Name Origin: The ice was thin. A smarter, wiser totoma would not have crossed the river. This totoma had crossed the river many times during the winter and did not realize the coming spring had thinned and weakened the ice. When he tried to cross, the ice broke. The current was fast, but this totoma did not swim back to the closer bank. This totoma swam to the far shore, breaking the ice as he went. name fine -phoe

Name Origin: In early spring, a frozen lake that the totoma had played on all winter became treacherous. Two younglings were stranded out in the center of the lake, but the ice was so thin that any adult stepping onto it risked breaking through and plunging into the icy water, and possibly taking the foals with them.
