So I just went to get Raikou from the man at the PokeMart... and I got a Mew. Then a Raikou as well, but I had completely forgotten I got a mystery gift Mew.

Besides Shaymin you can also get a Heatran with Eruption, yet another Manaphy Egg, and (assuming you find someone else with a copy of the game) at least one Deoxys. In my opinion, I like the game mechanic improvements in Guardian Signs, but Shadows of Almia had the more epic plot.

I've only ever played the first Pokemon Ranger. Then I lost it. Oh, and I rented Shadows of Almia once.

I never played Shadows of Almia, as there was no reason to imo.
oh, and I already have a Deoxys, Heatran, and Manaphy, so I wasn't in the biggest rush to buy the game for those reasons.

Almia had the requisite Manaphy Egg, as well as a Darkrai and the Aura-Sphere-using Riolu. Plus a couple of fun download missions to try and catch Dialga and Palkia. With Dialga, you had about 60 seconds to finish the capture, or else it would use Roar of Time and reset the mission. With Palkia, the dungeon has rooms from all over the region interconnected with Spacial Rend (or something). And during the capture, the battlefield changes periodically too. As for Guardian Signs, there's no other legit way for Heatran to use Eruption, so that makes for a powerful Pokemon in an OU or Uber battle. (What? Bulky Gyarados can withstand two Fire Blasts? Eat Eruption, punk!) And like I said a few pages ago, only in Ranger will you find Ditto... as a boss.
