But Miyuki wanted him now, why wasn't he here when everyone else was? She didn't understand, he wasn't here. She was taken inside for being 'bad' and he wasn't here.
Maybe because she had been bad....
Suddenly there was a sniff.
Lin froze for a moment and looked down, sure enough. Miyuki was sniffing, and looking like a kicked puppy dog. She had never ever seen Miyuki look like that.

Amalirahc was astonished. He hadn't even touched her! But still he felt guilty somehow. He looked up at his father, who simply stared back. He had never seen Miyuki cry before ... ever.
Amalirahc dropped the blocks and stepped closer to Miyuki.
"Ki?" he said, holding his arms wide. He looked at his father for a moment, then looked back at Miyuki and tried to hug her.

Some how the mantra of: She doesn't cry.... She doesn't cry... She doesn't cry... Didn't seem to be working all that well. It was a terrible sinking feeling when the day that Miyuki cried was the day that she couldn't find Earendil.
Yet there Miyuki was, heaving as if she was trying to get something out. She quivered her lips, she looked up at her mother with shiny eyes and finally after much heaving she yelled out one simple world.
"DIL!"
The irony was not lost on Lin, never mind the fact she didn't know the first thing about how to make her child stop crying.

Amalirahc flinched at the shout, and, thinking she had said something akin to "don't", he stopped trying to hug her and instead ran back to Kelirahc, holding his hands up to him to be picked up.
Kelirahc set his son on his knee and held him close. This was indeed a strange situation.
"Would you like me to go out and see if I can find them?" he offered to Lin over Miyuki's wails.

Lin was at a lost as she picked up Miyuki and tried to get her to stop crying.
"Please," Lin replied desperately.
Honestly she hadn't been expecting it, and now she feared going home, because honestly she wasn't sure if this was normal.

By this time, Leyenda headed into the playroom to see what had happened, fearing that perhaps Amalirahc had extracted some sort of revenge for earlier. But when she saw that Kelirahc was comforting Amalirahc, she was at a loss.
"What ..."
Kelirahc held Amalirahc out to her, rising from his chair. "I'm going to find Haldia and Earendil," he told her briefly. "I will return shortly."
He kissed her forehead and ran for the door, leaving her behind and looking very confused. She turned to Lin, looking very lost.

"Miyuki couldn't find Earendil," Lin explained a bit at her wits end because no amount of back rubbing or bouncing or whatever other tricks she had seen adults use seemed to be working.
"Dil! Dil! Dil!"
And Lin was going to have to teach Miyuki how to say Earendil's name because it was making her think of dill pickles.

"Oh, I think he and Haldia went for a walk," Leyenda said without thinking. "Something about the first snowfall, and it being particularly pretty ..."
She giggled suddenly. "Of course, you already knew that. That's why Kelirahc is going to find them for you."

Somehow it sounded quite romantic, and somehow Lin thought this wasn't helping with her stress levels. Oddly enough she was more stressed about that, than Miyuki crying though at this point Miyuki was crying and hiccuping so it wasn't as urgent as it had been a couple of minutes ago.
"Yea, I didn't expect this kind of blow up."

"Ah, well," Leyenda smiled, sitting in Kelirahc's chair. "You know, it's probably good for her. After all, if you're going to be going back home, she's going to have to get used to life without him, since I'm fairly certain he can't go with you."
Though everything she was saying was true, she was watching Lin for her reaction. Why? Because it was interested, the reaction she'd gotten simply by mentioning that Earendil and Haldia had gone for a walk together. Was it jealousy that she saw on Lin's face?

Apparently separation wasn't just good for Miyuki, it was good for Lin too, because she had forgotten that part. Which was silly when she thought about it because it was only natural that once she went home it would just be her and Miyuki.
Her, Miyuki and her family she corrected herself.
"That's true," Lin replied softly bouncing Miyuki a bit more, "The time difference would be too much."
Both a blessing and a curse really. Everyone around her were older than her, which was way less awkward if she became physically older than everyone else she grown up with as a child had there been no time difference.

Leyenda watched Lin thoughtfully. Sometimes Lin's expressions were clear as day, and sometimes her thoughts were just plain hidden ... and she couldn't help but be curious.
"Lin," she said softly, slowly, "do you-"
But before she could say anything else, the front door opened and Earendil ran into the room, breathless.

"Dil!" Miyuki squirmed in Lin's arms and held out waving arms towards the man who everyone in the room (up until he walked in) had been thinking about.
Lin didn't even bother to wonder what Leyenda was about to ask, at the moment she as focus on getting Miyuki to stop freaking out. Even though she had calmed somewhat, though was still miserable in Lin's opinion.

Earendil shed his cloak, letting it fall to the floor, and held his hands out to Miyuki, taking her from Lin. His expression was one of anxiety and confusion. What had happened?
"Is she all right?" he asked, not quite realizing that her first attempt at speech was his own name. "What happened?"

If it weren't for the fact Lin found it unsettling that her child was crying for the first time, Lin would have laughed at the strangeness of the situation. Well that and she had no idea what she was going to do once she had to go home.
"She couldn't find you."
It sounded like a bit of a silly reason, except Miyuki was clinging to Earendil, murmuring his name as she began to suck on one of her tails.
Damn, Lin thought the last growth cured her daughter of that habit.
