With a terrific crash, the giant scorpion tore through a solid boulder. Shinratsu stumbled, horrified, not just by the giant fragments of rock showering through the air but... This thing was colossal! How on earth did these scorpions grow to such a size anyways!? Many beady black eyes had settled on him. Cripes! Clearly, the mother scorpion didn't care who was it that stole her baby anymore... The curved tail arched and lashed out. His frame surrounded with pale blue chakra and...

A terrible screech filled the air, as the scorpion spun around, trying to find her prey. Not far off, Shinratsu remained hidden, in the safety of a cluster of boulders. His third success... A bead of sweat rolled down his brow. He had been working on the Shunshin for quite some time now...but with very little success. A soft sigh left his lips. It was difficult not to get disappointed...he knew he shouldn't, expectantly, Jutsu learning was supposed to take time and patience to learn. However...that was one close shave.

This place is freaky... Shin thought, repressing a shudder, as the more distant screeching of scorpions reached his ears. What do they eat, anyways, to grow that... Shin paled. Then he decided that he didn't want to know. Perhaps he should head back to the village...train in a less...infested area. Or just continue with his Shunshin practice as he return towards the village gates... Concentrating on his tenketsu nodes and focusing on a spot not too far from him, Shinratsu felt warm chakra envelop him...

Ouch... What on earth happened? Shinratsu glanced back. Didn't initialize... Pain crept up near his chest... Did he use too much...of that chakra...? But he couldn't give up right now...progress was slow, but he was beginning to understand the workings of the Shunshin. Clenching his jaw tightly, he pushed himself to stand, ignoring the pain. Stupid kekkai genkai... It was almost more of a hindrance than it does good.

Besides... What kind of shinobi would he be, if he can't even master the most basic fundamental techniques. A steely expression in his blue eyes. Whatever he has to do. Because... If he lets himself fall behind, then his wish will never come true. Kiri's distant image formed in his mind... Before that, then... He absolutely refused to give in. Resolve strengthening, Shinratsu began harnessing chakra again for yet another Shunshin attempt.

Gather the chakra. The mixture must be perfect, of the energy of mind and body... The molding process came first, then...shape manipulation... Allow the chakra to surround the whole body first... He felt the space before him rippling, bending away... That's right. Shunshin is supposed to be a technique that uses chakra to enhance speed...bend space so that a shinobi could move faster than he or she actually could. Eyes determined, Shinratsu charged ahead...his image flickered...and he reappeared, a distance off.

There was so much in this world that he wanted to learn... He wanted to learn, to grow strong...all for the sake... So that he could someday learn truly why, from that place... The truth that he seeks... His fist clenched. It will drive him, and make him strong!

Until then... He absolutely cannot allow himself to fall behind anyone else. Sacrifices had been made, all so that he could live...and stand here at this day... He would not allow them to go to waste. More chakra! Pour every ounce of strength in his body! Let's go! Shinratsu pulled out one of his kunai, twirled it once around before hurling it. Catch it, before it falls... It was a race. But his own challenge, against Time herself.

The air split, allowing the metal kunai knife to pass through. It was hurled with enough force not to immediately lapse into the parabolic fall but sliced through the air as cleanly as one would with a sword. Shinratsu could feel chakra gathering at his feet, the space, the gravity, friction before him became nothing. The kunai began to curve in its path...but before the point of the knife even dipped downwards, towards the earth, Shinratsu snatched it from the air.

His eyes widened. The hell? What on earth just possessed him, to throw the kunai like that... Shinratsu stared, for a moment, at the handle of the blade that was still clutched tightly in his palm. Really. Heh. But it wasn't that bad of an idea... He had just managed the Shunshin again... Interesting. So he could perform the Jutsu just fine, when under some sort of drive... But if not, then he wasn't able to. No! That was not fine! In terms of using this in formal combat, he doesn't have the time he does now! This technique - must - be perfected, before he could allow for its use.

Hadn't he... Hadn't he sworn to himself that he would never let himself fall behind? But for the first time in a long while, in this village...he had found rivals. He had found people uncomfortably close to him - and he did not mean for friendship's sake - but here he had found, for the first time, people close to his age that was enough to make him tremble. It made every cell in his body recognize the need, the drive...to become stronger, more powerful... That while in Kiri he found no one worthwhile, here he had found many... Roy. Raisuke. Cronos. Princess Elruda.
But none of them had gone through his pain... He refuses to fall behind - because his sufferings had given him strength!

Continue running... No matter what. As long as a single breath remains in his body! With all his strength, Shinratsu hurled the kunai. Further! And further! To walk further, to run further...to grasp destiny with his own hands. Not a slave of Kiri's or Iwa's but his very own person! Warm chakra enveloped him...this space before him was no hindrance... He could feel, his existence being torn from one piece of space and time and into another... Closer and closer his fingers reached the metal handle of the kunai...and there! He clenched his fingers, gripping the kunai tightly by the handle.

Another success... A small smile crossed his lips. What should he do now? Should he take a break? He had been going about perfecting the Shunshin for some time now... And to be honest, he was rather tired...from doing two missions a day as well as refusing to give up his nighttime training. Gig doesn't know, or so he thought, and Shinratsu did his best not to look so tired in the mornings. But usually, he says very little to his teammates anyways...so hopefully they didn't notice something was amiss. Yet, still... Despite all the trails and tribulations he had endured, it was exciting, a certain fire burned within him... He wanted to finish.

But his harnessing of chakra was gradually growing poorer. It was becoming harder, the more he used up his Fuuton reserves... He did switch around, sometimes using Hyouton chakra, sometimes his normal Fuuton-affinity chakra. Of course, Shunshin with Hyouton chakra as a basis was downright painful... Shinratsu suspected he might've unwittingly done some sort of damage to his tenketsu... Perhaps he should have Yokou look at it in the morning.

But it kind of sickened him too, to have to rely on others so much... He briefly courted the idea of becoming a medica-nin himself. Won't be that bad, probably...he'll have the advantages to his bloodlimit's cons. However...what sort of medic-nin will he be, if he can't directly touch his patients... A frown toyed at the corners of his mouth. Well, not all of them uses their hands...right...? Shaking his head, Shinratsu scoffed inwardly. He was made to be a tank, not a supporter. Or was he? Tanks were supposed to be strong stamina-wise, so that they could endure enemy attacks... The supporting types must dodge opposing damage as much as possible. A type two support? Shinratsu frowned. Was he unwittingly following classification, choosing to learn the Shunshin first...?
