Earendil hugged Miyuki, stroking her back calmingly. He didn't know what to say to that. Lin had to go back home, there was no question of that. She didn't live here, after all, and she couldn't stay just for Miyuki's sake. And he wouldn't try to pressure her to stay either, even though he would love it if she did. It simply wasn't her home.
"I honestly don't know what to do about that," he murmured, trying to pry Miyuki's tail from her mouth.
Haldia entered the room just then, and when she saw Earendil holding Miyuki she watched them silently.

"I didn't think she would react so strongly," Lin murmured.
She was at a lost a bit, what could she do? It was already hard enough to try and explain to Miyuki (who probably didn't really get it) that Earendil lived somewhere else.
Miyuki reluctantly let go of her own tail. Instead she clung to him and babbled, though what she was babbling was anyone's guess. Well some would guess probably not to leave again.

Haldia looked over at Lin. "What will you do when you go home then?" she asked softly. "If this is how she is after just a short while ... and still being in the same place ..."
Earendil kept stroking Miyuki's back, rocking her back and forth gently.

"I don't know," Lin murmured.
What could she do? She knew she would like to stay here, but she wasn't ready for that yet and she was facing the fact that she might not even have Earendil around all the time even if she stayed here.
She wondered how Haldia felt about all of this.

Earendil looked more and more at a loss. He really had no idea ...
"Wait," he murmured, "what about if you got her a doll or something to distract her, like the doll that Ulani gave her when she first tried on the pants?"
That had preoccupied her for a while, kept her mind off the annoyingness of pants.

Lin looked thoughtful at that, she hadn't tought of that. Though she didn't know how well that would work.
"It could work..." she murmured thoughtfully, "To distract her and get her use to the idea..."
Dolls helped her a lot growing up.

"Do you think Ulani's doll will work?" Leyenda asked, hiding a grin. "I mean ... I don't know. Maybe it would be best if it were a new one, one meant specially for her? It might mean more to her that way, and thus pacify her more."
"Either that or you're going to have to let her suck on her tail," Earendil chuckled, petting Miyuki's head softly.

"If possible I would like to get a doll just for her," Lin replied.
After all she had several that were meant just for her, four she could think of off the top of her head. Besides, she didn't want to deal with potential hairballs.
Miyuki for her part was calm now and oddly quiet, but her ears were twitching, because she was listening to Earendil's heart. Good hearing and being close to him did that. For now she was happy, he was back and wasn't going to stay away.

Earendil nodded. "I wonder who would be the best to make it," he murmured.
"Probably best to ask Grandmother," Leyenda suggested. "She would probably know."
Earendil nodded and kept stroking Miyuki's back. She seemed calm now, but he wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to try pass her back to Lin just yet. He turned to Lin. "Shall we?"

"Actually where is Haradhel?" Lin blinked.
One would think with two commotions within the span of half an hour or so would have brought her running. It sounded like she was out. The question was, was where?

"She might be upstairs," Leyenda suggested, "I know this morning she was talking about cleaning and washing the sheets ..."
Earendil nodded and looked at Lin. "Shall we go up and look for her?" he asked.

Door must have been closed and she must have been quite busy. Even for someone who didn't have elven hearing that had been a very loud first word.
"Let's," Lin nodded as she reached out and stroked Miyuki's head.
Miyuki smiled up at her mother and pressed her head against her mother's hand. She was happy now, they were all together and everything was good again.

Earendil nodded and after Lin had petted Miyuki's head he turned towards the door. He headed up the stairs, wondering which floor Haradhel would be on.
"Haradhel?" he called once they reached the second floor.
"Upstairs," came the faint reply.
He nodded. "Higher," he murmured softly to Lin, going up the stairs yet again.

Well that suddenly explained a bit, Lin thought as she followed Earendil up the stairs. She had to admit, she rarely went up this high when it came to being in the Ranch House.

They kept walking upwards, right up to the fourth floor of the house, where Haradhel and Elrohir lived with their family. It was the first time Earendil had been up there as well, and he couldn't help but look around curiously.
"Haradhel?" he called again. "Where are you?"
"First door on the right," she called back. "Arahad's bedroom."
She stuck her head out the door and smiled. "What's up?"
