Simply running away however wasn't much of a defense against something heading straight for you. Plenty of people dreamed of running with the Tauros...dreamed, because most of the people that had actually done it found themselves trampled under hoof with nary a second look from the Tauros.
A wall of fur and muscle would slam into the Houndour, throwing her when the beast abruptly halted. Snorting with fury the Tauros's tails would slow, soon all but ceasing their movement as the thick boned Pokemon began edging backward, putting it's hidequarters close to a 'wall' in order to keep the dog from nipping at it's flank. Hunkering down the Tauros snorted, almost daring the pup to come at him and see what she got for it.
"Brilliant Strategy, are you sure you aren't entering Tactics?" The voice mocked from the darkness. Apparently it found the child's troubles most amusing.
(One final note. Death. If a Pokemon's HP falls below 0 it will keep going into the negatives for whatever excess damage has been taken. Once it falls below -7, that is once it hits -8 or lower the Pokemon will die. Once dead no amount of revives or trips to the center will bring it back. )
Soot sailed through the air, much like the Flying type she'd never be. Thus unequipped with wings, she had no choice but to crash down hard onto the ground. She whimpered a bit, obviously lacking in any kind of battle composure... then again, when you were losing this bad, what did keeping up a front matter in the grand scheme of things?
Kade ignored the little jab, jaw set hard. Boss had always said his plans were stupid, which is why she suggested (Boss tended to suggest things with her fists) he join this Academy and get better. But how the hell was he supposed to get better if he couldn't even make it past the first fight? And what if Soot... He gritted his teeth, completely oblivious to the old adage about trying the same thing multiple times and expecting different results. "C'mon, Soots," he managed in the most encouraging voice he could conjure. "Ember."
In theory, getting closer to the to the Tauros would have improved her chances of hitting him. But at this point, she really, really, really didn't want to get close to the rampaging beast. So once again, she filled her lungs with air, and breathed an Ember with as much passionate as she could at her opponent.
Salem let out a muffled squeal of pain. The fox was a fire pokemon but a strong enough flame could cause him to burn. Despite being headless, the Ponyta was a powerful opponent. Shaking his fur out to try and rid himself of the sensation of pain to recover, the fox watched as the Ponyta ran in different directions. That was the way he was going to go about his defense? It was a good strategy. Before he decided to leap into action, he looked to see how Aedan was faring. The battle was important but Aedan was always top priority.
Aedan, on the other hand, was still cowering against the ground. As he heard the squeal of pain, he jumped up blue gaze wide with panic. What happened? Salem!? Turning, he saw the fox pokemon had been burned by the Ponyta. Wincing, he looked at the ground quickly. He was letting his pokemon down. There had to be a way to conquer his fears. This wasn't the time to hide. The boy had come here to the academy to change. Because he wasn't focused enough, Salem was getting hurt. Determination suddenly clouded his eyes as he stood up straight. "Salem! You can do it!"
The Fennekin watched as his trainer, his partner, went from cowering to standing tall. That was a good start! When the young male encouraged him, Salem leapt into action. He began charging at the Ponyta, aiming to Scratch at the Ponyta's hide! With Aedan cheering him on, he felt a spark of power building from within!

Heat and flame once more washed over the Tauros's body, but rather than harmlessly singing a few hairs this time a few of the embers would find their way up the bull's nose, burning hair and sensitive membrane.
Pain radiated through the Tauros's snout from the inside out, and in response it's tails sharply lashed at it's backside. It had been a raging beast before, but now as the Pokemon haphazardly thrashed it's head before it was clear the creature was now in a complete frenzy!
With a recklessness which put it's previous actions to shame the Tauros launched itself forward, head low, horns pointed outward as it picked up speed. It was obviously going for another Tackle, and if Soot wasn't careful she was about to become fresh hot street pizza!
The fox's small claws would find purchase in the Ponyta's claws, but rather than leaving a simple gash the Fenekin would find his paw coming away with a hunk of rotting skin and a strange of muscle, the stench penetrating his nose in seconds at so close a range. It smelled of death and graveyard soil.
Yet despite the damage to his physical form the Ponyta would seem unfazed, simply slowing now, turning his attention back to his opponent ">Tis you I spurn...<" He began as the flame of his man spread, roaring into a mighty blaze as he kicked off the ground ">...now feel....THE BURN!<"
IT would seem the undead beast intended another Flame Wheel!

Vincent would however find himself encountering a severe lack of throwing. It was more like a slow creeping drag, the kind half dead monsters did in movies attempting to look menacing. Much as had occurred with the other students, the young trainer would find the shadows moving away from the wall, rolling across the floor like fog, expanding into the air till the child and his Pokemon were concealed beneath a dome of darkness.
"Welcome child to your first test...AND PROBABLY YOUR LAST! GWAAAHAHAHAHAA!" A voice cackled from the shadows, a mixture of malice and insanity. After a moment's pause in order to let the chill settle a little the choice would add "Don't worry, the afterlife is lovely this time of year....or if you don't fancy a trip to the netherworld, I suppose you could have your little insect take this" In response to the disembodied voice a vial of acidic green liquid would rise from the floor at Vincent's feet.
Only a little while after this, enough time for the vial to be made proper use of, a shape would emerge from the darkness. With thick lips, a bright purple body, and a thick mop of hair on her head it was almost impossible not to recognize the image of a Smoochum. Grinning fiercely this one would greet her opponent by sharply slapping one hand against the other....and then she charged!
Lowering one hand to the ground as she ran the Smoochum would pick up a smear of mud from Arceus only knew where, leaping into the air and swinging hr arm back. Although the attack was normally meant to be done at range, it seemed she was going for a Mud-slap!
(At the beginning of a battle both the participants shall post the stats for the Pokemon they shall be using. Akumu Academy uses a Turn Based combat; so while one Pokemon attacks the other shall defend. Please not that Defense means blocking, evading, or distracting your opponent and does NOT involve the use of moves.)
(Who takes the first attack is decided by the SPD stat. Whoever has the highest speed takes the first attack. If both Pokemon have the same SPD they will attack simultaneously. The victor will then take their defense and the loser shall try attacking again.)
(Each turn both participants will roll 1D20. This is called an Accuracy Roll. As the name implies it determines the success rate of the attack or defense. If the person attacking rolls highest the move shall succeed and damage calculation will follow...assuming of course it is a damage dealing move. If the person defending rolls higher the move will fail and no damage shall be taken.)
Soot gave a cheerfully little yip, and even Kade managed to break a smile as her fire finally did some harm to the Tauros. Not as much as he would have wanted, but hey! What was that thing Boss said... "Rome wasn't burnt in a day"? Yeah, that sounded kind of smart. Burning things was exactly the right idea here.
As the Tauros began to roar and rampage, Kade had to wonder if the damn thing had ever gotten hurt before. It sounded like a whiny kid who'd skinned his knee for the first time... okay, Kade could generally dopeslap whiny kids, and this Tauros didn't look like he'd take to kindly to that, but the point remained! Without much else at his disposal, he yelped "Go!" And so the little Hounder went, weaving like a drunk at two am, scrambling to get out of the way.
Vincent eyes grew wider as everything around him and his Pokémon had suddenly began to turn black. His breath was caught in the back of his throat and heart began to race. Then a dragging sound? No, it couldn't have been. But, this had to be right if his Pokémon was hearing it just like him. Absolem squirmed himself out of his trainer's grasp and onto the ground. Wobbling forward and screeching out to whatever was out there.
Vincent flinched to the voice surrounding them. He knew he had to keep his cool in this situation, but how the heck was that even possible with the thoughts of what it potentially could be. Especially in with that tone of voice. He took in a deep breath and listened to whatever the voice had to say. He didn't appreciate what it had to say about him or Absolem, but maybe there was something more to it? His ears perked at the last part of the voice's sentence. "This?" he thought to himselfas he crouched down to see clearer. A vial of..green liquid? What could that do for his Pokémon? Was this a test of wits now? Regardless, the vial's appearance caused Absolem to look back to it. Immediately, he began to sniff over it and feeling with his antennas. It didn't appear that it hurt him, but Vincent wasn't so keen on trusting this voice. But orders were orders. "Here, time to drink up." The Venonat shook it's body at the taste of the liquid, fur puffing up slightly. It wasn't that horrible, but Absolem didn't want to taste something like that again for a while.
Upon finishing the vial, the shape came into full view. Vincent knew right off as to what Pokémon it had to be just from all that hair and think lips. But the image of it- wasn't like the other Smoochum's that he had seen in picture books. Gritting his teeth, Vincent knew something was up. An attack maybe? Had to be with the way it had begun to charge at them. From the darkness, Vincent couldn't tell what kind of attack it would be, but he knew that it would be a face off for the upper-hand. "Absolem! Show them what you're really made of!"
Without a second need for words, Absolem had begun his charge right back for the Smoochum. Teeth baring slightly from it's mouth and hands ready to grasp hold of his opponent for that Bug Bite.
((I understand the formatting. But, I have a quick question relating to our Pokémon's move-sets. If I were to successfully use a Disable on the Smoochum, would it have to revert to using Struggle? Or something to that effect?))
The Fennekin had managed to make a small scratch on the Ponyta. But dealing with an odd Ponyta had it's consequences. Once he had dug his claws into where the Ponyta's hide was, a piece of rotten flesh had come off and stuck to his claw. Lip curling in disgust, the fox shook his paw until it fell off. Salem was thoroughly distracted so he didn't have much time to try and avoid the Ponyta charging towards him with Flame Wheel. Instead he dove to try and go under the Ponyta's legs onto the other side, hopefully managing to stay unscathed!
Stumbling around wasn't the most effective stratagem when faced with a stampeding beast of burden; less so when said beast was actually gunning for you. With very little difficulty the Tauros would slam head first into Soot, catching her up in his horns and carrying forward with him. When the Tauros stopped it would rear up, tossing it's head. The Houndour was thrown into the air, striking the concrete floor with a sickening crunch...but that wasn't to be the end.
Stampede's hooves came down after that, again and again the Taurous would buck and rear, until all that remained on the ground was a mess of bone and fur matted by blood. It didn't even take a closer inspection to figure out there was no way the Houndour had survived.
Giving one finally angry moo, Stampede would look over it's massive shoulders once to deliver a heated glare at the boy before wandering off into the shadow and disappear.
"Hey now, I didn't order the Houndour Burger!" The voice would suddenly call out as the shadows began to shift "Good thing I didn't ask for no additives! GWAHAHAHAHA!"
As the voice cackled a glow would begin spreading over Soot's body, similar to the light of evolution...save this one was a sickly acidic green. Rather than growing larger however her body began to condense, shrinking until all that remained was the shape of an Egg. Black with a ring of red and silver, it would seem the pup had been saved...in a fashion.
"Take that to the Pokemon Center and they'll see it hatches a little early. Be warned though, she won't be so lucky next time" The voice said coldly. Then all at once the room returned to normal, the same way as when the boy had entered it...save for an extra face or two of course.

Unfortunately for the Venonat it's movements would prove too slow, the thick taste of muck filling the insect's mouth as it's face received an earth shaking slap. He was probably lucky it wasn't a backhanded gesture.
"Oooooh, now that had to sting! But where did she get the mud I wonder..." The voice pondered allowed before adding with a verbal sneer "I'll never tell....GWAHAAHAHAHA!"
Seeming quite satisfied with her work the Smoochum would backtrack from there, arms flung behind her as her tiny feet motored. It would seem this was to be a hit and run!
(To make that significantly clearer, I'll now do the Damage Calculation for my Smoochum's successful Mud-slap.)

(Now another thing you need to know about is Criticals and Fumbles. If you roll a 20 for your accuracy roll this will be considered a Critical. When you roll a Critical that Pokemon will receive +1 to their Accuracy Roll for the rest of the battle or until they're swapped out. Note this only effects the turn they rolled the Critical. Meaning if you roll a 20 while attacking it will apply to your attacks, and if you rolled it while defending it will effect your defense.)
(A Fumble occurs when you roll a 1. Opposite to a critical you will receive -1 to your Accuracy Roll in attack or defense depending on when you rolled it.) )

Salem rolled across the ground, paw clutching at his head. That hadn't worked out as well as planned. Feeling the lump starting to rise, he winced the world spinning partially. After he regained his focus, he watched as the Ponyta began to do the same maneuver as before. Despite the random weaving around, he felt there was a chance he would try to move quickly and strike.
Aedan realized the battle wasn't going too well. Despite the fact that he wasn't cowering, this still wasn't helping the situation one bit. As he considered what had happened so far, what could possibly be the weakness? Try from a different angle? They had nothing to lose. "Salem, front maneuver!" he yelled anxiously.
With those words, the fox leapt smoothly into action. Darting forward, he began trying to move fast enough to speed past the Ponyta. It took a couple seconds but he was able to gain ground quickly. With one fluid motion, he jumped aiming to slash down with Scratch at the Ponyta's right shoulder. From the leap, he was hoping to add more power to his attack!
