"The boys were jousting. it's a very old sport...and brutal enough when you learn it. I take it you boys found out it's not as easy as it looks?"

glancing at the eldest two, and giving a ruffle to his youngest son's ribbon free hair.

"and how often must I say that the toddlers are not living dolls to dress up? or at least if your going to do it, make it easy to undo."

then a glance at Zahara's hand. that didn't happen often. and a look to sevilin.

"then lets enjoy ourselves a meal. and then, afterwards, I'll set up a practice dummy in the arena for jousting, and if you boys want you can go at that without trying to potentially kill each other."

glancing at the eldest two again.

"You do realize that you were risking your lives, correct? the run speed of a horse combined with that kind of impact can injure internal organs and break bone. and yes, I am mentioning it in front of your mothers because you both know that I could have, and sevilin could I'm sure, supplied you with a much safer means to learn to joust properly."

That was Malik's version of lecture punishment. tell your mother what could have happened, and let them eat you alive.

"Not going to convince you otherwise, am I? And no, something better than what I can make, though I do appreciate your like of my lack of cooking skill." Shaking his head in some amusement as he had herded his kids to the dinner table, setting Kel in his chair and getting the baby something to eat that he would actually eat. Though a questioning look to his eldest son at Malik's explaination. "Couldn't find a better way other than jostling your insides all up." Casting a look to Zahara but not saying anything, or grabbing a plate yet. Just sitting back in his chair.

A chuckle to Faate. "We don't play, we train." Smug grin before digging into his food, eating like his father did after all. Though he about choked on his food as his father tried to make things worse. He had a knack for howing how to do it, didn't he? He grinned at his mother. "We were wearing chainmail?"

"And your father was wearing armor last time he jousted and got his arm popped out of socket." Among other things, but she wasn't going to mention that, didn't like to remember it. "If you're going to joust, you're not going to just do it. You're going to do it the right way. And tournament is in a week, if you aren't up to par to joust by your father's standards, you aren't jousting." Not that she thought he wouldn't...she just didn't like the thought.

He giggled at getting his hair ruffled before grabbing hold of his father's hand a moment, letting it go to pick at the food left on his mother's plate. After all, he was hungry too but he didn't care what plate it came off of.

"He wanted to surprise and impress with his sudden skill? I just got to be the one who helped take a crack at it." Digging into his own food though he shot a covert glance at his mother. She wasn't pleased but he wasn't sure if that was because of him, his father or a combination of the two. "He wants to be tournament champ and get the prestige that goes along with it."

"Probably many more times, Uncle Malik. At least until Dhairiss doesn't let me do it anymore, which probably won't ever happen." Giving a cute little grin before she looked at Dhairiss. "You like to play with me, right?"

"Same difference," she said rolling her eyes and taking to her own food. "You get bruised up either way." But a frown at certain words she didn't know and she tilted her head. "So it's a competition. Like Kariel's races?" Beginning to get excited as she thought about it. "And anyone can compete right? Can I?"

She was quiet for a moment before glancing over each of her children in turn. "Don't do that again, Zykariel. Mangling yourself to help your friend is admirable but to do so when you don't have to is just plain stupid. You aren't stupid, despite what you'd often have certain teachers believe." She didn't move, just raised an eyebrow at Sevilin. "Grab a plate. You need to eat." And Faate decided to tempt, well fate, and she glared at the older boys. "See what the two of you started? No, you can't."

There was green on his tray. He didn't like green at all. He pushed it off to the side and then blinked as the beans went right over the side of his tray and onto the floor. Leaning over, he glanced at them and then turned back to his tray and started eating his chicken pieces. Wanting to be involved he held one up and called out. "Daddy dead buggy."

Malik gave a light grin.

"Popped a shoulder out of socket, dislocated a knee once falling off. but that was a long time ago, before here. there's a thousand ways to get hurt jousting. won't say that it's not fun, but accident prone indeed."

before looking at Faete and Zahara.

"this year they are sponsoring non-combat competitions, like Piper's archery. several magical and studious ones. In fact I think Malikhai's illusions teacher has entered herself in competition. So it's not entirely off-limits to people that don't fight, or to younger people who's parents don't want them to be involved in more brutal competitions."

a devious little grin.

"In fact, Zykariel signed himself up for conjuration competions and a potion making one."

A glance at the boy.

"you really need to learn to read everything that your told needs a signature. I personally sent to your school the documentation, filled it out myself. all it needed was a signature, which you gave without looking or complaint simply because your teacher said the papers needed it."

finishing off some more food. he was sure to hear about this from Zahara.

"you assumed it was some form for the teacher's records. lesson learned, eh?"

He was kneeling in front of an altar, done in gold with a bowl under a crown held up by two hands, plantlife growing all aroudn the edges and vines on the pillar base. the bowl was filled with shimmering water, and in that was a single lit candle.

"Mother of All, Goddess of Growth, your humble servant asks your guidance. the Tier'dal called by some who survived that fateful battle the butcher of bloody kitchor, whom I myself thought to have struck down..is here."

pausing a moment, gathering his thoughts.

"I have come to this new place to hunt him down, to avenge those that he so brutally killed. My wife, however, has found that he has form an empire of his own, and has had children with a Fier'dal woman. the monster within him, from my own gatherings, seems to be laying dormant for now. hidden under noble trappings."

"I ask your guidance. To think a Tier'dal can be changed by marriage or children is useless. the children of Hate can never throw off that need to do thier Father's dark will. I have entered a competition here, in which I may face him, or his son. I ask that if I do in this coming week...your hand will guide my sword, and your wisdom will shine through my actions. Praise to you, Mother of All."

Before he got up, and gothimself dressed in his clothes, kissing his sleeping, or so he thought, wife...before going out to get them both something to eat.

His wife opened her eyes not a handful of seconds after thier inn door closed, and moved gracefully to the alter as well. gathering up some of the water and rinsing her face with it, patting herself dry with a towel and taking her turn at the altar.

"Mother of All. I ask you to help my husband. To remind him that the sword is not always the solution, to let his virtues not be sullied in vengence and anger. I don't know what my love saw at Kithcor, as I fought in Highpass to defend the people from the will of Innoruuk. but what he saw has darkened his heart. it is a heavy burden. I hope that you will help him to bear it a little longer, and that he won't drown this burden in the blood of an innocent, despite his father's sins."

She got up, and took to cleaning around their inn room. She hoped indeed that those two didn't meet in this tournament. her husband would not be light handed, but that was the nature of the competition. what she feared was the idea he might use the son to send a message to the father. the kind of message that is only sent through overused violence and utter brutality.

"Not hungry, I'll eat later." Oh he could just sense the tension well up at the table as one child was told no and the other was more or less told he was forced to enter. Frankly he was tired of it. Pushing Zykariel wasn't going to help anything, holding back Faate wasn't going to help anything either. And it was a battle of wills that involved Zahara and Malik to which he knew without a doubt that it was a powder keg waiting for a match. Well...not this time. It was going to be one of those rare moments that he was going to speak up, damn it.

"Zykariel, despite what papers you may have signed and what not, you're still a child and I can still have final say on what you do and do not do. If you don't want to participate then I'll pull you and you can make as big as an upset show that you want." Glancing a look to Malik on that one before a look to his eldest daughter. "Though Malik does have a point, tournament isn't all brute strength, if Faatallon wants to enter into a less lethal form of competition, I think she should take a crack at it. Would do her well as training...she can only express but so much of her natural power against school mates." Reaching over and brushing a hand through Kel's hair in the 'I'm paying attention' motion to the child. "Yes it is dead."

Piper sighed and rolled her eyes. They were all going to start again weren't they? Sometimes she thought it was just best to stick to their own kids. Though yes a surprised blink as Sevilin spoke up to contridict both Zahara and Malik on decisions that had seemingly been decided, wasn't like him but she supposed it was him coming to the same conclusion. They didn't all need to be squabbling anyway, there were worse things going on in the house right now. "Sevilin has merit in his idea, I have to say that." Before turning her look to her eldest. "I mean it, you can train but don't just invent ways to do it. There are people who can teach you without you risking your head getting knocked off your shoulders." Gestureing to Malik, "Prime example right there. You may be wearing armor to tournament, but sometimes you have to worry about being banged around inside it rather than being banged around in general."

He sighed at reprimands and even his father's warning...before rolling his eyes as his father pushed Zykariel. He was always pushing Zykariel. Sometimes it was like Malikhai had an older brother for real. And then it seemed the adults all wanted to go to bat with one another. A shrug at his friend's words though. "My ego tells me to try and champ the tournament but I don't think I'll get a shot at that. Been looking into it and I have to first best several rounds of sword and the like before I have to do joust and hope all combined points get me what I want. Would be cool though if I got that far up, wouldn't it?" But a nod to his mother. "Noted, we'll just have to make sure I have good armor, won't we."

He was happy to munch on the roll that he had taken from his mother's plate. Pulling it off in little pieces and eating them down, all the while glancing between all the adults. A grin to Lyssie though, "Yes!"

"All of them are going to tournament at week's end?"

"Seems so."

"That's making it too easy...or too hard rather. Depends on how all goes over and who's left in charge."

"I can give you a good guess as to who."

:Well then...I don't think we'll have too much to worry about. Now get back to looking harmless...suspicion is not a good thing."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 1:46 pm

Lyssie gave a smug grin to Malik. "See. He likes it." Then turning back to her food since there were other things going on at this moment in time.

Faate had been expecting her mother to be against it but she'd figured it would be better to try than not. Her father gave her a bit of hope though, and her head lifted and she stared at him in awe. "Really? I'd just compete in the lower magical events, Mama. Nothing that I couldn't handle and I'm the best in my class. Please?"

Zahara glared at Sevilin and gestured for a plate to be set in front of him. He knew how she felt about his 'eat later' excuse. And now Malik was getting involved which was only alright in small doses. And then Sevilin went and undermined her which only pissed her off. "No, she can't. Regardless, she can't do it."

"I can too do it, Mama!"

Zykariel sat back in his chair at Malik's announcement and frowned. He vaguely remembered signing a form that affirmed the minor bouts of trouble he'd gotten into were confessed and he'd been punished for them. At least in their version. Obviously his teacher had been serious when he'd mentioned that all of his students were welcome to enter the tournament for practice and should seriously consider doing so. His father got a rather surprised glance, almost appreciative. He actually wasn't going to push him to remain in the tournament? And just because that thrilled him so much, he decided to lend out a helping hand. "I think Faate could handle it, Mom. She's been getting better and better against me even."

Why weren't they listening to her? She said no and that meant no. Sevilin wasn't eating, the others were trying to go against her wishes and change her mind. Glancing at her children, she shook her head. "We'll talk about this later but don't be surprised if you aren't competing." Standing, she left Kelligrin where he was, ruffling his hair and tapping his tray. "You need to eat a few more bites, baby." Grasping Sevilin's tunic, she translocated them both to their room at Twilight. Previous fights could be pushed aside when it came to the safety of her children. "What the hell are you thinking?!"

A glance was given to his plate before he more or less turned his attion back to the table. Yup, here they went, all was going to be difficult and yelling. Then again, that had started before they had even got here. He blinked at the sudden change of venue and merely crossed his arms lightly, settling a stoic look on his wife. "What do you mean what the hell am I thinking? Shouldn't I be the one asking you that? One kid wants out, the other wants in. What's the harm in that?"
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 3:17 pm

Malik gave s light grin when Zahara took Sevilin away, and put five steel pieces on the table.

"Five steel says when they get back she'll concede that Faete can compete in Zykariel's place."

Zykariel chuckled and shook his head. "I'd take that bet but I doubt they're coming back."

To keep herself from repeating him in a shriller tone, she paused. "Maybe her age. She's too young and inexperienced to go against others that can butcher her. And before you say it, I know she's powerful and I know she won't be taking on anyone in a physical setting but she's spent more time focusing on runes than developing her other magical abilities and she can't rune in this competition unless they completely changed the rules." She mimicked his actions crossing her arms and shook her head. "What if she goes up against someone that is more powerful or more skilled than she is and she gets hurt? Elves can die in these competitions, Sevilin. They aren't all just fun and games! And I really don't appreciate you undermining me in front of the children like that!"
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 4:36 pm

"We both know you're right, where't the fun in the bet. Besides, I can make five steel by making him smile." Jerking a thumb to Zykariel.

She only shook her head and rolled her eyes. "Can we not gamble in front of the little ones, let alone the fact that you two shouldn't be doing it either." Grabbing the napkin next to her plate and going about wiping at her youngest's face which was messy now of course. "Malik why don't you go take the boys to train before you let them get some rest?" At least it would let him get some yelling out and the boys could have their fun.

"The whole of the tournament is not unregulated free for all. The type of thing she wants to do is perfectly appropriate for her age and what she can indeed do. If she's not good enough, she'll be knocked out of competition soon enough. You're not even willing to give her a chance...and I dare say I don't take lightly to you not protesting against Zykariel, but you do against Faatallon." Shaking his head lightly. "You undermine me all the time, so I wouldn't play that particular card. Your underminding just happens to focus on one child."

A grin to his wife.

"you heard the lady. boys, and girls if you wish to watch, head down to the arena. we'll set up for jousting training. Zykariel, go to the armory and get yourself some of the guard's armor, and Malikhai, you know where your armor is down there. and we'll get you both a pair of real lances, see how well you do."

giving his wife a kiss on the cheek, and lightly brushing her ear.

"And you make sure you get a good meal in."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 5:12 pm

"You can get far more than that and you know it." Zykariel groaned. Did they have no idea how much his body hurt? And why precisely were they practicing again when they'd just beat each other practically bloody out in the front yard. But he finished off his third plate and then headed down to armory getting a bit of help to put on the armor that he felt far too weighted down in and making his way to the arena. "You better be thanking me every day for the rest of your life for this, Khai."

"It may be appropriate but I still don't want her doing it. Sh'es too young and not experienced enough and I don't want her to fail and think herself no longer good enough. Just because she has the power doesn't mean she has to compete especially since one can dodge another's power with skill she hasn't had time to obtain." She glared at him for a moment and then shook her head, "I don't want Zykariel participating either but if he really wants to, he's old enough to try. He doesn't want to and you took care of that yourself adn don't you dare go pull that undermining card with me." Stepping up so she was toe to toe with him. "When you are being unreasonable about his racing, I step in. You do the same with Kelligrin. But telling her that she could without even asking me just makes me the bad guy and I hate being such."

She ducked her head to the side some as his hand brushed over her ear, both in wanted and unwanted attention. Well damn it. One of his subtle little reminders about things. "I will...and don't work those boys to death. Give them a good hour or so then let them fall into bed and not be able to move." Turning her attention to Dhairiss. "You my little one, need a bath however." A glance to the remaining Inthara's at the table. "What do you all intend to do?"

Didn't take much to get him motivated, as much as he did hurt hell he had to train if he was going to place anywhere decent in this thing. A smirk at his friend, giving him a playful shove. "Consider it payback for being your book keeper. Besides, you got out of tournament, you should be happy. And unless you want to see me in the dirt, you're doin it because you do really care, deep down inside somewhere." Definately his mother's humor there. "Besides, you heard mom. We won't be at it long. But tomorrow, oh tomorrow."

"Remember, you are the one doubting her and assuming that she will doubt herself. One must fail to better themselves." If anyone knew that, the two of them probably would. He knew he would at least. Sevilin merely tilted his head down as she stepped up to him, not moving from his own position. He didn't cower to her, never had despite her trying to make him when she felt she was losing. "You let Zykariel race without my consent and we both know how dangerous that can be. Yet I still get no say, even if my annoyance is reasonable." He inched his face closer to hers in his own form of getting the point across. "Do not think I will let you climb on your pedestal and let everything happen your way and on your word."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 5:41 pm

"We'll give Kelli a bath!" Lyssthyren was quick to pipe up. "He needs one too, see what a mess he is."

Indeed the child had grease and chicken skin all over his fingers and then had rubbed it into his hair with a happy smile. "Bath!" Yes, he liked his baths unlike his brother who would do anything to get out of them.

She knew the value of failure but didn't want her children to. She'd much rather they go through life and only deal with such things when they were old enough to handle them in a mature way. And she was trying to take away all those things that had so shaped her own childhood. "Everytime we disagree you bring that up. I'm not on a pedestal, I just don't think she's old enough or experienced enough to compete. And I don't want to argue about Zykariel's races right now, Sevilin. This is about Faate. Why are you all for this? Are you trying to prove something to yourself, to her, or to me?"

"Mm, yes he is. Well then, I think baths would be next on the agenda." Much to Dhairiss' both horror and delight...he had mood swings when it came to baths. PIcking up her own and perching him on a hip, she walked over and picked up Kelligrin, perching him on the other. "Alright then, come on girls. Faate, I'm sure there's no need to worry about your parents' discussion. Things have a tendency of working out."

"Because everytime we disagree everything has to start going by your way and your decree and nothing else will do. Tell me I'm wrong." He narrowed his eyes slightly. "If I wanted to prove something to myself, or her, or you for that matter I would personally enter tournament, now wouldn't I? If you recall, I have paid my literal price in flesh when it comes to proving things and I need not prove anything to anyone anymore." Still holding his ground on his own convictions just as she was. "Do tell me, I'm sure you remember...what happens when all you are told is no?"
