fatpenguin1243 Haha. In class today we were sightreading this piece. OMFG! My part was hard. Our last note was a high third octave B. o.o It scared me. That note is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FLAT! It almost registered as a Bb. Anyway, we got to the last note and the first alto/me had this jazzy little run thing and we held out a whole note then ended on another little run that led up to the high B while everyone dropped out except me I hit that note. Well, I did my little run and hit the note, mind you that my head was gonna explode, and then HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWONNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKKK!!! XD This unGodly noise that sounded like a goose that was put through medeival torture. My director looked at me and said "What in the name of Merlin's pants was that torturous noise!?!" XD meheheheh xd I loled when I read that. That sounds like something my band director would say razz BDs sure say weird things don't they? First rule of Tenors: NEVER SQUEAK!! >.< or else the Senior beats you up xp

I surprise myself; and I surprise my BD too. Because most of the baris at our school are crap (he thinks I should buy one, but I can't until I sell my flute); and I happen to have one of the worst ones there; yet my tone isn't that bad (most of the time). Like, we had festival today (AIBF) and he said we sounded great!
My instrument is missing screws and little parts... and I sometimes have problems with the high notes, they sometimes sound off, and the E sounds sharp no matter how hard I try to pull it into tune...
So I'm going to take my flute in and see if maybe the school wants it... V.V It's never been played; I switched to saxaphone shortly after I got it. I had jazz second semester.
Any tips on what models of baris there are that are good?

I play the tenor saxophone, but even if I didn't play maybe like a couple of measures or even the whole piece, my band teach probably wouldn't even notice. :[ I don't think my band teacher realizes the potential we (me and some other tenor) could have if he busted us not playing, you know? Just to at least make us feel like the band need us. :]

Currently I play the Alto, but I'm learning the Bari. If I'm lucky I'll learn bass sax. That'll be fun.

Any tips on what models of baris there are that are good? I've played on four different Yamahas that are in good condition. I'd just suggest one of those. They all are great. Then I played on this one old piece of crap bari once, and there were like leaks and everything was wrong with the thing. I couldn't get a note out.
If your school can afford it, get a new or in-good-condition Yamaha. If your school can't, I suggest having a repair man fix the missing parts, and as for the E... That's just a bad note on all saxes, I think. But you can tell the repair man to fix the key heights (Don't think I'm an expert; I learned this fact from my band director that the heights of the keys have a lot to do with how a note comes out. Keys get bent overtime. The manufacturers have certain specifications about the exact heights the keys should be at, and the repair man ought to be able to fix that.)
=)

And baris are really expensive, always over 2,000 bucks. Unless you want a real piece of crap, which you obviously don't, so that's why I suggest you try and get your school to purchase a new one.
Andddd.
I play alto, tenor, and bari. Alto in my free time or in church band, tenor in marching and pep, and bari in concert. xD Love bari the most, I would say.
