Rajei, still asleep, moved one of her hands to Kai's head and started petting his hair. "Kyuu," she said, clenching that hand into a tiny, childlike fist.

Kai woke up when he felt her hand. He looked down at her and blushed.

Rajei sensed him wake and opened her eyes slowly. She whimpered a little, since she hadn't wanted to wake up. Then she felt his hair and she blushed furiously, leaping back off the bed. "I-I'm sorry," she said, bowing.

Rajei put a hand over where her heart was. The outlines of her tails had begun the restoration process, but it hurt her. "Did you see...?" she asked Kai, asking him if he'd seen where her two tails had been.

"They were drunk, I think," Rajei said quietly. "He started hitting me until I was too weak and I was forced to transform. Someone else pinned me down and he took a knife...the onyx knife that burns me...and pressed it into my tail. He stabbed through the one and then turned the blade..." She trailed off. "The other one I bit off to save myself. When I was escaping, it was caught on something and I was running out of time...I turned and bit through it and then I ran."
