"Finished not too long after Ren," replied Gennosuke grabbing his right shoulder with his left hand a massaging it lightly. When Andou said outside Gennosuke figured they would probably be doing taijutsu or weapon training. Either way it was something new that they needed to be taught.

He followed Ren outside appearing only a few seconds after her. He saw her get into position for what looked like a dance. Hmmm he thought to himself placing both hands into his coat pockets.

Andou nodded as Ren and Gennosuke updated him on their progress. "Make sure you do that," he instructed them and followed them outside. Incidentally the training fields of the academy happened to be right outside the window of the gym - Andou had deliberately chosen this lesson so he could keep an eye on all three students. As he moved he stopped at a side cabinet along the way and grabbed a key dangling from a keychain in his pocket. Unlocking it, he retrieved a large basket full of projectile weapons and carried it with him, after locking the cabinet again of course. Once he reached the field where Ren and Gennosuke were, he set the basket down, momentarily watching Ren dance. From this distance, his sexual ambiguity was even more obvious... well, actually it wasn't obvious. He wasn't sexually ambiguous, he looked like a girl. Andou's experience as a ninja led the thought that if worst came to worst Ren could be taught seduction tactics flit across his mind for the slightest moment, but then he stopped himself because really how old was Ren? If Andou actually had a heart, he would have felt ashamed of himself. He stood for a moment admiring Ren's dance before deciding to start business.

"Time to start, guys," he said gruffly, patting the basket and beckoning them to come. "Today we're going to go over projectiles. I figure that you guys won't be stupid enough to hurt yourselves, or something stupid like that. We're going to be focusing on kunai today. They're relatively large and straight and so easy to control and throw. But we won't start with those first." Andou reached into the basket, and drew out a bright yellow tennis ball.

"This is a tennis ball," he said, stating the obvious. "Before you even touch a kunai, which you will maybe in one or two hours, or maybe even after lunch, you will demonstrate to me proper throwing technique with this ball. In the case of a kunai, you throw it like this." A flick of the arms and the tennis ball was up and away. A distant thump could be heard - the ball hit the outer walls of the academy. "Slower, now," and Andou demonstrated it again. He picked up the ball, clumsily in fact - he held it between his thumb and index finger - and drew it back in a curve motion behind his head. Then, slightly quicker, he retraced his motion, bringing his arm back into his body, letting the ball go when his arm was perpendicular to his body.

"Try it yourselves,"
he said, tossing Gennosuke and Ren a ball. "Just do it. I'll give you pointers on your style and help you get it correct. Maybe you can try it with your left hand too." This suggestion sounded optional, but if you knew Andou well, really it was not. In the final test it would be just like him to to incapacitate your throwing arm and make you use your weak one...

DC: your dex mod + 15
12/12 - you don't have to do all of them at once with the ball lol
This is actually an ability training which is why it's so strenuous. (The high DC)
If you want, you can lower the DC (lowest is your dex mod + 11) but you still have to do 20/20. (And you won't get a Dex reward (+1))
Your exp received will depend on your DC and the quality of writing ^_^ (as detailed in game system 3.0 in the home page)
Alternatively, we can break this training up so you can do other related things that apply ^_^

[Escape the Gym: Post 5]

[[Leaping to the Window
DC: 15 (Its 15ft since I swung fourth the 20ft distance)
Roll:16-1 (Athletics)= 15, Success]]

Batosai had all he needed to make his plan work. Now it was time to set that plan into motion. Batosai walked over to closest climbing rope to the window. He compared the distance between the rope and the window and began to wonder, "That's got to be twenty feet distance. Still with the leap, that would be at least 1/4 the distance. But I got to get this right the first time. If I don't that should be a twenty foot drop to the floor. If I do fall, there is no possibility of me walking out of that without injuring myself."

Batosai checked his equipment to see if he had everything secured. Once everything was checked he grabbed the rope and started to sprint towards the window. As he got as close as he could while holding the rope, he pushed himself forward with all the strength he could force from his legs. That gave him a good distance, but it wasn't enough for Batosai. "Just one more push!" he thought. The rope swung backwards, away from the window. The rope went as far as I could go. At that point, Batosai pushed all his weight and force forward. It forced to rope to move faster and moved closer to the window.

"NOW!", Batosai shouted as he jumped off the rope, his body heading towards the window head first. But his upper body was going to hit the wall just above the window. Luckly Batosai was prepared for that. He grabbed two kunia out and held them out like a murder in a horror flick. His hands quickly back to his head and swung them forward, into the wall. Batosai then swung his legs forward, crashing through the glass. He let go of the kunia and let his body fly through the window and slide on the ground. He slide for just only a couple feet before he came to a complete stop.

He got up slowly to see if he injured himself in any way. It appeared he was just fine. Batosai took a few seconds to brush the dirt and gravel off of his clothes. His big, red eyes turned to see the others outside as well. Not only that, but just few yards away. Batosai only had a grin on his face as he shouted at Andou, "Your going to have to do better than that Andou-sensei. That was too easy escaping out of there."

[the windows were open, lol.. XD]

Andou was just finished with his long technique lecture when he heard a large shout from the gym. It was very loud and Andou wandered closer to the window, slightly alarmed. That sounded like a war cry. Of all the... It was a good thing that he didn't get too close, because Batosai proceeded to slide through the window into open air. Andou was impressed. He'd positioned the rope a fair distance from the window and it could only swing too far. Batosai must have had good legs to jump the rest of the distance. He nodded his approval.

"Good job,"
he said. "You certainly proved your physical gifts there. Very impressive," he said. "Although I would have just found a senbon and picked the lock. But still. You got out." Andou sounded vaguely satisfied, either at Batosai or at himself. Well this certainly meant that there would be a lot more of this in the future!

"Well why don't you join the rest of the class,"
he told Batosai. "We're practising with kunai. You already know how to throw with them so just treat it as a cool down."

With fluid movements Ren continued to dance until he heard Andou-sensei's voice...which made him stop on a dime. His blush moved across his face, making him red for a minute as he noticed both Andou and Gennosuke saw him dancing. Ren stood up straight and was a bit astounded by Andou's carefree example of how to throw a kunai.

He wanted to do the same, he could see himself becoming a master of ranged combat, being that his frail body probably couldn't withstand much damage. Ren's mind went back to his father yet again. Andou reminded him so much of him...stern, yet seemingly caring. Ren believed that to let down Andou-sensei would be like letting down his own father by this point. Ren decided that he'd strive for Andou's approval and he'd do anything to reach it.

When Andou-sensei threw the ball, he caught it. After examining the yellow tennis ball, he took it into his right hand (this being his dominant hand) and turned around to face the wall, he wanted to get it right...and without copping out.

DC: 0 + 15 = 15
0/20

DC: 10 = Failure.

Ren gripped the ball and held it between his thumb and index finger, just as Andou-sensei had, but rearing back he was startled by Batosai-san appearing from the window of the academy, apparently from the training room where Andou had put him. This caused him to over do it and once he actually threw the ball, it strafed off course and didn't hit the wall, instead hit the ground nearby, bouncing a few times before reaching a halt.

Ren was a little ashamed, but he knew he could quit just yet. He wasn't just about to give up, with Andou-sensei watching him carefully. It was time to pick that ball up again and give it another shot.

Ren quickly fetched his tennis ball from across the way where it had reached a halt. He was a bit nervous having Andou watching him. Not to mention the other two students. He put on a smile and picked up the ball. He rushed back to his original spot and gripped the ball again.

He figured he wouldn't get it wrong this time. Even though to him, this training was much different than that of what his father had done. He wished his father had taught him this earlier, but seeing that Andou-sensei was like his father, he might as well stop thinking negatively and work really hard to improve.

DC: 0 + 15 = 15
0/20

He gripped the ball and held it between his thumb and index finger, reared back and let the ball fly. Of course - flying was a relative term, considering that it didn't even come close to the target. Instead it hit the ground less than mid way there and rolled before deciding to rest. Ren smiled warmly, being that he felt awfully silly failing twice in a row. He understood that he wasn't expected to be perfect his first day in training, but wasn't about to give up.

He swore to himself that he would do his very best. He's come all this way and was not about ready to fail here and now. He had to grow stronger, he had to get more resilient!

Ren ran quickly over to where his ball was and swooped it up as he turned around and ran back to his starting spot yet again. He thought back to when his father was around. In his mind he visualized a shadowy figure, without a face. This image of what he figured was his father...it still bothered him that he couldn't even see his father's face, but regardless, the words spoke in his head clear as day."Ren, our dance is one that has been passed done through the generations. Use it, perfect it. You'll find that it will be your basis from which all of your skills will originate from."

The image in his head faded and Ren's eyes sparkled with hope. He was right! His father had taught him how to dance, even if it was just the basics. It was time to apply that knowledge. He felt better dancing anyway...

DC: 0 + 15 = 15
1/20

DC: 20 = Success!

Ren gripped the ball once again as he did prior to this attempt; however, he took a very strange pose. His left leg behind him, he balanced on the ball of his foot. His right leg was crossed over his knee, placed firmly against the ground. With his arms outstretched to his sides, right palm down - holding the ball - and the left palm up - curved upwards, he took pose. His left leg swept the ground, using his right foot as a balance and his arms began to twirl him around as his right foot pushed his up into an upright position.

From here, Ren took a calm fluid motion, contorting his body in the same eerie way he had before, and with a flick of his wrist the tennis ball was tossed at the wall with a precise outcome. The ball bounced off of the wall and landed on the ground, bouncing a few times before reaching a halt. Ren seemed to glide across the open ground towards the ball, landing gracefully beside it as he picked it up. Seeming to end the dance session accordingly.

He had done his first successful throw. Was it the dancing that seemed to help him? Or the thought of his father? Ren couldn't tell for certain, but was extremely relieved to have at least one good toss out of his way.

Gennosuke watched as Andou tossed the ball twice and hit it up against the building. It looked as if this next task would be an easy one. However he didn't see how throwing the ball would help in throwing a kunai. They were both different shapes, weights, and sizes. He sighed pushing the thought from his head as he pulled his hands from his jacket to catch the fuzzy yellow ball.

Just as he caught the ball he saw Batosai coming from the gym's roof. This confused him a little until he realized that it was something Andou had to have put him up to doing. Another way to train he figured. He then heard Ren's ball hit the ground with a soft thud which caused him to realize he was suppose to be training also. He looked at the ball and then back at Ren. "Can't be that hard," he said to himself.

He took the ball and like a baseball pitcher he threw it as hard as he could. The ball completely missed the side of the school and flew on past it. Gennosuke looked shocked. "Guess I threw it too hard," he said rubbing the back of his neck.

[the exercise is now 12/12 ^_^ i talked with kenk about the high success requirement]

Andou retreated to the side and watched his class start to throw. Ren seemed to be having a slight problem at the beginning but he managed to get through it, letting loose a beautiful throw albeit with a very interesting movement and stance... Andou couldn't help but observe him a bit more carefully. He certainly had the perfect dancer's build. "That was a nice one, Murasaki," he told the boy thoughtfully. "It seems to work for you, although in the future I would work on making it take up less space. This is only the beginning though, so get your technique down first. Same for you guys. Just find a way that works for you and perfect it. You can never stop improving."

He moved over to Gennosuke who had just executed the throw of his life, it seemed. "That's the completely wrong stance," he reprimanded him. "You should hold it like you would hold a kunai. Like this," Andou whipped out a kunai from his kunai pouch and showed him. "I know tennis balls aren't the best tool, but we have to cope with what we have right now. Try again."

Andou would retreat after that and decide to do some training of his own. There were four targets quite far away from them, actually, which suited Andou perfectly. In the basket were literally hundreds of kunai and well, why not use them? Andou would throw four at a time and aim for the bulls' eye of each target. It would be a nice way to pass the time and hone his skills.

As Ren was picking up his ball, he heard Andou complimenting his form, but felt a bit silly that he had to take up so much space to throw the ball. Andou-sensei was right. He had to modify his dancing to match the task. Dancing was a passion of his, being that it has been passed down in the family for many generations. Dancing was a big part of their taijutsu, fluid and light, that if used effectively could be the very foundation for their other skills.

Ren took Andou's advice to heart, he had to make a few adjustments, maybe instead of starting so low, he could do an upright pose? Hmm...the mechanics of the dance had to be upheld to their extent...as close as possible at least.

DC: 15
Successes: 1/12

DC: 19 + 3 = 22 = Success!

Ren gripped the ball as before and walked back to his starting position where he threw the ball from originally. Ren stood upright, his left leg on the ground, balancing on the ball of his foot. He crossed his right leg around his left leg and seemed to suspend slightly. With his arms finishing the stance, he managed to complete this within a second, seemingly that moving his flexible body was easy for him. He lowered his right leg down and with a bounce of his left left, twirled in place, sending the ball hurling across the yard, hitting the wall with an uncanny precision. After the ball hit, it bounced back quickly and almost reached where Ren was standing.

He was very pleased with himself! It was just as Andou-sensei had said! His smile spanned across his face and he felt a calming sensation overwhelm him. It was the dancing, something about letting his blood flow wildly seemed to cause Ren much joy and he couldn't wait to give the training more thought and effort! He wasn't sure if his other family danced while throwing weapons, but it seemed to definitely work for him, so he saw no harm.

Gennosuke watched as Andou whipped out the kunai to show him how to hold it. It was way different than what he had did. "Okay I see," he replied showing he understood. He ran off to go recover his tennis ball. After a second he was back in his starting position with ball in hand. He watched as Ren make another successful attempt at throwing the ball and having it bounce off of the wall. "Good job," complimented Gennosuke with a smile.

He turned to face the wall and took the ball, after changing how he held it, and tossed it at the wall. It flew into the air and hit the wall with a soft thud. It bounced on the ground a few times before rolling into a resting position up against a plot of grass. "Thanks for the tip Andou-sensei," said Gennosuke smiling. With Andou supervising them and showing them how its suppose to be done they would be done with the task in no time.

Gennosuke ran over to where the ball had come to a rest and picked it up off of the ground. He dusted off the little bit of dirt that was own it and then headed back over to his starting position. He tossed the ball again towards the wall but this time the ball fell short. It rolled on the ground and didn't even make it to the wall, instead choosing to stop at a small rock sticking out of the ground.

Gennosuke sighed lightly at his failure. "Least I won't have to go across the school to pick you up," he joked. The ball was no more than 15 feet in front of him. He would have to do better next time he tossed the ball. He was about to take a step towards the ball when he realized something. "Andou-sensei, you haven't told us about you," he said sticking his hands into his pockets. If Andou were to be teaching them then they should know about him also.

Well, that had been a fail. Andou had hit the targets, but not even nearly as accurately as he would have liked. Still, he was far too lazy to go retrieve the kunai himself and well, he still had more. There was nothing more satisfying than peppering targets with projectiles, after all.

"Oh, you guys don't have to keep retrieving your balls if you want,"
he said offhandedly to his students. "It's kind of a hassle. Of course you'll have to retrieve them all later, so it's your choice. If it were me, I would do it later." Frowning deeply, Andou grabbed 4 more kunai, deftly manouevring his fingers so that the handle of each kunai ended up between the gaps of all his fingers on his right hand. He focused hard on the targets, so far away, and swung his arm round, letting go of each kunai at the right moment - well, he tried to anyway. It didn't go too well. Maybe he just couldn't train while distracted - he had a class to teach after all. Maybe he should focus on them instead. He looked briefly at Gennosuke's throw, analysing it critically. It was all right. It needed work, but not anything Gennosuke couldn't achieve by himself. That last throw needed more power, he thought, and Andou told him that. But not before Gennosuke asked him a question.

"Me?"
he said wryly. "What would you want to know about me? I'm almost 23, I'm part of the Council, I live alone in the middle of town." It wasn't a derisive statement. Andou honestly didn't know what his students found interesting or wanted to know about himself.

Gennosuke quickly went to retrieve the ball ahead of him and turned his head even quicker when Andou began to describe himself. His answer was a bit bland. Maybe that was how things are when you become a shinobi thought Gennosuke.

"Well, we introduced ourselves to you and gave you our reason for wanting to become shinobi but was your reason?" he asked curiously. "Did you always want to become a teacher or was it just something that happened?" he included in his little questionnaire. Meanwhile he went back to his original position and turned to face the wall. He would still be able to hear Andou with his back turned.

He took the ball and added a little more power behind it before letting go and sending it flying towards the building. It soared through the air and hit the building with a thud. It then bounced on the ground and finally ended in a roll back to where Gennosuke was standing. As the ball hit his sandal and bounce off he looked at it come to a stop.

Ren retrieved his ball again and was going to throw it again as the training was given out. It was rather intriguing to him that he had managed two in a row. He wasn't trying to let it get to his head though, because that would only speak problems for his performance.

He stood up in the same stance as earlier but tried a slight variation, this time propping his right foot on his left thigh, in a very yoga-like way. He reared back for the same throwing method.

In his attempt to throw the ball, his right foot shifted slightly, throwing him off balance. He wound up throwing the ball straight at the ground nearby. He blushed a bit, but without too much worry, retrieved the ball.

He, by this time, realized that Gennosuke and Andou-sensei were conversion somewhat. Ren smiled warmly and chimed in slightly with a query," Andou-sensei, you aren't a medical ninja are you? You healed me somewhat yesterday..."
