"Make sure you don't stop!" Mephisto warned.

"I'm here Faust..."She took his hand and continued to heal him. The pain was growing ever worse. It started to make its presence known to her.

Faust seemed to realize that he was hurting her. "Netsubo... I can manage, don't... hurt yourself..."
Yuki poured more of his energy into the healing. He had used so much to kill the gang members... he wished now that he'd saved it. He was still sickened by what he'd seen earlier, but also filled with a deep respect for his father's courage.

Netsubo shook her head,"I'll be fine Faust...You're hurt badly and this can help you...."She felt like her insides were on fire.

"Really, Netsubo, it's not so bad.... take a rest, I think you can..." Faust said.
"You should, Mom!" Yuki said. "I'll take over for a minute." he could see that she was over-stressed.

She shook her head,"No, I'm ok...I can keep going..."Her voice was strained and the pain grew more intense.

"Mom!" Yuki shouted. "Mom, you need to stop, right now!"
Mephistophiles swallowed. "He's right... stop, Netsubo, you'll have to risk it... if you try to do this, you'll kill the three of you."

Netsubo heard them and decided to listen. She pulled back, curling into a ball of pain. The pain was very close to her heart and she could feel it start to skip. She couldn't move, barely breathe.

Faust sat bolt upright, breathing hard. "Is she all right?"
"Dad... lie down, you're still in rough shape..." Yuki cried.
He smoothed the hair away from Netsubo's brow. "You shouldn't have let her," Faust said, looking up at Mephisto.
Mephistophiles offered the barely-clothed Faust his jacket. "Yeah, but.... she's sort of attached to you. You're her husband, after all."

The pain stopped suddenly, leaving her numb.Her breathing completely stopped. Then, without warning, pain started in her heart. It was a pulsing pain that left her in darkness.

"Oh no..." Yuki breathed. "Mephisto, what's going on?"
"I don't know..." Mephisto said softly.
Faust struggled to his feet, carrying Netsubo. Mephistophiles noticed his knees shaking and took her. "Easy," he said quietly. "Her time may have come."
"Stop it!" Faust said angrily. "I won't let her die because of me... she's too young, and we..." his breath caught. "We've only just begun our journey."

Netsubo couldn't breath. The pain was so intense. It left her in a world of darkness. There was nothing there, and it scared her more than anything. Was this what death was?

Mephistophiles checked her heart rate. "Her heart is beating, but... I can't tell if she's breathing or not...."
"She's not going to die!" Faust cried fiercely. "Damn it... what I wouldn't give for a sterile laboratory!"

Her body convulsed in pain as wave after wave of fire like sharpness overtook her. She let out a small scream.

"She can scream, she can breathe," Faust decided. "Put her there, on that dry raised platform there..."
Mephisto complied, looking confused. "What are you going to do? You don't have any equipment, or lighting... and you've just been stitched together. Your muscles should still be in shock, and your bones could break if you move the wrong way!"
"I think I'll be fine... but Netsubo won't be, if I can't figure out what the matter is!"
