Ren's ears perked from the boy's slight sigh, causing him to eye him slightly. He smiled friendly and changed his focus to the other boy. Both seemed rather eager to learn, but was surprised that only two other students were apparent. He wondered what drove them, being that he showed up a few minutes late. He figured he had done good by introducing himself, even if Andou-sama...no. Andou-sensei, was this person, and as if caterpillar bursting forth from a cocoon, becoming a butterfly...so had the man he met only a day before; however, rather than sprouting wings, he had grown in rank in the eyes of Ren.

Ren's eyes focused on Andou-sensei, as if focusing strongly on what their future together as shinobi would play out, but all he could do is reflect back to the stage in his dream.

Batosai attention quickly turned from Andou to the new faces. There was Gennosuke, who seemed very perky and eager. Sort of reminded him of Hiru. That made him already annoyed and curious, "...Where is Hiru? He alway on time, and never a second late." he thought. It didn't matter now though, but Gennosuke had potential to get on Batosai's nerves, but that would take time for him to be sure of that.

Then there was Ren, who was like him seemed very intelligent and determined. Experience wise, Batosai might have the advantage but he had a gut feeling like there was more to him then meets the eye. He seemed very calm, too calm. Batosai was probably getting paranoid.

Batosai face suddenly looked smug. He was actually trying to fight a smile as his classmates were both looking in becoming medical ninja. It wasn't the idea of iryō- Ninjutsu (medical ninjutsu) that he found funny, that type of jutsu was necessary during times of war. He found it funny because he could see them competing for the top spot as the next best ninja in iryō- Ninjutsu. This term was going to be very interesting and Batosai was along for the ride. His red eyes turned back to Andou, hoiping that he could start the lesson so Batosai can get to the training.

Still drifting away in though, Ren moved his right hand through his bangs, moving them from his eyes almost as if doing it with much conscious thought. Ren lifted his head slightly as well, sitting up in his chair. With this his mind reverted back to reality. This wasn't the time to daydream. It was time to learn. To prove to Andou-sensei and his fellow classmates that he has what it takes. Sure he was feminine and often confused as being a girl, but it didn't make him weak. He had potential and knew very well that he did.

His father was out there watching from a distance. Anything that Ren would ever do, must be under the watchful eye of that man. It was almost unnerving to Ren, but all the while exciting because he had made the long journey here on his own. He would soon find himself going through rigorous training to become a top-ranking medical-ninja. And no one would stand in his way of excelling the standard. He would become worthy of the blood that ran through his veins.

Andou was slightly amused when Batosai turned his determined gaze onto him. Well this was an eager kid! Did he view this whole learning process as some kind of war between Andou and himself? Did he think Andou was deliberately impeding his progress? Interesting... Andou didn't care about the latter two thoughts, but the first one left him with an undefinable expression within his heart. He remembered when he himself was young and idealistic. Well it had passed quickly. How would it be like for Batosai? Still, the way Batosai worded his sentence made it seem like he was giving Andou a challenge. A challenge Andou was willing to accept. Andou's grin widened as he gave Batosai a glance; Batosai, the only remaining student from before the invasion. Andou sincerely hoped he stuck around but what would be, would be.

"Like I said, Hitorki,"
Andou said in reply, "you do what I say, and I get you up to genin standard and through this course." But are you really so eager to face the world out there hmm? Andou wondered cynically as he turned his gaze to Gennosuke, waiting for him to talk. It would be interesting to see how he introduced himself and thus by extension his perception of himself.

A nice guy.. Well, that fit the model of a medic-nin, at least. Andou knew full well that having people like himself become full-time medical caregivers would probably drive the patient crazy, not cure him. He nodded and commented, "That's an admirable goal." Andou was about to continue talking when he was interrupted by a child rushing into the classroom! Ah, late arrivals. Could never start a school day without them!...

Oh, it was Ren. Andou had expected him, but certainly not so soon. He looked carefully at Ren, who showed no signs of the injuries that had weakened him yesterday. Did he heal quickly? Andou filed away that small piece of information into his mind and nodded. "Well... now that we all know each other, at least marginally, we can begin." Did that sound awkward? Andou wasn't exactly a master orator.

He rapped the word on the board behind him. "I just have a very important speech to make to you before we can begin. You know this word, right? 'Shinobi'. It's who we are. It's who you are training to become." Andou picked up his piece of chalk again, and added the characters 忍者 on the board. "Ninja. The same as shinobi. The first character is particularly important." He rapped it with his chalk, leaving flecks of white on the board. "You probably know the meaning of this character when it's connected to words such as 'Nin-jutsu'. Mystical ninja arts. 'Nin-dou'. Your ninja way. Et cetera. What you might not know is the original meaning of this character, its meaning when looked at by itself. This character symbolises all the qualities needed to succeed as a student ninja. Patience. Restraint. Endurance. Exercise them in your training and in your dealings with other people. If you ever think of giving up, don't. As a ninja, your role in life is to endure. That's what I believe. And," Andou's grin turned wider as he unleashed his last sentence upon the class, "that's what you must believe too, if you want to be my student until genin-hood.

"Unfortunately,"
Andou continued without giving Ren, Batosai and Gennosuke much time to react, "I can't arrange for high-risk, exciting training programs for you guys at the moment. Those take a long time to set up and assume you're at a certain level of skill - you guys aren't there yet. Ren and Gennosuke, I want you guys to spend this time learning the hand seals. It's the first exercise traditionally given to new students, and it helps to get your mind into the proper mindset required. The books are there, and you can help yourself." Andou appeared almost too happy as he turned to Batosai. "And as for you... since you seemed to eager to train, and improve yourself, I've arranged for a more physical training exercise. Follow me to the gym."

As he started to move, Andou affixed Ren and Gennosuke with a glare. "I won't conduct supervision on you two," he said. "I trust that you'll work hard to learn the symbols. However, if you do decide to use my class to fool around, take note that I won't wait for you. You have to follow my schedule here and not the other way around. I will teach you how to channel chakra, how to control chakra, how to walk on trees and water. If you don't pay attention to your basics, when you fall it will only be your fault." With another nod, Andou beckoned Batosai to follow him to the gym.

Ren listened intently on what Andou-sensei had addressed, making sure to make a mental note that he is a figure of authority, and thus should not be tempted to grow disappointed in his student, in this case, Ren. He smiled ever sweetly as Andou-sensei led one of the boys away, leaving only Ren and the remaining boy behind to begin learning their hand seals.

Ren wasted no time, he cheerfully stood up and gracefully walked over to the books that he had been instructed to study to learn the seals, thus becoming one step closer to proving his worth to his father. He could not fail...or at least...not without trying his utmost best!

Looking over the instructions on how to perform the hand seals, Ren was personally pleased with how easy the first seal in the book was to learn. Tori, or the Bird, Hand Seal had been performed and so he moved onto his next hand seal.

Utterly failing the apparent complexity of his next hand seal, Ousu-buta, or the Boar, Ren smiled warmly, and recognized the failure as a chance to grow and learn. It was apparent that this little embarrassing moment had mad a slight blush appear on his face. With this is mind, he tried again with the same boundless optimism he was known for.

Ren had a slightly better result this time while attempting to learn the hand seal. He was still a bit clueless as to how the thumbs were to rest, thus making this another failure. He brushed his bangs back a bit and began again, this time paying closer attention to every single detail he could so that he could execute it appropriately.

Once again unable to execute the hand seal properly, Ren chuckled a bit to himself. This reminded him of when his father was explaining how the seal passed down by his clan works. It took him many long days of being drilled with information and diagrams till he finally understood it. This is practically the same thing. Practice and determination are the best ways to overcoming any challenge, however simple it may appear to be. He attempted once again.

Still smiling from before, Ren realizes that this particular seal is actually harder to pull off than he had anticipated. He was to try much harder if he were to really succeed!

Not only did Ren not succeed this hand seal, but actually pinched himself a bit. The pain was immediate and faded quickly, but left Ren with a funny expression on his face. This training was not even life threatening, but a great lesson was being taught regardless. Time to try harder!

Ren had impressed himself slightly. He realized a little bit more about the seal, even though he failed once more. It was awkward for him still, but it seemed like he was getting the hang of it...at least at the moment.

Ren was in fact getting a better handle on the Boar Hand Seal, in fact performed it perfectly! He was happy for the mistakes he had made in attempts past because it gave him a better handling over the seal itself. Ren was excited to begin studying the other hand seals so quickly flipped a couple of pages till he found his next goal.

After Ren's struggle with the Boar Hand Seal, he passed this one fairly easily. He now knew how to execute the Inu, or Dog, Hand Seal! He was now at three out of twelve seals learned! A steady growth seemed to bolster Ren's confidence more than its usual high.

After Ren had succeeded the last sign with general ease, he encountered another hand seal that tripped him up. This hand seal was Dragon, he had no idea how he was going to even get close to doing it correctly. Ren blushed again, knowing that he probably looks silly about now, but puts it aside so that he can learn these all of them.

After giving his mind some time to relax, Ren's smile grew quite wide whenever he realized that he completed the Hand Seal this time with ease! The Ryu, or Dragon, Hand Seal had been successfully learned. It was amazing to him how much he had been learning in just a matter of minutes! He was quite pleased with himself, and acknowledged that even though he is looking quite silly, that this is helping him out big time for his future!
