Dr. Fomite AzurePaleSky That's good advice, thank you! Especially about the additional stress... hmmm... I'm hoping doing a little traveling will help me see what I want to do. Even if I stay in this general area, I'll probably have a hard enough time transitioning. Yeah, traveling around a bit may help. Although, I don't mean to sound like a downer, but I wouldn't expect short trips to predict too much. I say this because I tend to get the feeling, from reading things, that you're generally coming from a pretty similar palace as myself emotionally, and particularly in terms of depression.
For me, short trips tend to be a lot like the very first phase after a move. It's very exciting and stimulating with lots of new things to do and see, and I'm so distracted by everything that it's a really good time. But the short trips end before it gets to the second phase after a move, which is when the depression tends to set in, at least for me. Usually that sets in after a few weeks or maybe even a month or two.
At the very least, if the traveling you do in your time off is stressful, then I'd be pretty concerned at how hard it's going to be to adjust to a new location on top of grad school. On the other hand, if you really end up enjoying it, then maybe things will work out great in a new setting. heart I'd just be cautious jumping into something like that. Grad school's a lot of work and stress by itself and it's really helpful to have a good support network in place when starting something like that. *snuggles up to Mala* heart I'll see how things are traveling, then! How are things working in your new home? Does it still feel new? On a completely unrelated note, I just lit a little tea candle under some oil, because I thought that's what people are supposed to do, but I wasn't sure what'd happen, and how the oil scent would spread, if it would at all. ... and it's evaporating!!! It smells so good... pine smell! I need more oils now. whee

I only occasionally remember that I can actually change things the way I want. xd
Most of the time, though, it feels good here. For a while it just felt like living in somebody else's house. Now I just find that every so often I notice something that needs repair and I think, "Geez, I can't believe they let that go on..." Then it suddenly jars me into remembering that this place actually belonged to somebody else. XD I guess it's good that it has to be an afterthought now.
Oooh, nice. X3 I wish I could have things like that, but I worry with the cats. I'd like more nice smells... *sniffs Rachel* heart

AzurePaleSky Hey guys... so I plan on taking the next school year off to live back at home/save money/ travel, and then apply for graduate school. I don't know if I should apply for school in southern California and thus stay here, or if I should go out elsewhere. I have people telling me both things... saying that I need to experience what it's like elsewhere, and then others telling me to stay here. I just think it'd be hard moving to a place where I didn't know anyone. I'd be afraid of not being able to connect with anyone and then getting depressed (like I was when I first came to college here). So anyway, I'm wondering what your experiences have been with moving away from everyone you know and such or staying at home and what you'd recommend! I know it depends on the person and all that. Also, I think it's a big difference if you're moving with your partner or to your partner, which as of now I'm not. Maybe that'll change and I'll be whisked away, but until then... who knows! I would want to apply to grad schools where the research/professors excited me. I would take into account where it was though as how well you work is related to how you can stand the different environment. I love Southern California/Los Angeles area more than anywhere else I've ever lived, so I would want to stay but that's just me. It was quite a culture shock when I moved up here and there are still many issues I have with the way things work. I have always moved because I wanted a change, though the last move was in part to escape a job that had sadly gone sour so at least there was that good point to moving. If you like where you live, I don't see any need to change though... but don't let it bar you from a great grad program. At the very least, afterwards if you want to return, you could easily job search out of the area by staying with family or friends.

Suyo http://www.gaiaonline.com/profiles/9705079/ What are the goggles this dude has? Clicking them on his equiped items won't tell me... Gaia insists that the item doesn't exist. Syaoran's Goggles, they were one of the Tsubasa DVD quiz items. It's probably still up. http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/announcements/tsubasa-volume-3-now-on-dvd-score-a-free-item/t.30215179/
