Ok, time for Saturday's write up of Bakuretsucon.

Now, as I mentioned, I was the Green Room Manager, which meant I didn't get out a lot. But that was ok, because I managed to get to see all the panels that I really was interested in. And...I got to go to the dealer's room, which was really tiny. I got Stream a set of Shana figures and Haruhi figures, as well as some Steve Bennett artwork. So it was all good.

Now, in between panels and stuff, the guests would come into the green room to chill out and get something to eat or drink. And of course, we all kept telling our con horror stories and various other stories. But I'll get to those later.

Tiffany had a few panels that I really wanted to go to. One was her Fansubs/Bootlegs/Piracy panel and another was her "tales of con horror", as well as a voice acting panel (I really wish people would ask about more than just her role as Asuka in Eva...). But, before all that, they had "Anime Unscripted" (which is the con version of "Whose Line Is It Anyways?").

Now, usually Anime Unscripted would have the Guests of Honor as the contestants, but since the con was so small, they had Tiffany and Steve Bennett in all the games, and also called on audience members to participate. Well, I volunteered and was thrown into "Let's Make A Date", where the lucky bachleorette (Tiffany) gets to ask questions of a bunch of weirdos and choose her "date". My personality? God of Heavy Metal. I almost died, and I know a few of my friends in the audience would crack up, since one of them actually KNEW me back in my metalhead days. So, drawing upon personal experiences, and a good dose of inspiration from Metalocalypse, I gave a performance that had the whole place laughing in hysterics. A videotape was made of the show, so if I ever find it online somewhere, I'll post a link so everyone can have a good laugh.

So, the Fansub/Bootlegs/Piracy panel was interesting. Some things I already knew, and some I didn't. I already mention several pages back about Cardcaptor Sakura, and while I knew that the Japanese animation industry depends on American revenue a lot, I didn't realize just how much the Japanese animation industry depended on US sales. Basically, if the US industry fails, so will the Japanese. Apparently there are more anime fans in America than in Japan, and the Japanese fanbase cannot support their own animation industry. A good chunk of new series being produced in Japan right now are being done with funding from American companies.

I can do a separate posts for the different stories that got tossed around. But, I did promise a creepy fanboy story. So here it is.

If anyone's ever seen Tiffany Grant in person, then you know she's a tiny little person. She tops out a 5 feet tall, and is very thin. Hell, I'm taller than Tiffany is. So, there was this guy, he was really tall, over 6 ft, who most of us in security and in Guest Relations thought was a little touched in the head. Not crazy, just a little clueless, but he was at every single panel Tiffany was at. That's not necessarily a bad thing. But he always sat up in front, right in front of Tiffany. When it was question time, he never raised his hand and just asked his question. Rude, yes, but once again, it's not necessarily a big issue. The problem is that he would just ramble on and on and on about his life and the fact that he has a degree in rocket science (or something...I'm not so sure that he was telling the truth), and basically take 3 or 4 minutes to actually ask his question. And he did this at EVERY SINGLE PANEL.

And even worse, he would come right up to Tiffany after the panels and keep asking her questions. We had to basically make up excuses to get her away from this guy, and half the time he tried to follow us! Even when we took measures to keep him in check in some of her panels, he always tried to come up and ask her MORE questions. It was more than a normal fan reaction. He was practically stalking her.

And that night we decided to cook for the Guests. I gut stuck making spaghetti and sausage, which apparently everyone loved. It sure surprised the hell out of me.

I do so love con stories. whee Sounds like an eventful first day, glad it went as well as it did and looking forward to stranger stories as it goes on. xD
