NimrielArgent LadyJedi Depends on what series. The original series had different color meanings than the newer ones. In the current series: Red - command and navigation Yellow - operations (tactical, engineering, security etc) blue - sciences (medical, counselling, etc) would that be Voyager? (Hee. I love Seven... Chakotay, B'lanna and Harry Kim are my next favs) Yea, Voyager, TNG, DS9 all use that scheme Okay trying to post for Roulette

>Mantanago- Well, that's something we could both work on. Sarcasm is a hard thing to bring out through words.

Holy crap-- Has anyone else been sick as heck this week? My whole house and 3/4's of the workplace were out ill. My job actually sent us all home and shut down for the day-- (If anyone's seen day of the dead --the new crappy version-- i think we're all about to become brain eating ZOMBIES)

Thankfully, I have a Zombie plan.... that aside, I don't have a job, but no one on my end of the world((Who I actually care about)) is sick.

So, I know this has nothing to do with me being sick, but are there any computer whizzes in here? My other computer is acting up, as in, when I click Firefox... or anything for that matter, I get the "Select Preferred Application to Open With" window. What am i supposed to do, open Firefox in Firefox(sarcasm)?
What is worse, all the useful control panel controls are no longer there. So it's obvious my computers dead. Problem is, if the computer is dead, how the heck do I revive it? A system Recovery Disk won't open, and System restore has been deleted of my computer. So there's only one option left to us. Purge the computer and start from scratch.
So with that said, I ask you, How do you unload everything on a computer without primary functions? sad

I'm not a whiz, but I know a little bit. Let me ask a few questions to see if I can help.
1) Are you clicking an icon on your desktop or selecting it from the START menu?
2) Can you access your anti-virus programs? Because, when in doubt, its a virus. If your anti-virus is out of date, I'd recommend getting AVG and Ad aware. They've got free versions you can get that get the most common bugs.
Um.. without more information, that's all I can come up with. Let me know. If I can't figure it out, I have a buddy that I can bounce questions off of.

Well, I'm trying from all access points, Start up and desktop, and directly from the task manager(BTW, I'm now on the downstairs computer). The only time something works is when you tell it to open you tell it to open through itself, which must mean that program and the shortcut are disconnected somewhere along the way. I told Netgear, my wireless internet connection, to open through the program "Netgear", the very same program, and low and behold it worked. Similarly, I told the system restore to open through "system restore" and it worked. And to my chagrin, my only system restore point is the point where my computer started up and downloaded itself some spy ware thinking it was a Windows update.
I'm absolutely sure it's a virus, but all three of my anti-virus programs, McAfee, the Windows firewall, and the XP Anit-spyware program(which I assume is the virus).
For now stuff works, it's just making the links concrete. This is still annoying.

OK, this time I will actually click send before I get kicked off the computer.
You have a better grip on this than me and seem to have everything under control. The only thing I can think of as a (repeated) suggestion is recommending AVG as a backup anti virus. Ad aware is good for spyware removal. A~nd, both are free and get routine updates.
Ok. I'm going to hit send now before I have to get up and do something else... *le sigh*

Sorry I haven't posted. Been coping with the cessation of my current relationship. Not only that, I'm planning on moving again too.
So, y'all might as well forget about me and my character because I won't be back.
It was nice knowing all of you. Except LJ. All she does is waste people's time. Take care of yourselves.
