Now he was finally feeling a bit better. His muscles were getting more used to the exertion that he was putting upon them, and they weren't exactly cramping up yet. This was very important, because it meant that he probably had a better chance of doing a lot more before he needed to stop for a bit. Soon, he would managed to get into the right kind of shape to be of some use to the village... even if the village clearly wasn't in a place that needed those kinds of people. They needed obedient people, not strong people. Perhaps once Tai Wei was strong, he would be able to show just how powerful a tool he could be for them. For now, he needed to keep working hard to get there.

9+1 = 10. Failure.
As it turned out, his previous feelings of success wouldn't last. In fact, Tai Wei felt weaker now, something that he really detested. Weakness was something to be viewed with disdain at best, and outright hostility and hatred at worst. He needed to get past this weakness and get to a point where he was strong enough to do this without any problems. Then he could increase the weights or something to make it harder. But before he did that, Tai Wei needed to work as hard as he could to make it to that place. His body was rapidly getting tired, and he hadn't even gotten halfway to where he wanted to for this particular training session.

Nat 20. Two successes!
Now he was cooking with gas. Of course, he was probably just deluding himself by thinking that he was doing better than he was. He felt alright, but he didn't exactly feel like he was doing better. He needed to work harder, and every time he did a pushup he told himself that he needed to work even harder. He couldn't afford to slack off or get cocky just because he did something right. He was living in a life or death world, so he always needed to be prepared to work that much harder to get what he wanted out of life. As such, he kept doing pushups and mentally telling himself that he needed to work even harder each time he did so.

Previous Nat 20 Success.
Again Tai Wei felt like he was starting to get better at this particular training. Obviously this was a good thing because he really needed to start getting into the swing of things as a ninja. He couldn't be squishy or weak or a failure when it came to fighting for his life. His body was a weapon for the village hidden in the sound, and he needed to make sure that by doing training sessions like this that he was honing it to the best possible thing it could be. He continued to do push ups, forcing himself to not think about any physical or mental exhaustion that might have been occurring. Such things had no place here in the mind of a ninja.

4+1 = 5. Failure.
There was nothing like the feeling of being a complete and utter failure as a ninja. He had come here to work hard, and the constant tired feeling that was nagging at Tai Wei was beginning to make this annoying. He needed to work harder so that he could get stronger, and since he was trying to get stronger, he couldn't afford not to work himself as hard as he could. If he went easy on himself, he would never managed to get to the point that he needed to in order to fulfill the expectations of the Oto ninja government. Clearly they thought he had some form of potential, but Tai Wei's own drive would be the only thing to keep him moving.

For now, Tai Wei allowed himself to have a little bit of confidence. Of course, he made sure to hold it back in his mind so that he didn't start making more mistakes, but based on the problems that he'd already been having, any minor success was still as success. He needed to somehow get his strength up, so he adjusted his breathing so that it was more even and paced. He couldn't let his body take too much or too little air in. For now he just attempted to continue doing pushups and continue increasing his strength. His muscles needed to get used to hard work and long hours or training, because this was the first of many training sessions.

3+1 = 4. Failure.
Today was just not Tai Wei's day it seemed. Again he felt weak, and again he found himself failing to meet his own expectation. He collapsed on the ground in a heap, trying to control his breathing and trying to get himself into some kind of semi-relaxed state so that he could work harder and get himself back into the swing of things. After a minute or so of rest, Tai Wei tried to go back and try doing more push ups. He needed to waste as little time as possible because he had a lot more training to do once this was over. He was missing the first day of academy training, and he wasn't going to waste any time. When he did go tomorrow, he'd be ready.

12+1 = 13. Success!
For once, Tai Wei was feeling like he getting on some kind of roll. It wasn't an easy one, or a concrete one, but he was making progress and that was what was most important. For now, he just needed to do as much as he could. He figured he was about halfway to the point where he wanted to be before moving on. Maybe he would do weapons training next or something. For now, he just needed to increase his physical strength so he wasn't so weak. He didn't have time to waste on thinking like that. He either had to do it until he succeeded, or until his own heart gave out. And really, he would rather die than admit that he was unable to do something.

Nat 20. Two successes!
It was at this point that Tai Wei really felt like he was getting somewhere. Finally his body was acclimating to all the work it was having to do, which would mean that it would hopefully become easier. He didn't know if he was actually doing things right, but it was the only way he knew to get stronger. He just regretted that he hadn't done it earlier in life, back when he was always in danger of pain. Now, he was just in danger of dying, and that was far less intimidating for him. But knowing this, he was more than happy to keep moving forward. He could exploit his own weaknesses for more personal gain, since getting better at what you were bad at meant you were prepared for more trials overall.

Previous Nat 20 Success.
Tai Wei could feel that he was getting closer to his current short-term goal with every push up he did. He had really hit his stride after all the problems earlier, and he was really feeling like he was going to be finished before long. At the same time, Tai Wei hoped that his own body didn't give out on him as it was wont to do. It had a hard history of failing him in the worst possible times, so perhaps he would do better before long. Now however, he worked as hard as he could for as long as he could to get the most out of each training session. He would have to make sure that he kept this up when he trained everything else today and in the days coming up.

So close and yet so far; that was what Tai Wei was starting to think this training session was starting to embody. It was driving him nuts here, the fact that he kept failing to complete things in a timely manner. Instead, he was only managing to tire himself out and cause himself more pain. Not that pain was a bad thing, being able to endure pain would probably give him an edge later in life. But the fact that he couldn't endure that much before having issues in this training session was fundamentally disturbing to Tai Wei. He needed to work harder. He had a lot more to do and not much time to do it and he couldn't sit back and take time to relax now.

This time Tai Wei was barely able to continue, but somehow he managed to keep himself going. It was rather annoying to say the least, but you have to keep going if you wanted to improve. Tai Wei wasn't exactly sure how much of a benefit he was getting from this training session, but he was already feeling a bit better, even if he was getting rather tired. He had lots of things to do, but he was almost done. He just had to get through a few more, and then he would move on to something a bit different so he could get a more well-rounded training. He couldn't expect to keep training strength if he was tired out from this training session. It wouldn't do him any good then.

Yet again Tai Wei managed to achieve some measure of success, and he was glad that he was so close to achieving his set goal. Soon enough, if he didn't suddenly get weak, he would managed to be done with this. He was in the final stretch and close to being completely done with this training session. For now thought he needed to focus on the task at hand, because he was already rather tired out from all that he'd done thus far. His plan was to have been done already, but now he just tried to control his breathing and prevent himself from getting tired prematurely. When you were this close to success, you couldn't afford to make mistakes and jeopardize everything.

This was what Tai Wei was most afraid of, his premature failures right before he would be able to consider the entire training session a success. He hated being so close and then not being able to succeed. He tried to relax his muscles as they began to cramp, and tried to get himself to a point where he could be considered able to continue. It took a few minutes, but eventually he was able to go back to working on doing the required push-ups. Tai Wei couldn't remember the last time he worked out like this; it must have been years. Then again, perhaps he never actually had; he was certainly having enough problems for that.

Tai Wei had finally finished the training session that he had set out for himself. Of course at this point he collapsed onto the ground and tried to catch his breath. His muscles ached, and Tai Wei knew that it would be a little bit before he was able to get up and get back to work on things. There was so much that he needed to do, and so little time to do it. Instead of being able to work hard, he was going to have to work long. He couldn't do short, quick bursts, so he was going to have to do long extended sessions that were harder overall, but would also give him what he needed to be successful in his ninja related tasks.
