A hand slapped to his neck to hide the hickey, glancing down at it. When had that gotten there?! Last night or this morning?! Tim rubbed at it in hopes of it going away, walking to the kitchen to cook the sandwich. "I'm sorry for keeping you up. I think my phone fell in the car. Madison drove me home I could barely walk. I'm really sorry I know I promised one drink." he walked out, sitting a bit away from Daren to prevent from being in hitting distance. The man's stress and exhaustion was now intimidating. "Drive safe to work, okay?"

Daren shook his head, "not your fault i was up, just couldn't sleep." he saw how carefully Tim was keeping his distance and sighed softly, "i won't hurt you, Tim. i might snap at you, but i won't hit you. i'm sorry you don't feel safe with me right now." he gave tim a small smile and hurried so he could finish and save Tim from having to deal with him. "i'll be careful. and you don't have to answer to me. it doesn't matter if you have one or twenty drinks, really. do what you like, though try to not lose your phone next time." he chuckled to show he wasn't being threatening, "you and Madison, huh? he any good in bed?"

"It might hurt less from this distance even if you do snap." he admitted taking the sandwich and slowly ripping it apart, dropping the bits in the soup. "I'll try not too. I thought it was in my pocket but I guess it fell out. I was so drink I don't remember walking in to his apartment." he sighed, using his soup to keep the pieces under water before lifting them out and eating them. He was blushing easily today, having to force himself to swallow the food instead of choke on it. "I, uh, don't remember. Um." he patted at the floating pieces of sandwich before mumbling. "Good with his mouth though... What if I was bad last night?!" he exclaimed suddenly, face showing horror.

Daren rolled his eyes, "i'm firly sure you have nothing to worry about. Did he ask to see you again and set an actual date? if he set a date, that means you were good and he wants to do it again, if he didn't set a date then he is unsure if he should continue a relationship with one of his clients, thinks you were good and most likely wants to see you again." he finished his sandwich and was working on his soup now. "good for you, Tim. i'm a bit jealous, maybe i should find a lover." it would certainly relieve some of the tension he was feeling.

Tim opened his mouth to counter Daren's argument but s**t it. Madison had indeed set another date for next weekend. "Yea... I'll be busy next Friday." he murmured, "Or Saturday, we haven't set anything in stone yet." another bite of the grilled cheese tomato soup, looking over and chuckling, covering his mouth while speaking so Daren didn't get a mouthful of food. "I'm telling you some of those women were incredibly interested. Of course one of them is looking to start a family so unless you want to, I won't set you up with her."

Daren was too vunerable to handle this right now, but at the mention of a family, he broke. tears filled his eyes and he stood, pushing away from the table, "i've got to go." his voice broke and he shook his head, running a hand over his eyes, "sorry. i just-i can't. never again, i just-" he gathered his jacket with shaking hands and made sure he had his phone and his keys. "someone like me doesn't deserve a family, i destroy everything i touch."

"I'm sorry!" Tim said suddenly, standing up as Daren did. "Aomine! Daren." He said, standing in front of the man. "No, hey, don't say that." he rubbed the man's hands comfortingly. "Call Iroh, tell him you need to take the day off. You're tired right now, and I said something really bad. You shouldn't go to work like this." Tim carefully took the jacket from the officer. "You haven't destroyed me."

Daren placed a hand on Tim's shoulder and pushed him away, taking his jacket back, "Yet. I haven't broken you yet, Tim, and i plan on getting you as far away from me as possible before i can." he shook his head, "i am right. I can only bring pain, i've ruined so many lives." his vision was getting blurry with tears, "if i am wrong then why? what was she killed and not me? why did i lose them-" he let out a tiny sob and forced the tears down, "i have to go." he pushed past Tim and went outside, heading for the stairs. the elevator would take too long. he didn't know that he'd left his office door open, a door that had always been locked up until now. The case file on his desk was five years old and on top of it a well worn picture. Daren went to his car and drove for the police station. he knew there would be others there, but at least he would be able to pull his professionalism around him and that would help more than anything, even if the reminder would hurt, but it was a familiar pain.

"Daren you won't break me at all." he said softly. "Daren." he was a bit more stern. "Daren you don't ruin anyone's life." The next sentence threw him off guard? She? Them? "Aomine!" but the door shut, Tim hesitating on following but as he opened the door he heard footsteps down the stairs. No elevator. he sighed, gently closing and locking it back up. He didn't have work today, what could he do? Looking at the state of disarray, no doubt from Daren staying up all night worrying, the man decided it would be best to clean. But where was the cleaning supplies? He found a few things in the kitchen, resting them on the coffee table before looking for a broom cupboard. He stopped though at the office. This should be closed. Tim wasn't allowed to look in here. But his legs moved in, eyes scanning the room before landing on the picture. He picked it up, looking at the woman in it. She was pretty, but it looked worn around the edges, the black and white coloring itself was faded even. Tim analyzed it, putting his fingers where it seemed most faded and bent. Aomine held this picture often. He shouldn't have, but slowly he sat down, holding the picture in one hand before gently opening the folder, was this her name right here? Another glance at the happy picture, heart twisting and saying this didn't bode well, but the hazel eyes looked back down and started to read.

The file was a report written by Daren himself. it detailed an undercover investigation with another officer by the name of Nevina Holden. together, she and Daren had infiltrated a drug ring that had most of the western states and were working to bring it down from the inside. the night they were going to leave, they had been ambushed and taken hostage by the organization. Daren and Officer holden were interrogated for information, but they didn't give any when the men focused their attentions of Officer Holden. Daren had fought against them men holding them and both had been rendered unconscious. when they woke, the police raid was in effect and Daren managed to get them out of the room they were being held in. Officer Holden had been unable to walk and so Daren carried her on his back as he made his way through the fighting towards where the police and safety were. just before they made it outside, Officer Holden was shot multiple times in the back by one of the gang bosses, Daren himself also getting shot in the right hip. Daren shot the boss and continued to drag Officer Holden to safety, despite his bullet wound. by the time they were found, Officer Hold had bled out and died in Daren's arms. below this report was a coroner's report as well as an autopsy. Officer Holden had been pregnant at the time of her death, the father was listen as Daren Aomine.

He read slowly, eyes going through the words, slowly widening. This had been Aomine's partner. They'd been captured during a raid. Tim didn't want to read this, he didn't want to but he couldn't stop either. he held his fingers over his lips, Nevina's picture now tight in his hand, and now he could understand where those small creases came from, they were bending where in the places he held, that Aomine held. He carried her out on his back, Tim already knowing it was a bad move, eyes tearing up. She was shot. Multiple times. But it was the ending that had Tim bolt up from the chair, the fire landing all over the floor at his feet. Pregnant. She'd been pregnant. That time of the hospital came to him, where Aomine ha kissed his head and apologized saying it had been automatic, his girlfriend having slept like that. He wanted to apologize to the picture, or compliment her, but he was crying, forcing himself to crouch down and carefully organize everything back into the folder, placing it on the desk like he'd found it. He closed the office door behind him as he exited, wanting to go lie down and curl up. "You're attracted to men who've been married." he laughed through his tears, walking back to the coffee table and grabbing the cleaning supplies. He was going to clean and then maybe retire to bed. He felt too much pity and sympathy for Aomine, and now he felt incredibly guilty. He would just clean and lay down. he could blame the headache still pounding in the back of his head.

Daren walked into the office and was surprised to see Iroh was the only person there. Suddenly, he knew what he wanted to do. he went into Iroh's office and shut the door before pulling down the blinds, making it seem as if the man wasn't in. Iroh didn't look up from his work until he heard the blinds closing. "What-?" he saw Daren and swallowed a little, actually a tiny bit scared. "Daren? Need to talk?" Daren stopped and glared at Iroh who flinched a little bit, "no. i don't have anything to say to you." he grabbed Iroh's collar and pulled him out of his chair, slamming their lips together in a bruising kiss, "but you owe me for this week, and i plan to collect." Iroh's eyes widened as he was grabbed, but he moaned into the kiss, giving up almost immediately, "then let me make it up to you," he whispered as their lips met once more. his work would have to wait, something more important had 'come up'. That night, Daren returned to the flat feeling better than he had in a while. he hung up his keys and took off his shoes, wincing slightly as he bent down to untie them. he was going to be sore for a while, but so was Iroh and it was a good kind of sore. "Tim?" he called, wondering if the man was in his room, "sorry about earlier. i was just frustrated. how about we go out to eat to make up for it?"

Tim was laying in his bed in his boxers, scrubs currently in the dryer and the house was sparkling. He felt depressed. It initially started as sympathy for Daren but it started to become negative and aimed itself at Tim, snowballing from there. His only way to cope was to strip down to his boxers and lay in his bed. He supposed it was good he wasn't feeling sorry for Daren anymore. Obviously the man hadn't completely gotten over it, no doubt family still being a sore issue, but for the most part he seemed like he was over it. Or Daren was just a good actor. The familiar jingle of keys was faint, but the door opened and the footsteps were definitely familiar. Tim continued to stare at the glasses on his nightstand, hearing Aomine take his shoes off next. When the red-head was finally called his closed his eyes. "I got a second wind of that hangover." he called meagerly, lifting the blankets to cover his head, curling up. "I'd rather not go out." He wasn't sure he could act like he never read that case file. He didn't trust himself that much.

Daren walked into Tim's room and sat on the edge of his bed, "i'm sorry you don't feel well. want me to get you anything? some water." he placed a hand on Tim's shoulder, "or some toast?" he himself wanted to pass out and go to sleep, worn out from the past couple of days, but he'd take care of Tim first.

"You could compliment my wonderful cleaning skills. Though Apple spilled some Windex on her so I had to wash her off." it was getting hot under the blankets but he dare not poke his head out. "I'll be fine. If I feel better I may go make myself some more soup from this morning. Did you eat a healthy lunch? Should I make you something?" No wait! He couldn't take that back now! Gosh darnit Timothy, think before you speak. Now if Daren did want something to eat he'd have to get out from hiding.
