Hi clarinetists, my friend plays the clarinet and she has trouble with her high notes. The note are high b,c,d, and above. Its an octave above the "jump".
Hehe, still no help yet sweatdrop

i could have sworn I posted....

er are those the ones that are fingered as low E, F and G [with ALL fingers down] ?

well I think it can apply to both octaves, whichever it was,

anyways I would suggest loosening the jaw a bit, having firm side muscles and opening up the throat, also to be sude to have a steady stream of air, another way of helping is moving yourself down a bit when you play the notes, it helps. Either that or longtones D <3
O.o I said high notes, hehe, the basic loosening the jaw is known by everyone. Had to learn that one myself though DX. Anyways yeah, I thought that it would be like the sax, moving your mouth farther on the mouthpiece to produce higher notes. Is it the same for the clarinet?

yep

I never could get the hang of air tonguing. I tried it but wound up slacking air off and doing half a dozen other bad things and I finally decided to TTTTTR or nothing. (Tip Top Tongue on Tip Top of Reed)

I'd recommend just tonguing in the way that feels right and gets the tone across. But the important thing in both tonguing methods is to never slack off on your air or you will die a most horrible and painful death impaled upon the conductor's baton. 3nodding

O_O WAIT WHATS AIR TONGUING!?? ::falls onto huge ground of confusion::

biggrin somehow even when I did fail he'd never throw ze baton, instead he'd accidentally hit his hand on the stand, happened yesterday while playing alligator alley, he was conducting and WHAM! hit his hand, i was like, "O_O...::keeps playing::"

I had an epiphany yesterday, all of a sudden I could play my solo =O it was so cool!

Mr. A told us that as of yesterday we have truly become wind ensemble [don't ask me how -_O] and it was one of the best rehearsals EVER O_o;;. We had moments of utter silence and there was this air of wonderful AWESOMENESS then Amy's phone went off...it did a bit of teh chromatic scale, it was our other other other bass clarinetist Eunice [...I didn't realize there was only five basses there...well actually four...if you don't count the contra, biggrin i love the contra!]

we laughed like crazy, :] and I almost cried, o-O people were ACTUALLY committed to the music and it was like...woah......

OH! THE COOLEST MOST AWESOMENEST THING!![besides being invited to be in a music camp]

REALLY COOL PROFFESSIONAL/UNIVERSITY PEOPLE ARE COMING TO CLINIC US!! LIKE HENRY ROBERT REYNOLDS :OOO! He conducted sanctuary, my most beloved piece by ticheli. mr. a says just about everyone writes concert band music for him. I overheard him talking about the new academy thats gonna happen next year up at the high school [-_O i've been recommended... biggrin D YAY!] we're having people from the boston symphony clinic us [ biggrin like in boston <3 that was awesome] and from all these universititeis, even yale O_____o; its so cool!! I wonder if mr. a will bring the oh so great Frank Ticheli, he's so awesome...

o_o i'm using awesome too much...

sorry but I'm just like WHEE! =/ I'll miss eighth grade...

@Miyoko: XDDD That's great for you! Congrats on Truly Becoming a Wind Ensemble. Hmm...I was hanging out with my sister and her music major friends one time at Catlett Music Center at OU and they were messing with cell phone ringtones, and at one point we were arguing over whether the scale ringtone was chromatic, Dorian, or...uh...whatever that other one was. >_> Hope the clinic goes well, and you have a great time being a FRESHMAN! >D!

@Riku: eek scream Nooo Rico Concert Series! NO! *slaps box out of your hand* For one who is working on tonguing, go with a softer Vandoren Traditional or Mitchell Lurie (if those even exist still...I haven't seen any in a while) and work your way up. It'll keep a great sound while compensating for your tongue work. 3nodding

Speaking of reeds...I want to try out a new brand of reeds. I've been thinking of trying Vandoren 56 Rue Lepic or Vandoren Black Master/White Master...anyone had any experience with these brands of reeds?

The new music store's opened where Brook Mays used to be...it's not a Buffet outlet like the rumors, but the same people who run the music store in Edmond have opened another here. I haven't checked it out yet...I will tomorrow! blaugh

Um...
Ricos are fine...I think.
The first clarinet in our band, she has a five star clarinet playing lesson teacher who plays in a concert house O.O
She says to use ricos because vandorens are evil.
Always listen to the first clarinet.
SHE IS MY ROLE MODEL!!!!!! gonk

rofl thanks =D! gaspie that is cool!! Dorian mode..i can't remember what that is...oh well i'm not taking music theory yet [and yet my teacher confuzzles me with all this theory stuff ;_; it hurts my head, he just gets into it and its crazy]

rofl :] i argue about stuff like that, its fun ^_^. =] I somehow find utter joy in finding scales in musicO_o; iono why its like wheres wally?!

sankyuu :3. Uh yes I will try D:

hmm should I take music theory my junior or senior year? I wanna take French [and music most obviously...since i'm gonna try and be in the academy...] and music theory, I think I'll try and get rid of computers and SRC during summer school o.<

hmm I found out we're having a interview for the academy, :O wonder what questions they will ask... "why do you want to be a musician?" [would they laugh at the saving lives theory i got from the clinic with the boston symphony? O_o if they did they'd be laughing at the best trombinist in the world too then......]

WHEE O-O

well it depends, there are some ricos that are good [my teacher got some of this new rico reed for free a few months back, said they were pretty good surprisingly] but most are bad, I honestly like vandoren ALOT o_<; I still want to try their rue lepic reeds....

my teacher has 200 of the rue lepic reeds at home....got them for free...[his gf whose an oboist works at the wonderful bestest music store i've been in for woodwinds, RDG woodwinds...i'm guessing thats how he got them -_-] crying

:O she has an r-13!? I have an e-11 [with rather fine wood biggrin everyone has been saying that <3333 mr. acciani picked it out for me ^_^]

o_o wait five star lesson playing teacher? biggrin that sounds trippy :O ooh what hall? :O iono if you can call my teacher five star...maybe... rofl j/k ^_^; he's awesome, thanks to him I'm first chair ;o;!

yes! Always listen to firsties!

well not all the time, we're wrong sometimes...especially me... emo I suck at timing...

and yay for the tonguing exercises working!!! [I haven't done the exercises for two weeks... ninja ninja he'll never know....]

speaking of reeds, stupid second chair [whose sometimes first] broke my best reed!! [well i shouldn't be whining, i should have done the rotation thing of reeds] at the rehearsal where the presentation of the academy was taking place, DAMN HIM! DX size four is still a bit uncomfortable to break in for me @_@ argh...

I find that my life just sounds interesting because I end up making everything absolutely complicated for me gonk

Anyways, I watched Amadeus last night, oh my mozart it was wonderful! [I can still hear mozart laughing...] But I could have sworn Constanze divorced mozart and their child died in real life....or am I just imagining things o_O;;

O_o the magic flute was written a while before mozart had died? [I wish they had a scene about the clarinet concerto D: ] I always thought it was his jupiter symphony...since it was the last...okay I don't think I've looked into mozart enough o-o;.
