sup dottie whee
...wait. DOTTIE?! gonk d00d wh4r u b33n
Anyway. So. I'm seriously enjoying the items for this month. I already made a frosty av, and now I kind of want to make a steampunk one. (At least the latter will allow me to use my DT. I surprisingly feel less naked without the tail than I thought I would.)
I also finally ended up buying myself a pora. It's only 3rd gen, but I couldn't resist after seeing the first two gens evolving. whee It only took two hours because Gaia exploded when the letters were opened.
Also: I'm Phoe. gonk (Actually...I kind of am. sweatdrop It takes quite a bit of self-reminding that I'm PG and Phoe is Phoe.)

[rant]
I'll never understand this whole tight-assed "JAPAN IS MORE THAN ANIME, YOU SHOULDN'T JUST GO THERE IF YOU'RE ONLY INTERESTED IN ANIME" thing. Like.. why not? neutral If someone was totally into Mexican disco, they'd most likely eventually go to Mexico to check it out, and no one would say boo. Whether they saw a few sights and other stuff on the side, or just heard some disco and left.. who gives a s**t? confused Why are you supposed to have, like, a degree in a country's culture to be allowed to visit it?

[/rant] If I had to guess, part of it is the perception - right or wrong - that fandom members think that what you see in anime is indicative of Japan. Which is...kind of true - I mean, like, The Sopranos does portray Jersey in some accurate light. Likewise, even Evangelion (which is set...I think 30 or 40 years in the future from its writing, am I right?) has its accuracies in representation - I mean, the pilots go to school and such. On the other hand, I don't believe that in 2030, we'll have an apocalypse based on a bastardization of Christian theology and that giant robots powered by Japanese children who have lost their mothers are our last hope. Likewise, you're not a mobster, and neither am I. sweatdrop I guess the analogy is kind of like if you thought that Florida was Disney and Universal and all that stuff. I mean, it's there, but there's so much more to the state. I'm playing Devil's Advocate a bit, but that's my view.

Hey guild,
What would you guys think about writing an Open Letter to Gaia regarding their recent advertisement activities? I think that some of us agree that Gaia is drifting away from the fans that helped them get where they are, and now they're simply catering to the pre-teen and early teen demographic who beg mommy and daddy to buy them 25 dollar pajama bottoms.
I don't know, I'm pretty upset about the whole thing and I would feel better confronting Gaia about it, and maybe getting some sort of legitimization or response.
Thoughts?

Whether they saw a few sights and other stuff on the side, or just heard some disco and left.. who gives a s**t? confused Why are you supposed to have, like, a degree in a country's culture to be allowed to visit it? [/rant] Because it is rather insulting to reduce an entire nation with quite a history to nothing but its cartoons. That'd be like if I told you I was coming over to dinner just because your mom makes good mashed potatoes... not because I like the potatoes but will also enjoy the turkey, dessert, and the company of you and your parents. It also shows that these fans grossly overestimate the whole of Japan's involvement in anime. Spending that much money and effort to visit a country just to watch raw shows, buy swag, and possibly hit a maid cafe or two is kinda stupid. Lastly, the majority of the people saying they're going to Japan because they like anime don't mean a vacation or a visit... they generally (in more than just my experience) openly state that they're going there to get a job in the manga or anime industries... with no formal schooling, no contacts, and no reason whatsoever as to why they should be hired. They'll end up poor, homeless, and picked up by the Japanese police the instant any signs or rumors of criminal activity pop up in their vicinity. It is fine to go to another country chiefly to pursue one of your interests... but to reduce that country to "the place where something I like happens" and froth at the brain about it... that's where one has to accept scorn.
