds, it explodes out of the mouth in a v-like wave and is a commonly used technique amongst shinobi who like to build into their attacks. The range of this flame, however, is about 3m and the flame itself isn’t held long enough to deal any real damage. Therefore, it isn’t necessarily a viable offensive option as compared to other jutsus, but it does serve its purposes since only three handseals are needed to perform this technique.
Katon jutsus have a lot of distractive jutsus. Zann formed the handseals,
"Katon: Hoteri Ougigata no Jutsu (Fire Release: Flash Fan Technique)"
A small ball of flame burst from his mouth, and disappeared right after that.

Without taking a break, Zann continued to the next jutsu,
Katon: Yojin Bunshin no Jutsu (Fire Release: Ember Clone Technique)
Description: A basic bunshin wherein the user will call forth through in corporeal form a clone of themselves, crafted from flame. At this level, the clone is quite weak and can only really serve as a distracted more so than a viable combat replacement. However, it does have its uses, which alongside detonating upon destruction or on command, are numerous.
Note: The clone only has 1/10 the ability of the original user.
This shouldn't be hard since I know Kaze Bunshin no Jutsu (Wind clone) already. Zann formed the handseals,
"Katon: Yojin Bunshin no Jutsu (Fire Release: Ember Clone Technique)"
A swirl of flame appeared next to Zann, but disappeared after only a second.

A body of flame formed next to him, but it barely took the shape of a human body before it disappeared.

The body of flame took the shape of a human body and disappeared after 10 seconds.

The flame took the shape of Zann's body, and also had faint traces of his colour, and it disappeared after he held it for more than 1 minute.

The flames took his shape and colours perfectly, creating a clone of hinself. He could hold it for more than 5 minutes without any trouble, and the clone could attack and move as it pleased.
