DarkElf27 Am I crazy, or are they charging the same amount for a 5-man repackaged box of Dire Avengers that they did for the 10-man squad before? stare Would not be surprised. It is GW. No one has a Wraithknight at my LGS, but I do have a Crimson Hunter. Anti-Air/Anti-Tank, but easy enough to blast out of the air with Skyfire weapons, Flyers, or just enough damn S 4-5 shots due to that 10 all around armor, and no access to vehicle upgrades. Man, do I want the new Holo-fields for them.

Holo-fields would help it a lot. But at least it can be bs5 and theoretically stay on the board for a long time due to vector dancer

Awfully gloomy for someone who hasnt faced flyers yet. xp It can only be hit on 6s and with skyfire and there arent many armies that have those options yet, not unless you buy terrain with a weapon or buy an expensive unit upgrade for those lucky armies that have access to skyfire weaps. How many guns does it have? What is it really good at? ninja

The Crimson Hunter comes with a Pulse laser and two brightlances.
Against flyers, all Crimson Hunters re-roll all armor penetration rolls that do not cause a glancing or penetrating hit.
Crimson Hunter Exarchs are BS5, can make precision shots, and canexchange the brightlances for starcannons for free.

But it does good against other armor, and if you exchange the bright lances for star cannons you've got some decent infantry mowing down power. While still keeping the pulse laser for anti armor and flyers

If someone were to use it, they would need to have their ground troops support it just as it would support them.

I've used the Hunter, and from my experience, it is best used with the Autarch's +1 or -1 to reserves special rule to PREVENT it from coming on the board until the enemy's fliers have arrived, and then using Vector Dancer with its full 36" movement to stay behind the enemy fliers.

It's worth pointing out that post-6th flyer releases have for the most part been less sturdy and more fragile when it comes to armour stat-wise. They get great abilities in return, but I only see this as a fair trade-off for what they can do on the table. The only big and nasty one to come forth from this is the Heldrake with 12-12-10, but seeing as it is a daemonic engine more than anything, it makes sense that it has a load of armour.
The other big flyer releases are just like the Eldar flyers not that well armoured: Dark Angel Nephilim-Darktalon 11-11-11 Tau Shark fighter-bomber 11-10-10
This in contrast with say, the Valkyrie, the first flyer kit released, back then, as a fast skimmer: 12-12-10 and extra armour!
Looking at the stats, rules and points for the Crimson Hunter, I would say that it is a niche aircraft designed to be a dedicated interceptor tooled towards that task more than anything. The Exarch upgrade is not really worth it in most scenarios, not unless you're facing a flying circus or an army depending on two or more flyers to get around, in which case I'd gladly pay the extra points for the BS upgrade.
And as RagingBluMunky said, pairing it with an Autarch is a great idea, as you want the Crimson Hunter to do what it does best.
