Jordiar jumped as he heard the voice, looking up from his book. He quickly put in the cloth bookmark and stood up, peeking around the corner and peering around until she spotted Hotari. "M-ma'am? Are you okay?" He asked shyly, book held tightly in his hands once more.

Hotari made a face to herself as she heard the boy's voice, and as she shook her hands off to heal them some, she looked up, glancing for the source. I'm fine...Please don't call me ma'am? I'm very much a young lady. She laughed to herself and moved to her feet, lifting her skirts some so she could look to her knees easier, making another disappointed face to see that she'd managed to skin them some as well. She brushed her hands over her knees and the minor scrapes disappeared as if nothing had happened. I'm sorry if I interrupted you? She offered, gesturing to the book he clutched so close to himself.

"Sorry!" Jordiar sid, turning a little pink. "Force of habit..." He watched, then shook his head to break his stare, and looked down at his book, and then back up. "Oh, no, I was just reading...Another force of habit." He was silent a few moments. "I had heard there was some magic in the...Underground, but I hadn't seen any." He chuckled. "I guess this is more like home than I thought."

Quite the contrary, actually, Hotari offered, brushing her skirts off now that she'd healed herself and the tingly stings had faded. There's probably more magic here than the otherwise. She nodded to him before tilting her head, a slightly sarcastic, almost thoughtful tone to her voice as she asked How do you force a habit? It was a rhetorical question, but his attempt to answer it might prove somewhat amusing. She clasped her hands behind her back while she watched him, waiting for what he might say next.

"U-uhm..." Jordiar blinked. "It was...forced on me?" He ran his fingers along the edges of the pages of his book, a little nervously, hugging his book a little tighter. "I mean, that can happen, when you have nothing else to do so your force yourself to do something new..."

If you'd like, I'll be on my way and you can return to your book? Hotari tilted her head to the boy, inwardly amused with his rather skittish behavior. You seem like you were quite taken with it. She shrugged a slender shoulder and tilted her head the other way, her eyes examining the boy's features, curious about his nervousness.

Jordiar blinked, and held up one hand, waving it a little. "A-ah, no! I mean, I was just reading to pass time...I've read this so much I can repeat it mostly in my head but..." He blushed slightly. "B-but I guess it's all your decision..." He laughed quietly, a little nervous, and chewed on his bottom lip.
He wasn't used to taling with me. Being around people was fine, but talking...

Hotari continued to examine Jordiar, her expression rather blank for a long moment before she smiled brightly. Well, if you know how the story goes, maybe you'd like to do something different? mm...Make friends with me? She offered a curtsy to the boy, her eyes glittering mischiviously.

"F-friends?" Jordiar said. "No one's really ever...offered to be my friend..." He blinked, then nodded. "I'd like to be friends! Most of my 'friends' back home were forced friends, expected to be my friend..."

Hotari crinkled her nose some and shifted slightly closer to the boy. Forced friends? Why? She knew in the back of her mind that she shouldn't ask such personal questions, but curiosity was getting the better of her, and she wanted to pick apart the workings of this boy's mind some before sharing anything about herself, as she knew herself well enough to realize that once she popped that top, he'd know more than she'd really mean to share in no time.

"Ah, it's not really important..." Jordiar said, blushing a little. He wasn't sure how things worked out in this world. "I suppose I just always thought it was normal..." Wait, didn't I just say it wasn't important? Why am I talking? "I mean, no one wanted to be friends with the freaky bookworm kid like me..." He trailed off. "AH! I'm Jor-Jordiar." He said. "That was rude of me, to keep blabbing without even properly introducing myself..."
PostPosted: Tue Jan 16, 2007 10:40 pm

Ah, well, Jor-Jordiar, Hotari started, grinning to the boy as she offered her hand. I don't think you seem all that freaky...and, My name is Hotari. She bowed her head to him in a half-curtsy and tilted her head to him some, still examining his features.

Jordiar took her hand, bowing over it slightly, a little nervously. "It's very nice to meet you...Hotari." He wasn't sure if he was supposed to add a 'miss' or not in front of it, so he guessed. She didn't seem as uptight and strict as people back home.
"And it's nice to know you don't think I'm freaky." Jordiar said with a shy little smile, letting go of her hand, still hugging his book as if it would fly away if he let go.

Hotari laughed lightly at Jordiar, clasping her hands behind her back to keep from patting his head. Don't be silly - You'd have to be remarkably stranger for me to even half thing you to be strange. She tilted her head and stepped closer again to the boy, curious as to why he seemed so attatched to the book he clutched. So..What's your book about?

Jordiar blinked, and looked down at the book. "Oh, this?" He shook his head. "Nothing special. Just a historical fiction about my home, and a bunch of legends...My mom wrote it, and gave it to me, so I wouldn't forget where I came from."
