Lin thought he meant what had happened while he was being patched up, "Alena patched up your shoulder while you were out, but it'll take months to heal and then months more to get it back in working condition, but let's take things one step at a time. Can you get up or do you need help?"

He certainly looked like in a lot of pain, but she had nothing for that. Well she had something but it was for people who's weight did not defy expectation.

Earendil winced and tried to sit up, but the tenseness of his muscles shot pain through his shoulder and he fell to the wagon, bracing himself with his good elbow.

"I think I'm going to need some help," he gasped, his eyes wide. "What happened to me? I- I just remember setting up camp ... and then ... this."

There was a sinking feeling that this was not a good sign from Lin's point of view. She didn't know what happened to cause Earendil to forget the whole incident after that, but apparently he did.

"You were attacked by a large bird after you startled it's owner," she explained, "It torn your shoulder, just the muscles, not the nerves though."

Earendil nodded slowly and tried to sit up again. This time he gritted his teeth through the pain and was successful in sitting up.

"I think I'm going to need a sling," he muttered, shuddering at the weight his arm put on his destroyed muscles. "And who might this owner be? Where would we find someone all the way out here?"

"Well.... that's the curious bit," Lin murmured to Earendil as she picked up the unopened med kit.

She opened it up and rummaged around, her family had learned first hand anything could happen so the med kits were created to prepare for anything. She brought out a large, wide bandage looking thing which could be used for a sling.

"This person is a woman, who does not speak and is blind. Arthael believes she was a girl named Alassea, who the slavers left behind because she was useless to them. Even if she's not, she's lived in these swamps alone for so long that she has trouble communicating. We're going to be speaking in common elvish and see if that helps job her memory any."

Earendil let Lin help him into the sling, his expression thoughtful between winces.

"And what kind of stupidity did I perform to make a blind and mute girl attack me with her pet?" he asked, only half joking. Clearly he had to have done something that was far from brilliant.

"Call out to her," Lin replied, "Yours was probably the first voice she had heard in a long time being addressed to her. Of course under that cloak it was also hard to tell exactly where she was looking. She probably didn't even realize you were in front of her."

Or that Celeb was behind her, or that there was no one to the sides of her. With thinking about it that way, Lin could understand why the woman was startled so badly. Tying the knot on the sling she checked her work, it wasn't something she had to do often.

Earendil let his arm rest in the sling and sighed softly with relief as its weight was taken off his wounded shoulder. "This is going to make things interesting," he smiled softly. Then, with a sudden grin, he quipped, "At least I don't have to worry about sleep, anymore. No more watching for me!"

And it wasn't as if it would increase everyone else's turns; after all they would only have to take every tenth watch now, instead of every eleventh.

Lin laughed at that, she was glad Earendil wasn't down by this, because this was going to be a long recovery period she knew that much.

"Let's get you to the tent, that way if you feel the need to go back to sleep, you'll be asleep in there," she told him.

"Sleep?" Earendil protested, shifting carefully towards the edge of the wagon so that he could stand on the ground. "But I've slept enough! I've just woken up, I don't need to nyuhhh!"

He had tried to stand up, but with his blood loss he was very weak and he would have fallen to the ground completely if he hadn't grabbed at the wagon with his good arm. As it was, he had fallen to his knees and was finding it very difficult to stand up.

He looked up at Lin sheepishly. "Um ... maybe laying down is a good idea," he conceded.

Lin's lips quirked upwards a bit as she bent over and put Earendil's good arm around her shoulder. Even though she was much shorter than he was, at least he could probably use her as a support to getting to the tent.

"Good," she told him as she helped him to their tent, "Otherwise I would have to convince you to rest."

"You could always rest with me," Earendil teased her, putting almost all of his weight on her to make it easier to walk. Hunched over as he was, it was better for his head, since he was a bit closer to the ground. "Where are Miyuki and Andarien?"

Of course, in his memory gap, he'd also forgotten that Andarien had grown.

"I'm right here," Miyuki was suddenly beside her father holding her little brother with both arms.

Though with him being bigger now she couldn't hold him like she use to. Instead she was holding him so he was looking over her shoulder because it was far easier that way than holding him as if he was a new born.

Lin shifted under Earendil's weight but only slightly, he wasn't that heavy and probably she was heavier than he.

"You don't remember Andarien growing neither do you?"

Andarien seemed comfortable enough, with his head on Miyuki's shoulder, fast asleep, and though he was no longer wearing any clothes it didn't seem as if the cooling air bothered him too much either. Either that or he was just plain exhausted.

Earendil stared at their son, amazed by what he saw. At Lin's question, he shook his head slightly, still staring. "I ... wow. Everything happens all at once, doesn't it?" he murmured in wonder.

He stumbled over his own feet and just about fell forward, pulling Lin with him unintentionally.

"Hey," Luk's concerned voice came from behind them. "Do you need another hand?"

Lin had to dig her feet in to keep herself from toppling over. Despite Earendil's lack of weight to put it one way, he was still much taller than she was.

"Actually, now that you mention it, that would be great," Lin replied sheepishly.
