Yeah I guess people would complain that they are horribly unbalanced if they had a CC Battle suit, it would be cool though xd . Maybe an alternate army list that sacrifices long range for close range? Nah...more already expensive models to buy..

Its a shame actually considering they could make some pretty advanced CC oriented battle suits if they wanted to.

It's all to do with the Tau dogma.

Tradition beats practicality, unfortunately.

Yeah and don't Tau find CC barbaric and just leave that to the Kroot.

that they do, they find close combat uncivilized and barbaric, so they have their kroot to do it. Farsight changed this perspective somewhat though, greenskins...

Of course all of this is opinionated, but I also agree. You cannot catch a crisis suit squad if they hit and run. You will be torn to bits by flamers, plasma rifles, and missle pods well before you surround them and catch them.
Farsight is probably the only tau besides Aun'Va's body guards that can fight in close combat. He is far displaced from the actual tau fighting style. 3nodding With several attacks, a weapon that allows no armor saves, and a bunch of goodies and body guards to back him up, good luck winning in close combat unless you assault with multiple squads of high-quality C-C fighters. 3nodding
Oh, and just so you know, battlesuits are not completely helpless in close combat. 3nodding My command squad of 3 units wiped out an almost full squad of fully upped chaos marines with taking 3 wounds in return. 3nodding It is also determined by the luck of the roll, my good man. You can have an entire Close-Combat army swarm Farsight and his guards, but have the worst rolls and still lose. 3nodding sweatdrop

as i have already been down this debate on here to many times i wont go overly into details but thats not exactly true my force is mostly made up of fire warriors with the minmum of the others as possible and are quite often in the thick of fighting and winnning, and its normaly me who charged them. im not saying suits are useles in combat at all my tau army excells in it how ever its the old thing for every army that you shouldnt have a combat charcter in a shoting squad and thats what suits are sure they can last for a while in combat but they should never be there, its okay saying that you can just jump around to avoide fights and being shot at but it ignores the fact that you are going to be out numberd and therefore out manuvered, hell even my gaurd army infantry army has won against suits by charging them, i know they can have thier bonuses but i just find them to specalised to be overly effective against all armies

I am also not suggesting that any tau other than Kroot should go into close combat unless they have no other option or it no longer matters.
I have also found that imp guards are nasty little sons of bitches to beat. stressed They are good versing almost anything! gonk
I have definatly beaten them, but with their low points and stupid "55 men possible in one troop choice" rule they are nasty opponents. I hate facing them under any circumstances. That's why I bought some Broadsides! twisted And the tanks go BOOM!

Tank killing is actually a tau specialty i think. I hate taking my dreads again tau. Especially since i know what they can do bieng a former tau player.

Broadsides... 3 shots, 3 potential re-rolls for a miss, and massive damage. Where could you go wrong!? xd heart

Did the Beginners thing today. Since they were helping people set up a 200 point army, one the people lent me a Sniper Drone Squad, Gun Drone Squad, and I had brought 6 Fire Warriors, and 1 Gun Drone with me. Splpit into two of four, 4 either side board, me facing an ork player, with War Trukk, Guy with Shoota and Rokkit Launcher.
Sniper Drones took out the War Trukk within 2 turns XD

Meh, sniper drones are good for a while, but they are less valuable with bigger armies. 3nodding

I've found them to be really useful running them alongside two Fireknife suits and Fire Warriors in combat patrol.

Sniper Drones are okay, but only in specific situations. I ran them in a 1500 Bunker Assault mission, as the defender. Worked great, especially since I had three Fire Warrior squads with a Marker Drone and a Markerlight Shas'ui each, and a full squad of Pathfinders. My biggest problem is that my Markerlights kept missing.

Sniper Drones are good... but in regular games, Broadsides and HAmmerheads are just way better.
