*a pillar of pulsating blue energy forms in the center of the Bistro. It implodes upon itself, and Dr. Manhattan stands in it's wake. He surveys the scene.*

Blake?

*approaches him*

Just where, exactly, am I? The Edward Blake I know is dead.

How do you know I AIN'T dead? Maybe you're in Hell. Last I knew, I was dead, too.

Speaking of which, what happened to Veidt? If I ever see that runt here . . . .

No. I've concluded that the concepts of heaven and hell are falsities. Even if they weren't, I'm quite certain I cannot die. This place... This place is different. I anticipated coming here, but since my arrival, my clairvoyance is no longer functional. Most interesting indeed...

Veidt? Veidt succeeded, and humanity was better for it. United amidst the blanket of a greater threat that never existed. But I'm sure you knew he would.

Oh, there's a Hell. I didn't think there was, but the Lucifer comes here. And if he's real, his home has to be real, as well. it only stands to reason. I mean. I still don't BELIVE in it, but I accept that it's out there somewhere.

And lemme tell ya something. Societies that bond over the promise of a threat? They don't stay bound together very long.Veidt's plan'll backfire in the end. He may have bought an extra year. Maybe an extra decade or two. But it ain't gonna really do any good unless people change.

Recently, I have become aware of the existence of multiple universes. It was my investigation into this matter that brought me to this place. Perhaps in these alternate universes, there is a hell. Perhaps one of these alternate universes IS a hell. But within the universe that I, and apparently you, formerly resided, there is not.

And yes, Veidt's plan is doomed to failure. There is no "end," merely a later. I left earth shortly after Veidt followed through on his plan, but I have no doubt that it was not a permanent success. In my later activities, I reached a conclusion: All intelligent, sentient lifeforms are doomed to self-destruction. While pursuits such as Viedt's may be noble-intentioned, they only prolong the inevitable.

*hurries into the bar carrying a laptop, grabs a beer, and sits at the counter*

....... gonk

*pauses his reading, goes to grab a bottle of rum and a shot glass, and puts it in the stand-by position next to the little MacBook*

Oh man. Maybe this 'getting into technology' idea wasn't such a good thing. *goes back to reading, irresistibly drawn to the screen*
