The Drop Pod...
Is it an actual Chaos drop pod or is it a Imperial tech that was taken by the Chaos Legions.

Dreadclaws were standard imperial issue until the Heresy as they became a little too sentient for the techpriest's likes. There were many casualties suffered on ships with them on so many captains in the Heresy jettisoned their deadly cargo into space. Chaos Vessels still maintain these dangerous drop pods, but unlike imperial counterparts they are multi use as they are technically an orbital lander.

I too am planning for my first ever models and conversions, are a Word Bearers Dark Apostle and a retinue of Chosen tactical Marines, or maybe Terminators, not too set on either yet.

Anyhow, I was very striken by the head of the Champion of Chaos Undivided from Warhammer fantasy, but I'm not too set on what body I'd want to use. I'm thinking about taking a Chaos Tac-Marine and "Lord"ing him up with banners, spikes, trophies, and what not. I'm probably also going to go for the 8 pointed Chaos star as depicted in the CSM codex for the Accursed Crozius.

As for his retinue, I was thinking of using the Dark Angels upgrade sprue with the cloaks and tabards, and painting those in flesh colors and detailing them with scribbles, representing selected passages from The Books of the Epistles of Lorgar, printed upon the flayed skins of the poor victims of these Word Bearers Chosen.

I would recommend getting some of the black templars robes as well-- one in particular has two skulls on the front that would be perfect for a word bearers army.

If you decide to do chaos termies, I would suggest either converting plastic space marine terminators or wait until the new chaos codex comes out (there are rumors of plastic chaos termies coming out alongside the 'dexs release.)

You simply must use a Chaplain for your Dark Apostle. Most of them look pre-Heresy enough to pass for a Chaos Lord. If not that, at least give him a skull face, like the FB Chaos Warrior Champion head. The added bonus is that Warriors kitbash really well with CSMs, and their bannertops make an awesome crozius.

Another really good conversion I've seen is the standard Chaos Lord, holding an open book (like the one the Inquisitors carry) instead of that combiweapon arm.

Oh, and you're forbidden from using Black Templar bits because that's my idea and no one can ever do what I do. razz

Silliness aside, there's quite a few annoying Templar crosses to file off or cover up, but the results are really worth it.
