CuAnnan Did you point out that the G~ word and it's etymology are almost identical to what happened with the word "******"? There are literary figures who used the word in their book titles, I believe Samuel Clemens has a book with the word in the title? After all, it just means black person. stare Where's that damned quote when I need it. It's someone, I can't remember who, saying that our G~ are just like your N~ (to someone American), and then something along the lines of "They're dark, they're stupid, and they're thieves", and it pretty much sums up the European stereotypes against Rroma. Also, while I appreciate that people don't want to look at certain words, that list seriously confused me since there are some letters I can name a few slurs for. Though, I mean, I know another slur that begins with G, just I generally know what people mean when they use G~ here.

I'm perfectly happy with people not using these words. I'm perfectly happy with abolishing these words from my vocabulary as well. But apart from "n~", I don't know what these words are. Is there a (purely educational) list somewhere? gonk There was this person in this guild - I think it was Nuri, actually - who had(has?) a link to a 'stop the use of the r-word' website in her signature, and it took me FOREVER to figure out what the hell it stood for. XD; And the only reason I did was because I eventually got annoyed with not being able to come up with a racially charged word on my own that would fit and clicked on the link and had a look. But there's no links here. XD; .. Basically; What Celeblin said, I guess. XD

Asking you to learn a little bit about religion =|= forcing you to actually have and follow a religion. I just thought it might be helpful to you in understanding where I come from spiritually, as well as understand why I hold some of the views that I do in general. You're always going on about how you want to understand me...apparently you say those words to just make yourself feel better and like you're making an effort.

True, the "N~ word" came from a perversion of the word "Nikro" or however that language's word for "black" is spelled, but they're not actually black. The "G~ word" comes from the word for egypt, but they're not egyptian. They were both used literarily, they are both decried as slurs by some and used as identifiers by others, the comparisons between the two continue, I'm just too lazy to redo them all. I counted them out in Tea's "stop using slurs kthxbai" petition thread.

I'm learning that '********' is a pretty good catch-all replacement, though! biggrin (Though, possibly, that shouldn't be said with a smiley.. XD; )

Maze I never did quite get that whole 'giving someone the key to' bit. "Feel free to come again and do take your time robbing all of us, then! Why, you've got a key! It's practically legal then!" It's a figurative honor. Mt. Vernon is a small town.

TeaDidikai Mt. Vernon is a small town. My European and glaring lack of American geography is showing, isn't it? XD; But okay, that makes more sense, then. 3nodding Quote: I just got tired of the fight. I still fight for the word to not be used, but it's so tiring. Considering the amount of procreation taking place on one hand and the lack of education on (in?) the other.. I can imagine it would be. If it helps, I've taken to hitting people with information when they use the word around me, so.. heart

TeaDidikai I just got tired of the fight. I still fight for the word to not be used, but it's so tiring. I feel that way about a lot of things. I typically go passive about it. On another website I read, it warmed my heart to see a person get called out for being racist against the Roma. Like not just called out in the topic being discussed, but in the actual portion of the website used for grievances.

I counted them out in Tea's "stop using slurs kthxbai" petition thread. Ah! When he read the definition or description of it, he did mention the incorrect assumption of Eqyptian ancestry, which I promptly corrected. If it does come up again, will definitely point out the similarity in the N~ term (being either a way of describing their skin tone, or hailing from Nigeria - both still being inconsistent). A couple of other people in attendance did mention how some people do identify with a word others might consider a slur - I pointed out that they offer that. It is not up to someone outside of who they are to place a racially/ethnically charged word and all the negative stereotypes upon them. TeaDidikai I just got tired of the fight. I still fight for the word to not be used, but it's so tiring. I think what has happened in the meantime though, is that you have educated enough people who start spreading the discontent with the word being used. With that, I see my friends acknowledging my request not to use it and then even telling me about how they corrected another. Maze I had to google three of those. XD; /uneducated. Arizona has quite a few people who are armchair racists. But apparently, it's okay to say these things when no one who they think would get offended is there to hear. Maze I used it in a sentence either here or in a PM Tea's way, and I stared blankly at the screen trying to figure out why it'd be offensive when she told me that word was distasteful to her. /oblivious. XD; A former coworker got irate with a client for using that word while she was attempting to assist her. I was with her and encouraging until after the call she was describing the conversation and used the same word she objected to, in reference to the client. Maze I'm learning that '********' is a pretty good catch-all replacement, though! biggrin (Though, possibly, that shouldn't be said with a smiley.. XD; ) I'm quite happy with the slip ups on me insulting someone, getting very off the wall things that still are so appropriate.

This is, to be honest, something of a charged thread for me. Being a mix of German, Welsh, Irish and Cherokee, and having a Jewish stepmom and stepbrother,I've heard quite a few slurs in my time (not that no one else has), and it still burns me a bit when I hear them (especially either 'k~' word or the other 'n~' word). I try to correct, but like Tea said concerning herself, sometimes the fight is tiring. Nice to know others feel the same.
Btw, forgive, but I myself am a bit clueless on the 'r~' word.
