Proteus growled in frustration and slammed his hoof into the water, "Damn it! Stupid water!" He dragged himself back to shore, "Stupid me..."

She curled up under her blanket, sobbing gently and beating herself up for being so stupid and careless with her words.

Proteus didn't care about whatever dangers could be lurking in the shadows cast by the setting sun. He wasn't moving. He wouldn't go home, he wouldn't eat, he wouldn't do anything until she came back.

She fell asleep, waking up in the middle of the night because of a pain gnawing at her. She'd left him on the shore...another mistake she'd have to apologize for...Why can't I do anything right... She was already heading back for the beach, just incase he was still there.
