"You attacked Sabin's pet," he pointed out cooly, then laughed. "Though, Em freed th' man who plans to...eventually kill said pet. I don't know what t' tell you, Lucas. What's done is done. I don't like that they 'ave Emelyn either. But frankly, I'm not goin' to let it stand in my way. She'll be fine. If they were tryin' to use someone to prevent me from pullin' anythin', Emelyn wouldn't be th' one in th' labs." Which sounded bad, but it was true. Of course...he didn't know that they weren't doing exactly that. He hadn't seen or heard from Natsumi in a while.

He raised a brow as Lucas outlined the meeting with Zach, then glanced curiously towards Gaius, expecting and awaiting an explanation.

Gaius shot Thom a sharp look. He didn't really... intend to kill Zach, did he? Even for all of Gaius's hard feelings, the pegasus-man didn't really want him dead. Not by his hands. He just wanted him to admit he was wrong, to grovel for his forgiveness. That kind of selfish stuff.

Lucas's words brought him up short. For a moment, he stared in confusion. Then, the meaning slowly sank in, and from the depths of his mind, where he'd buried them, echoed those words in a distinctly French accent.

...You won't be missed by anyone...

It was easy to tell by the horse-man's nature that somehow, those words stung. His lips were curled in a grimace and his hands clenched his knees white-knuckled. Vixen, sensing her master's agitation, nuzzled his arm.

After a moment, Gaius looked up, noticing both of the guys were looking at him expectantly. Taking a deep breath, Gaius shifted his seat.

"It's... not something I've talked about with anyone, really," he began. "I told you Zach was taken up to the labs again. Truth is, we were both taken. It was after one of our scuffles, and I'd clocked one on the dragon. We ended up in an unlit room, tied to chairs and unable to see anything. Sabin scolded us, like children," he growled, "and then set us a task to try and get us to 'work together' and get along or something. Things were going fine too until Zach tried to choke me."

The horse-man sighed, rubbing his nose with a finger. "So it was back to the dark room. Sabin was angry and belittling Zach and I had the stupidity to butt in and try to stand up for him. That's before I knew better. Sabin... is very, very hard with his words. Harder than I could ever hit anyone physically." Gaius bit his lip, recalling that harsh exchange. It still ached, like an old wound. "He said the reason any of us was here was because we were people that could disappear and never be missed..."

"You're going to kill Zach? Just like that?" Lucas also didn't want to see anyone dead. He just wanted to be left alone and have some kind of retribution for his eye. But not death. No, the dragon should continue to live in this hell, scared of the labs. Then Lucas could only hope for the day when Zach would realize the truth and regret everything he'd done or said.

"She better be fine." Lucas did not say it in a threatening way, it came out level and empty of much emotion. He did hope that the snake would consider that his actions might not only affect himself, though.

He watched Gaius curiously, which then switch to concern at other man's change in body language. For some reason it bothered him to hear that Gaius and Zach, for their fight, were forced to work together to get along. He wasn't sure why.

"I have people back home that I know miss me. I'm sure there are people who miss you. Duvert is messing with you, trying to tear you down, make you feel useless and powerless. Don't listen. He just wants you broken, scared and obedient like Zach." He felt bad for telling Gaius about that. He just delivered a blow to Gaius from Zach without even thinking about it and Lucas scolded himself mentally. "Duvert will tell people anything in order to mold them into what he wants. Break 'em down before building them back up. It's likely what he did to Zach."

"Eventually," Thom admitted casually, glancing from Gaius to Lucas as if surprised that they would disagree wit the idea. "Unless I find some better use for 'im. But once those uses run out?" Chuckling, he leaned back against the tree, tongue giving a lazy flick. "I 'ave my reasons. I'm sure Zachary expects no less from me."

He fixed Gaius with a curious stare, finally nodding in agreement with Lucas's words. "E's right, it's just Duvert gettin' to you. I don't know about either of you, but I... I wouldn't 'ave been easy to up an' vanish." He almost hadn't said it, once he had thought about it. True, he'd been famous. Famous the world over. But how many close ties did he actually have? His relationship with his family was far from the best, several of his teammate had died in the crash, it would be easy to say that he was one of them. No one would dig to be sure. No one would have actually come looking for him.

Shaking his head, he offered a smile. "Duvert's good at gettin' into your 'ead, makin' you think whatever 'e wants. Easiest thing t' do is ignore him."

Gaius nodded, sitting back and reaching over to ruffle Vixen's head. "Yeah... don't worry 'bout me. With months to ponder over it, I've reached the same conclusion." A slight smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth and he shrugged. "Still, sometimes reason can't win over that nasty emotion. Good to hear that from you guys."

Casting a quick glance up at the broken camera to make sure they really weren't being listened in on, Gaius glanced back at Thom. "Be... Before you try to kill him... what are you planning to do with Zach? How're you going to get at the labs?"
PostPosted: Sun May 20, 2007 1:46 pm

He smiled, glad that Gaius appeared to be okay again.

"I just don't agree with killing. I'd rather he continue being miserable. Maybe more miserable and have him leave me and others alone. But not killing." Even if he had the opportunity to kill someone like Duvert or Moreau, Lucas wasn't sure he could go through with it. More likely he'd rather pump both with a terrible serum and let them see what it was like.

After Gaius asked his question, he waited quietly for Thom's reply.

"I've already tried to kill him," Thom replied shortly, eyes narrowing into a glare. "When I decide to kill him, it will not be an attempt. He will die." it was an arrogant claim to make, perhaps, but Thom meant every word of it. He had nearly killed the dragon once--nearly strangled him, in fact, just as Zach had nearly strangled Gaius. Now, with his chip gone, once he wanted Zach dead, he would be able to see to it that he actually died. He wasn't expecting it to be very difficult.

"It's rather difficult to be miserable forever on a tropical island when Big Brother's on your side," the cobra countered dryly, fixing his glare on Lucas for the moment. "He's scared, but for how long? He'll make a decision sooner or later, he won't be scared forever. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with him," Thom admitted, glare fading as he considered the question. "Nor do I know how we're goin' to attack th' labs. Jamal's not exactly one for plannin'. I know Oz and Seth are tryin' somethin' to get past th' gate... Other than that, I really 'aven't much of anythin'."
PostPosted: Sun May 20, 2007 2:11 pm

Gaius shifted uncomfortably. Thom was so determined, it unnerved him. While he was willing to hurt Zach if it could help them, going that far... He didn't like to think about it. Not in cold blood.

"Wait," he said, sitting up suddenly, "You've heard about the tunnel? Did Seth tell you?" He cast a wary glance between the two, but decided they'd already shared enough. He felt he could trust them with this much, at least. "...I've been looking for others to help... with the digging. Don't tell anyone, though."

Lucas didn't respond to Thom anymore on the subject and looked away. The snake sounded determined to go through with his plan and there really wasn't anything Lucas could say to change his mind.

The talk of attack and such made him lift his head and look between Thom and Gaius curiously. "Digging? So people are planning attacks and escapes?" He leaned back against a tree. "So you get passed the gates, you might take out a few guards depending on whether the people attacking are chipless. That still leaves unknown security measures inside, and that's if you somehow figure out a way to get through the front door. Isn't there a keypad or don't you need to be buzzed in from the inside? Is Seth digging a tunnel toward the labs?" What good would a tunnel be? "I'm not trying to stop you, I'm just wondering what people are proposing." So far the ideas seemed half-baked with a potential for loss of life.
PostPosted: Sun May 20, 2007 2:46 pm

"Oz told me." Thom's expression was one of surprise following Gaius's question, though he soon remembered that Oz had infact mentioned the pegasus man in talking about his plans. "I can't help with th' diggin', though. It's too close to th' labs, I can't risk it."

Grinning, he send Lucas a shrug. "We'll figure it out then, won't we? A tunnel's not an end-all, be-all, but it can only help up. It gives 'em somethin' t' do, an' it might be useful. I'm not about t' stop them. Really though, think about it. There are at least 70...subjects on this island. An' we've proved that they can survive after removin' the chips. We start pullin' chips, kickin' out cameras... 'Ow many guards can they have in th' labs? Even if there are more, we know the jungle better than they can ever hope to, an' we can use that to our advantage. Make them bring the fight to us. Guerilla warfare."

Gaius stood up a bit straighter, looking up at Lucas with a determined expression. "Still, we'll be able to strike them on the inside," he said, his voice quick with excitement. "And if we can get far enough... hotwire a Jeep, drive it to the helicopter... take the pilot hostage, maybe. Or capture one of the people on the other side of the fence. They don't always stay inside... Not if there's something out in the village that needs their attention..."

"And what Thom says is right... there's a lot of us. What if we out-number the labs? And... I haven't heard anything, but if Annie is still at large..." He shrugged. "And you say Jamal, that tiger guy, is still out there too. Seems they're already losing control of things. And those like Jamal don't need guns and stuff... they've already been given weapons by the labs." A shy smirk was shot Thom's way, eyeing the fang-filled mouth. "If we can get even one person off, that'd be enough to alert the mainland. It's near-impossible, but we don't really have any other options. And I'm willing to risk it."
PostPosted: Sun May 20, 2007 5:20 pm

"Yes, it does give them something to do. And, yes, there are likely over 70 subjects, but not all would be cut out or willing to charge the labs. And provided the dechipping doesn't harm them, some could never elude the guards because of their changes. And some aren't fighters or predators. What about people like Emerwyn? Or Marshall?"

There was so much more he wanted to say on that, but stopped and shook his head. He sighed. Seeing Gaius get excited made it harder to speak his concerns. He didn't want to put affect his resolve. But he also felt it was neccessary to speak. He wasn't sure what kind of thinker Seth was, but Thom seemed like the type that just wanted payback no matter what and to hell with the consequences. Even if he wasn't the only one affected. They already said Jamal wasn't much of a thinker. Oz didn't seem to be the brightest apple, either. And as much as he appreciated it, after Gaius' attempt to get his eye away from Zach, it really didn't seem like the pegasus thought his actions through completely. Of course...he couldn't exactly say the same about himself in recent weeks.

"Don't get me wrong. I want to be free of the labs, but I just hope everyone involved understands that our first attempt may very well be our last. If we organize and hit them we better have a damn good plan to do that. One that gives us a chance. Not one that we only have a desperate hope in. Because if we fail one can be sure the labs will not take second chances. Lock us in cages, no contact, several chips, and to remain that way for the rest of our lives. And that decision might not affect just the ones who were in on it, even the ones who are innocent could share in it."

Lucas stroked Dasher, who had flopped down onto his lap. A mad flight through hijacked helicopter? He rubbed the bridge of his nose. It was a possibility, so long as Moreau didn't have any means to shoot them down or had the ability to cut off the chopper before it could touch down somewhere else, then have Moreau's goons waiting to grab the Islander again.

The idea of going back to the mainland and contacting the authorities as they were now filled Lucas with just as much concern. What if they were just trading in one cage for another?

"I don't know--we hide them. The guard's are idiots, they make a lot of noise an' they move slowly. The jeeps can't come into th' trees. Account for these threats, an' there's not much else. If we can 'ave someone a safe distance in th' jungle b'fore the chip's removed, it'd be easy to get them to a hidin' spot b'fore the labs could pinpoint where they were. After th' first few, it wouldn't be difficult..."

He paused briefly to gather his thoughts, then set about outlining what they had so far. "Look, Newt's workin' on weapons for those who don't 'ave them naturally, an', for all his cowardice, that man's bloody brilliant. We get a little group situated in th' jungle, take out all the cameras in the area, off whatever guards come to fix them. Gradually build up. It's not perfect, it's not foolproof, but 'ow're we goin' t' know if we never try?"

Thom fixed Lucas with a questioning stare, confusion clearly written on his face. "Nothing is foolproof, nothing we can do or plan or even discuss will work out exactly as we hope, but is that a reason to just give up on it? There's a risk to everyone involved. There's a risk to everyone who doesn't want to get involved! But what's the alternative? We live out our lives as th' play things of some 'igh an' mighty doctors. At the drop of a hat, somethin' could go wrong and Moreau could decide to end this whole 'experiment'. And what 'appens to us then? 'E's not afraid to pull people from their families an' turn them into animals, I'm sure 'e wouldn't hesitate to off 'em all as well if it meant hidin' the evidence."

He took a deep breath and paused, shaking his head, only to laugh softly. "Look, I know I sound mad. I know this idea seemed ridiculous, an' I'm probably just bein' paranoid... But I've seen what th' labs can do to us, any of us, over nothin' more than an insult. An' I'm not about to endure that again. If there's any possibility of bein' rid of those doctors and gettin' our lives back, I, for one, am goin' to take it. If not this way... Then I'll find another. But I can't do this alone."
PostPosted: Sun May 20, 2007 6:07 pm

"We can't just wait for our freedom to drop in our laps," Gaius said, continuing what Thom'd started. "I know it's risky... I don't expect everyone to be able to fight, but Thom's right. What's to keep Moreau from locking us up forever tomorrow, without provocation? Every day we wait only makes it more likely to happen. And while we sit on our hands, more victims are being shipped here. At the very least, we can try to stop that."

Gaius raised an eyebrow at the news that Newt, of all people, was fashioning weapons for the rebellion, but somehow, it seemed to make sense from what he'd seen in the guy's duplex. "Not everyone has to fight... and I know there's those that support the labs, or are too afraid. I wouldn't want Marshall to have to face that danger. But I'm willing to face it for him. I know you're worried about what might happen if we fail... but what if we succeed?"

"Lucas, they took your eye, for God's sake!" he exclaimed. "I know from personal experience, they don't think of us as human anymore. They didn't from the start. We're barely beasts for them, objects for their study! If we can do this, we may never be human again, but we can at least live with dignity and as we deserve to live. As human souls with intelligence."

"I know they took my eye. I know what we are to them. Guys. I'm not trying to tell you not to do it or to give up. I hate it here and I'm ready to do what I can to free myself, others, and make sure no one else suffers this fate. I understand that nothing is foolproof. That things don't always work out they way we planned them. All I'm saying is to think things through. I want to go in fighting with the best plan with the best chance of success. That's...that's really all I'm saying. We don't want to do anything that might strengthen their security, make them hire more guards, or do anything until we can be ready." He looked toward Thom.

"While people like Newt prep, we also need to somehow get information. A better idea of what we are up against. It would help if we knew what was in the inside of the labs and the security around the helicopter. Maybe weaknesses. Hell, it'd be nice if another hurricane came about and gave us advanced warning." He smiled a little, his attempt at a joke.

"Look, I'm ready to do what I can to make this work." He just worried that throwing his chips in with wild, unpredictable people like Jamal and Thom might be the wrong way to go.
