Everybody prefers the Iron Warriors. They're the Chaos Flavor (Flavour?) of the Weak. Which is unfortunate, because they're such a naturally flavorful Legion. whee

At least for the undedicated, for dedicated chaos it seems World Eaters just has some zest in it that attracts people.

I think they both need some onion powder.

Oh, don't worry, I'm quite good at exploiting natural flavor.
Can't help it if I like firepower, firepower, and more firepower.

Besides, the whole Iron Hands style bionic limbs and heads and stuff is really cool.

-Gotta love the Bathelmets, though.

Where I'm at I see a LOT of Khorne. Usually played badly.

Thats because many Khorne pplayers let their Bezerkers play them instead of the other way around.

They're popular because their list is goddamn broken. The ability to take 9xObliterators and four Heavy Support choices, with the ability to take a Bassy or a Vindicator is just wrong. And don't forget the other stuff they get; servo arms and Siege Specialists. The fact that they're limited to one Fast Attack doesn't matter; you've got so many points in Heavies and Elites you wouldn't have room for a FA choice. Plus, who's going to live through the hail of fire or raining pie-plates from all that heavy fire anyway?

Ive seen assault oriented armies pull it off. Not too different from other shooty armies.

Demon princes are firemagnets. I had one, and gave it demonic flight to pull the right counter, but even then, I only ever used it to mop up, not counter

So for the very first time in 40k, I'm actually excited to build the basic troops of an army, instead of just taking what I have to in order to get "big and shiny". So I thought I'd experiment with what I can get:

2000 points exactly

Host of Acradius
Word Bearers Dark Apostle... 189 points
1x Lord w/ MC Accursed Crozius/BP, Frags, Krak, MoCU, Infiltrate, D.Essence, D.Mutation, D.Resilience, D.Strength

Word Bearers Crusader Squad... 227 points
8x CSMs w/ BP/CCW, 1x Flamer, 1x Meltagun, Frags, MoCU, Infiltrate

he cant be shot in close combat, and he can use terrain to block incoming fire (and vehicles too), and his mere presenc sometimes stop assaulters from closing

With Word Bearers, you're not taking advantage of their only real benefit. Daemons, and lots of them.

I've recently started playing Word Bearers, and I eventually want to have more daemons that I have men.

But anyway, four squards of Space Marines is good, but you might want to take one of them out a get a couple squads of Daemons.

Honestly, I wouldn't consider daemons the Word Bearers' strength, but rather the nine troops choices. As an aside, I hate daemons. CSMs are a better value overall, much more fun to convert, and I can have nine squads of them.

Eventually, I'll pick some daemons up once I can convert some models for them that aren't horrid. wink
