"So that's how you do it!" Lily cried out, actually pointing. "Here I was, horrendously jealous, and you were using magic! That's... not fair." The teen began to pout, though it was obviously all in good fun. "And you do too." she added, sticking out her tongue again smiling a bit as she ran a hand through Arlen's hair. "Night love." she murmured, knowing he couldn't hear.

"I know it seems unfair, but it keeps me from fixing my hair or dress in the middle of a ball or ceremony," Lady Crystal said, holding her robe closed as she sat down. "I'm afraid that illusions are all my magic is useful though. Please don't tell anybody. Many people would never accept an illusionist in a position of authority."

"Yeah, but if I told, you wouldn't be in a position of authority, and you wouldn't need to marry Arlen." Lily pointed out, then gave a smile. "But I'll never tell. Your secret is safe with me." Suddenly, she paused, and nibbled her lower lip. "Do you even want to marry Arlen? I mean... man to woman, not as a matter of course to someone in your position."

"I don't know," Lady Crystal said. "We were supposed to grow up as childhood friends, but certain events prevented that. I would like to get to know him though, but he never seems to be around anymore and before he would avoid me."

Lily looked at the man she was currently cuddled up with, then glanced at Crystal. "Why does it have to be him? He's all I've got that's just mine, that Cerridwyn never had any part of... I can't lose him, no matter how much I may wonder if he'd be happier without me."

"Lily, he's not some random traveler," Lady Crystal said urgently. "He is royalty. The rightful heir to a powerful kingdom that would crush us should the contest to the throne be decided before he returns. Marrying him would form a long lasting alliance between his kingdom and Aeaea and protect it for generations to come. He is everything you have, but he is my country's only hope."

Lily frowned, then shook her head. "I don't care. That may sound selfish, but I don't. My whole life, I gave up everything so that other people could get what they wanted, and I'm not doing it anymore. There has to be another way. Make him king, and have your descendants get married, make him king and draw up an alliance. Marry whoever gets put on the throne instead of him... something."

"I wish it were that simple," Lady Crystal said sadly, and then forced a smile to her face. "Let us talk of happier things though. I will do what I can to make sure you are happy Lily, but for now let us focus on something different. Alright?"

For a moment, Lily wore a stubborn look that suggested she wouldn't drop the subject, and then she sighed and made herself smile as well. "I'm afraid I don't have a lot to talk about. He really is everything I have, besides my magic. You'll have to start us off."

Lady Crystal furrowed her brow in thought. "Well, I don't know. Is there something you'd like to know about me?" she asked, hoping to start a conversation somehow.

"How old are you?" Lily asked, tipping her head to the side as she started with the basics.

"I am almost twenty one," Lady Crystal said, wondering how far this line of conversation could actually go.

"Somehow I thought you were older." Lily mused, blinking. "You're always so sure of yourself. I guess they teach you that when you're royalty, huh?"

"Yes, I was taught to be confident. At least on the outside," she added, blushing slightly again. "And I'm not royalty, only nobility."

"Same thing. It all means you're better than us small folk, doesn't it?" Lily asked, a wry smile twisting her lips. "Royalty, nobility... it's all the same, when you get down to it."
