Watari hails not from Konoha but from the continent opposite Kirigakure, in a small village on the northern continent. His home was a wartorn region constantly begetting wars and fierce battles and oceans of bodies lay throughout the land. He began training as a ninja at age 5 and made his first kill after taking an injury to his left eye. The man he had slain was a member of the Uchiha clan, so Watari's eye was replaced with his own. After learning of his past he left his home and joined Konoha, the land of his forefather Kakashi. He was then introduced to a young genin named Jurei who took him under his wing and granted him the sword of his lost brother, the Benzaiten as proof of his apprenticeship.
Upon his rise to jounin he took Mikoto Namikaze as his apprentice and continued his search for a rogue ninja Seisui Senju which led him to the moon festival. There the Master-Student duo met with Qastor and Sana Okazi to discuss their findings. Moments later war broke out. Watari was ambushed on his way to assist Qastor and took his Oil-using enemy down swiftly. He has been staying with Sana ever since as a guard to ensure they make a full recovery.
