Dr. Fomite Shoujo Phoenix I thought family was supposed to support you but I guess not.
The GRE really is one of those things that's almost impossible to study for. You can't possibly anticipate all the things they could feasibly throw at you. Either way, I can't believe she could accuse you of not studying adequately just because you didn't waste money on a book. (I did get a book for mine. It was given to me for free, or it would've been a money waster, believe you me. Frankly, I found the online resources much more accurate and helpful.) It does sound particularly stinging that she's so much more willing to accept your brother's failure over you getting a score that can still get you where you need to go, when he hasn't accomplished nearly what you have. confused
Echoing Justin, though. Whatever the blood relations say, the AG family is always proud of you. heart Amazing Shouj is amazing.
Talking with Rachel's family and friend made me feel a lot better yesterday. They're people who are actually in the situation I am where they are about to go into grad programs and such and said the GRE is no walk in the park.

Phoenix Goliathane That's seriously...really horrible. gonk I'm not necessarily with Stream in advocating that you just exclude your aunt from your ceremonies, but...you know, you should tell her that what she said really hurt you. Sometimes, people don't realize how hurtful the things they say are. And it might just be the way your family is. I know that, with my family, post-secondary education is still a big thing, especially on my mom's side. (My dad's side has a few people that went to grad school, I think.) It sounds like part of it is that it's just routine to her, so she didn't think twice about cutting you down. But if it's special to you, then no one has the right to take that away, even if they're loved ones. I honestly am really proud of what you accomplished. You were in...like, community college when the AG first started, and now you're going to grad school? Anyone should be proud of that.
A BIG part of the issue now, I think, is that she's been listening to a lot more Dr. Laura lately. Dr. Laura is a physical biologist and not really trained in giving people advice. Also, she's giving quick fix tough love solutions to strangers who call in. That's how I feel like I'm being treated and it feels like s**t to say the least.

While it may seem like my aunt was being the biggest b***h in the world, I admire her as a very intellectual person...and she really is. Book skills she has, but I think she severely lacks when it comes to dealing with people. She's pretty fun to talk to and a very hilarious person and I love having her in my life. That's the only reason why words like that from her hurt me so much. I mean, if someone else were to tell me that in my family besides her and my mom, I would have that "screw you" attitude and brush it off my shoulders no problem.
I guess those two are just older and more stuck in their ways and views of the world and how it works. Of course they're going to hold the experience card over me and buy into assuming that I'm naive and young and that I think everything should be handed to me or just simply work out for me.
They think I'm more immature than I really am and I find it terribly unfortunate that they do see me like that. But it's ironic since at the same time they seemingly expect perfection from me and anything below that makes me an absolute idiot.

Besides, regardless of what your family says or thinks, just know that we are here for you and we are very proud of your accomplishments. You and I went through highschool together and I have to say that I am personally very proud of everything you've done since then. You've matured a lot (can't really say the same for myself) and you are definitely going somewhere in life. I'm really excited for you. 3nodding heart

Shouj: *sigh* Families are funny things. I think it's more like you said... they don't see the studying and hard work, so obviously it didn't happen. rolleyes (Pics or it didn't happen?)
I (a person not related to Shouj) am totally and throughly impressed with your grades. I only got on the Dean's List once and I sure as hell wasn't trying for a degree as high as yours. I think you do a very impressive amount of work for your degree. That you're going to get it ahead of time is doubly impressive. I know I couldn't.

And thank you. It's nice to know other people are proud of me crying heart I think what really kept me getting good grades in college and such was making myself proud of myself. I always am and that's a big thing that's changed for me over the years.

Peppermint Elf I am totally addicted to Dunkin Donut's maple creme donut. O.M.G. So damn bood. (Krispy Kreme is ok, but the only branch here went out of business. I guess it wasn't that popular. sweatdrop ) It's weird, a lot of Krispy Kremes seem to be disappearing nowadays. I know of 3 in the diverse regions of California that I frequent that have closed and become something else. I have an inkling this has something to do with the current health/organic craze and people not wanting to get fat eating so many donuts. Other chains don't seem to be suffering much that I've noticed though... I do miss my Krispy Kremes though. I refused to go to the one in Japan (and wait in an hour-plus line) because I thought I'd be able to get them when I came back home...totally didn't happen. emo I LOVE cake donuts. The Mister Donuts in Japan had a seasonal green tea cake donut last winter/spring that was just too delicious. They also had one that was half-dipped in chocolate. Green tea/chocolate cake donut = super yummy.

On the backlog subject of donuts; everyone seemed to think Krispy Kreme ones were like the best. I tried them before and I didn't taste any difference between other donuts. In fact, I have a tendency to enjoy the mom and pop donut places more than chain donut places. rofl

I listened to her a bit on a loooonnnng drive with my family, and she was giving out crazy advice that seemed bad to me. And a month or so ago I saw a Dr. Laura marriage advice book on cd, and I told my parents that they'll definitely have more problems if they listen to that! But they don't listen to me. crying
