It was a quiet ride back home at least for her. She had Kelligrin in her lap and Zykariel beside her since he had Destyny around. Sevilin had taken the girls and translocated. It hadn't surprised her to find the younger girl in her room when she got back home, since she'd thrown a fit yet again. Faatallon had been mostly quiet the rest of the afternoon, sitting at the kitchen table, flipping through a rune book. Zahara was making dinner though she randomly glanced at her daughter as well as her youngest son who was happily playing in his playpen. "Faatallon, go tell your father dinner's almost ready, please. Zykariel! Your turn to set the table."
She'd been about to ask her mother a question that had been turning around in her head all day long but she nodded. "I'll tell Lyssie to wash up too." Knowing that was going to be next anyway. Climbing the stairs, she delivered the message to her sulking sister and then started looking for her father. She found him propped on his bed, reading a book much like she was, and settled next to him. "Mama says dinner's almost ready." Then a brief pause where she let him go back to his book but remained where she was. "Daddy? A murderer is someone who kills someone else, right?"

It what he usually did when the kids were being over bearing and trying to push his buttons...namely in the form of his youngest daughter whom he ended up more or less carrying to her room and plopping her there till she could be civil. After such things, he did indeed turn to a book of some kind of familiar knowledge, let his mind be awash in familiar soothing things. But his attention turned to his daughter with a nod about dinner. He'd finish his page. However a stunned blink when she voiced an unusual question and he closed as well as set aside his book. "Well...yes and no. A murderer is one who kills, but in a particular sense. Why would you ask such a question?"

Faatallon blinked when he set his book aside. Either he was about to launch into a lesson or he was getting ready for dinner. Though she tilted her head and frowned. Yes and no? She hated answers like those and he knew it which was why he said a little more. Thinking over that a moment, she shook her head. "It's been bothering me for a little while. One of the Vesendar kids said that they knew a murderer because his parents were friends with one and that kind of worried me. If someone kills someone else once, won't they do it again? And how can a murderer have friends?"

Oh boy it was tough question time from the child. Though they were rather adult questions...however he had the fear of giving her a biased answer, which he knew he was going to give...he himself was a murderer and in the redeemable sense either. He had killed in cold blood. "Well...when someone kills someone else, that can not always be a murderer. Say if someone was trying to hurt you and you had to kill them or they would kill you...would you say that makes your a murderer? It doesn't meant they'll do it again either. A murderer is one whom intends and plans to kill someone." Trying to think through this as best he could from his disadvantage in the conversation. "As for friends...I guess you could say either there are those that hide their murder too well for others to know...or somehow, they have been forgiven by those around him." Hm...getting kind of personal here...of course there was always another reason...Murderes found friends in other murderers.

"Self defense?" She thought about that for a moment. "I wasn't really sure. Couldn't you just make it so they couldn't hurt you anymore without killing them? You and Mama teach us how to defend ourselves but not how to kill those who are hurting us or picking on us. I don't think it would be right to kill them. I mean what if it was an accident? Like if someone threw a rock and it hit me in the head. I couldn't kill them for that...that would just be mean." Intention and planning...that sounded pretty cold blooded to her. "Why would anyone do that?" Friends didn't thrill her either and she shivered at the thought that the murderer could be lurking around, having hidden his crime and not even suspected. But he had to have a reason to kill in the first place and if he had one, couldnt' he just find another? Her nice safe world was quickly evaporating, carrying with it the stark fear of reality.

"Well yes...killing would only be a last resort in that case and when that time comes, it's more instinctual than anything." Swallowing hard...his daughter was smart and that he feared at the moment, what with the way she was speaking of such people. How would she feel to know that her father was a murderer? "Killing, in the underdark and such places...is circumstantial and part of life sometimes....no it's not right to kill someone because of being petty...but if they're threatening your life and move to make good on thier promise, you're left with little choice."
No he wasn't trying to make a cover up even for himself, that's how it was for him too. It just wasn't his victim that was the threat but those he had to return home to. The conversation for him was geting quickly uncomfortable...was going to have a talk with Zahara about this. "Are you alright? Sure there's nothing more to this questioning?" Half of him was glad she was claming up on him and would simply remember dinner, but the more sensible half said he should be worried for her silence.

"Exactly. someone was arming these men in our house. that means someone has been going behind my back and done thier homework in keeping this from me. which leads to another question. how many more are there? how many other groups are bidding thier time armed with weapons bought from my armory. and how many of them are looking to turn those weapons on my house and my people."
A frown, handing the spear over to his son.
"Bring that with us. Give me a few more minutes to see if I can find any kind of paperwork or contracts around here and then we'll head home."

"Or...how many are actually in the house." Damn it...he just freaked himself out. After all, he really didn't care if the house fell down...not that he wanted to...but the point was, his mother and little brother were there adn if things were in the worse possible scenario...they were easy ambushed targets. Well crap, that's what happened when your mind wandered like that. Perhaps it made him feel better over what he had just done to think of such a thing though...obviously these weren't just horse thieves. But taking the spear, he sheathed his blade deapite the blood on it...he could clean it later, and thus back to waiting patiently...trying to not let his mind wander too hard or far.

"Instinctual..." She appreciated his agreement with her over murdering for a petty reason. The rest of it stressed her slightly. "But there are runes in my book that will simply stun them and leave them with no other option than to lay there like a log. What if I killed them then? Doesn't that make me a murderer and take away the fairness of a fight?"
She nibbled on her finger for a moment and then nodded, "I'm fine, Daddy. Just curious, I suppose. Someone says something and I start to think about it and you're a lot smarter than me." Giving him a smile before he got a hug and kiss to his cheek. "I was afraid you wouldn't talk to me about it though. Just pat me on the head and tell me I was being silly. I'm glad you didn't." Standing up, she tugged on his hand. "Come on. Mama's gonna break out the spoon if we aren't washed and ready for dinner when she calls. I'm already in enough trouble..."
Sure enough a moment later Zahara walked to the stairs and called up. "Dinner! Hands washed and butts in seats in five minutes." Walking over to the playpen she picked up her son and bounced him lightly to hear him giggle, then perched the baby on her hip, picking up a bottle. "Here you go, Kelli." Pulling over the highchair with her foot, she settled her son into it and then set a steaming casserole on the table. She'd give them five minutes and then she was hunting them down.

Malik visibly stiffened when his son uttered those words...and Mavolence, still unsheathed blazed to life like someone had made it very happy. Malik got up and got on his horse, taking a peice of paper out of the crate.
"If they have...and even so much as a fingernail is chipped on your brother or mother...they will wish they'd been here. I will make them beg and grovel for the pleasurable release of death."
before putting his helmet back on, and spurring Ramoth to a full gallop, leaving hte bodies for the scavengers of the underfoot.

"Yes, I suppose that would be murder. To kill when someone is defenseless, is indeed murder." He knew that one well...the helpless who couldn't fight back and those you made helpless were indeed victims of murder. Though this conversation was only forcing him to think of things he hadn't in a long time. Lightly he rubbed a hand across his cheek where Zahara had years earlier tried to make things better for him, and then gave his daughter a smile, letting her pull him. "Some things need to be explained instead of left to pondering ignorantly."
Thusly rounding up and herding anyone who needed to be downstairs, following them down to the table and sitting down in his own seat, rubbing at the back of his neck as he often did when he was feeling stress. Personally, he spent dinner in a silence that was a little odd even for him.
He blinked at the change that washed over his father at the mere thought of such things...he was worried to but dad seemed to jump the gun a little bit...yet at the same time that could be a blessing. Thusly scrambling a moment to pull himself up into the saddle of his horse with the spear he had in hand, spurring him on to catch up with his father to head back home at more or less breakneck pace.
At home? Piper was on the floor with Dhairiss, playing with him or rather drawing with him. Some colored charcoal and some paper was all the boy really needed at the moment. Of course at the same time she was writing a few letters as he continued in his picture coloring. If anything wrong was in the house, she certinally wasn't aware of it. Though she did seems a little distracted as particular ripples spread out across bonds.

Zahara leaned back in her chair, watching her family through wizened eyes. Most of them were quiet. Zykariel was quiet because he and Sevilin never got along when it came to discussions regarding daily activities and because he was too busy shoving food in his mouth to speak. Lyssthyren was still sulking which meant her usual chatter was silenced. Faatallon was doing the thinking quiet and merely picking at her food which worried Zahara. The child was highly contemplative and usually on issues that tended to come with some unease. Sevilin's silence was even more alarming since she had a feeling it had to do with Faate's. Even Kelligrin sensed the somewhat somber mood and was quietly playing in his casserole, picking out the things he didn't quite like. She let things go until the meal came to a close and the children went off to do what separate activites. "I'd like to move Kelligrin's crib into a separate room," she said casually, setting him on a blanket with toys then returning to handle the dishes.

It wasn't really hard to know when something was wrong with Sevilin, especially when he as around food or more pointedly Zahara's food. Where he could put down three plus plates, he only put down one tonight. At present had was taking to putting away left overs...there were rarely left overs in the house. Moving over to dry the dishes she was doing, he paused and blinked at that sentence. Well that was highly unexpected...he was younger than the other children when she had said she was ready to let them have thier own rooms. "Think you're ready for both of you to have your space or did you just want to move the grib and he'll still be spending the evenings with us?" Then quiet again, but thoughts clearly running his mind that weren't of the best nature, reflected slightly in his eyes. Damn it, why did he have to think about it every time.

Malik leapt from Ramoth and started in into the building before she even hit the stables, servants taking care of her as he come in the building.
"I want that human who runs the books brought to me. I want his quarters completely torn apart. anything he's hiding is to be brought to me. Bring me Broog, and I want my wife and my children under protection effective right now."
placing his helm on the table.
"Bring piper's bow and quiver to her. and her sword. no member of my family is to be unarmed except for Dhairiss, and I want Keely armed as well."

She'd noticed it. Zykariel seemed to eat more and Sevilin seemed to eat less. Not to mention she was dumping food off of both the girls' plates which was alarming in itself. They barely ate one and they usually had decently hearty appetites. "Either my cooking went seriously downhill or there's something wrong." She muttered it mostly to herself as she scrubbed down Kelligrin's highchair then glanced at him. "He's too dependent on me and I'm too dependent on him. We both need to give each other some space and since he hasn't had me for the past three nights, I think now is a good time to start it. Besides, I miss having random sex with you just because. We can hardly do that with Kelligrin three feet from us in reverie...it just feels strange."
