She hated to admit it, but Amaya was glad that things were starting to click for Ryoko-sensei. At this point of their experimenting, she felt that she herself still didn't quite understand the way this whole style of fighting worked exactly. She had realized one or two key points such as the redirection of force and give and take, But it was still such a foreign concept of fighting. Nevertheless, she wouldn't give-up. She had to focus so that her attack wouldn't get sloppy. A hit or two had gotten through to Ryoko, but Amaya was beginning to figure out that landing hits wasn't really doing anything to progress the technique. IF anything, it only resulted in getting her limbs deflected harshly.
And to that, Amaya took a breather after her kick was shoved aside. She knelt down to rub at her sore shin, then looked to see if he would attack first. It didn't look as if he would, so she stood back to her full height and resumed her charge of attacks. In the interest of conserving energy and focusing on the reactions to her strike, Amaya kept it simple with solid punching strikes.

This time, the deflections wou bbe a bi different. The first few strikes would be pushed aside but this was simply a setup and preparation for the proper strike. When Amaya delivered it, Ryoko was ready.
Just as her last strike came forth, Ryoko took up a stance much like she had at the beginning of all this, no stance at all. The fist came close and ryoko instantly slipped one foot straight back. It was her left foot as Amaya's attack was a left punch. Ryoko then brought up her right arm to deflect the strike but not as hard as the others. This was mearly to get it away from her. Next, Ryoko's left hand came up and rested on top of Amaya's attacking arm. This was in defence to make sure Amaya couldn't convert the punch to a backhand.
The original arm that was used for the deflection, Ryoko's right one, sliped down a bit below Amaya's arm and, with a slight bit of a push off with her back leg, Ryoko's entire body moved just past Amaya's. In the process, Ryoko's right hand converted to a back knuckle and aimed toward Amaya's now exposed rib since Amaya's arm was still in the air.
However, that wasn't the end of it. Just as Ryoko's arm passed by Amaya's ribs, Ryoko lifted the arm a bit and converted the back knuckle to a chop and slamed it down into the point of the neck where the spinal cord begins and the skull ends. Neither of these strikes where hard enough to cause pain but they did connect enough for Amaya to feel them and know what to expect.
"How was that? You feel anything love?"

Once again, another failure... Shinratsu sighed, and glanced back at the area he previously was - which was only about a centimeter or so behind him. What on earth was he doing wrong? He had managed to successfully perform the Shunshin only once so far...and the rest had ended as outright failures or partial successes. How rather discouraging. But dwelling on that alone won't help him progress...
Well...the chakra molding process was done correctly... Then, was there something flawed with how he had harnessed the chakra? Or was perhaps his control weakened, from decomposing his unnatural affinity first before initializing the technique...? Shinratsu looked thoughtful. Should he increase the amount of output chakra? It would be more difficult to control... Heck. If it helps, that was better than standing around here not doing anything.

So Shin tried again, quietly closing his eyes, but after a moment, he opened them again. There was a slight flicker of disappointment in the mystic blue orbs. He couldn't concentrate... To be honest, Shinratsu very well knew that since he began on the Shunshin tonight...after all, he was really exhausted, after enduring two missions in a single day...all hopes of concentration was practically impossible. Perhaps he should allow a brief break. If he cannot calm his mind first...there was no way that he could balance the physical and mental energies of the body for Ninjutsu. So far, he had worked driven with the knowledge that he could perform the Shunshin. But if he was to perfect the progress so far...
Fine. Even if it takes him the whole night, he'll make sure he returns home knowing how to perform the Shunshin. So he took a seat on the earth, in lotus position...it was pretty cold tonight but what he can't feel can't bother him. And even the lotus position itself...children from traditional families generally have much trouble adjusting to meditation hours... It was for all aspects, uncomfortable. Shin couldn't see what their fuss was all about though...meditation at least had helped in his case, as constant concentration sharpening exercises...

As expected, taking meditative position had helped get disturbing elements of nature out of his mind. In the distant, a lone wolf let out a howl to the hanging moon overhead. Shinratsu ignored it. All that was important to him right now was concentrating on his chakra system - combining the energy drawn out from his cell's chakra producing nodes with the energy of the mind, to form chakra. Certainly, even though chakra could be produced subconsciously, focusing in on the process actually helps facilitates it... Well, or at least that was so as he had believed.
An idea popped into mind. Since he was finding it difficult to concentrate, who said he had to leave lotus position anyways? According to the information he concluded from the scroll...the Shunshin could be used in two ways. The first was an internal kei use, that boosts physical speed. The second was a more external kei usage - almost like a Kawarimi performed at a wider ranged - but instead of replacing the user with a targeted object, they instead focused in on a singular space of ground. His only success so far with the Shunshin had been to use it to boost his physical speed...so why not, to try the other?

Just the space in front of him was enough... But rather to be honest, it made him a bit nervous... This, though basic, was a form of time-space manipulation after all. What if...what if say, it was to go wrong...? Even if he did scoff at them...Shinratsu was no stranger to the horror stories of body parts being left behind (Harry Potter, lolz). He grimaced. Now...that seemed a rather unwelcome thought. Maybe he'll be better off just applying Shunshin no Jutsu to physical speed... A long moment of silence passed, and Shinratsu ignored the distant screeching of scorpions. ... He was not a coward! There was a hospital anyways in the village, and besides...how terrible can a technical training error possibly be?
Little did he know - never underestimate just how wrong a training could possibly go. But Shin wouldn't - or rather couldn't - know anyways. Or how a certain orange-headed idiot almost got himself killed... And speaking of which, the dobe had his father with him. Well, perhaps Shin wouldn't end up in exactly the same near lethal comatose state. But that didn't mean he can't seriously hurt himself either, with unsupervised training.

He may have had already decided pretty early on that this Jutsu was trying his patience... But that still didn't make reality any less irritating. An eyebrow twitched. Failure, failure. Didn't even move an inch... And he was wasting chakra with the passing time... All right. Perhaps he was being a little picky. After all, this was the first time he was attempting a technique on his own, without any supervision from an older shinobi. Though he didn't need to, as the information from the scroll had remained imprinted into his mind, Shinratsu took it out anyways...as if staring at the rice paper would do any more good than his current piling amount of failed attempts concluded...
Perhaps he missed a point. Perhaps there was something he did not know. Oh, who was he kidding. This was a mere D-rank technique - only one level above that of the Academy Jutsus. And currently...the scanty information he possessed in his hands was rapidly contributing to a growing tick mark on his temple. Shinratsu folded his arms. Perhaps he will have better luck with elemental manipulation later. But since he knows chakra control shouldn't be the problem here as his was quite stellar for a rookie Genin...
Then the problem must simply lay in approach. Even the best Ninjutsu masters need every ounce of concentration they could get when offensively combating opponents... The Jounins and higher ups may make it seem effortless, but he knew better. This wasn't a time for simple memorization, the 'easy learning' of the Academy days. It should be the same for any technique: hard work, frugality, and patience shall all be well awarded.
His mind calmed. That's fine, then... Even if success will be more challenging to obtain now...even if the next trail and the trail after that will be a failure... As long as he kept working, as long as he didn't give up...there was nothing stopping him from completing this technique.

He proceeded his next trail with caution: from the molding process to the drawing and actual manipulation, all the while maintaining careful control over the chakra output, not a moment breaking his concentration. And soon enough...his careful preparation efforts proved fruitful. Now a feet away from his previous position, though Shinratsu did not look back nor did any indication show on his face...he was encouraged by the success. If he continues working at a steady pace, perhaps he might be even done a bit sooner than expected. But there was no rush. Though he did not tell Giglamesh nor Keiko of why he stayed out so late into the night, he had a feeling the Chuunin knew he was constantly reaching for self-improvement: when not through time spent with the team, then also through time spent alone.
Giglamesh might not approve...but Shinratsu believed that even now, there should still be a balance...a line to separate team training and solo training. While working as a team was one thing, without the necessary skills for the proper input in the first place, that would make teamwork even more difficult. Of course, that wasn't his only reason for striving to acquire a vast arsenal.
He had no intention to remain a supporting type...while it's true Shunshin was only a stepping stone for him towards greater goals...it was a necessity, though a fundamental asset, and he was determined to acquire it.

A nervous bead of sweat formed at his temple, as Shinratsu concentrated, willing himself to pay no mind to the howling wind over the plateau or the noises of the animals. But to no avail...the Shunshin would not initiate. Perhaps... Perhaps the village itself would've been a better choice for Shunshin training. The further the night progressed, the shadows on the earth lengthening...Shinratsu suspected there were probably quite a couple of species wandering around the area, unknown to him because he had not been able to do any additional reading, and probably...species he may not want to encounter. Though Zephyr did rescue him from internal poisoning during the scorpion round-up incident, that didn't mean the Hokage didn't take the liberation to *very happily* tell him horror stories of giant scorpions around ten or twenty times bigger of the ones he fought...
And he believed him. Shin paled slightly. Maybe it'll be better off if he works on the Shunshin back in the village... If he runs across a nasty encounter with one of the native species now...there was a problem, considering the hospital was very well - closed - at this time of the night.

Patta patta. Feather light footsteps echoed into the rocky walls, resounding and disturbing the silence elsewhere.
Well...since he will be walking back to the village anyways... Why don't he integrate training the Shunshin with the walk? Calmly proceeding back to Iwa's northern gates, with the moonlight gently lighting the rocky path ahead of him... Shinratsu held up two fingers in a half Tiger seal formation and began the process of molding the raw chakra...preparing that chakra for use...before he drew it out for the Jutsu. The targeted destination he kept small, generally only a mere foot away from him. He had to make do, after all, to accompany his modest chakra reserves. But he didn't mind.
Even if he does not complete the Shunshin by the time he reenters the gates, he'll just go practice in the town square.

Almost there... Draw out the chakra, let it envelop and then...! Shinratsu suddenly ducked, feeling the wind around him shift, and soon enough an owl swooped over his head and into the darkness. What the... For a moment, a veinpop threatened to form on his temple and in a fit of childish temper, never had he been so tempted to go after a bird... So instead, he settled for a 'harumph' and continued with his walk. But because the manipulation process was disturbed...he'll have to start over again.

To be honest, he was a bit curious though... Shinratsu briefly wondered where the owl was going...it seemed to be...almost in a hurry? That's when...the silence of the night was split by a loud shriek. A huge, no, colossal scorpion...was coming in this direction! Just his luck. Gritting his teeth, Shinratsu formed the full Tiger handseal this time and while running, focused whatever fragments of concentration he had left to escaping from this rampaging thing's path... Why the heck did Iwa have to have such huge insects anyways? And speaking of which...that owl...in its claws, didn't it carry off a baby scorpion...?
But one thing was for certain. Never mess with mama scorpion.

Not that Shunshin helped very much... Gave him about a quarter of a centimeter boost...but he'll have to hurry before that thing crashes into the clearing. And well...since he had already tasted first-hand just how fast those damned things were... The ones he fought were merely newborns, too! He was nowhere near prepared to face a full grown, full sized adult. A sweatdrop formed at his temple as Shinratsu picked up speed. If he cannot use the Shunshin, what he could do was to run. And so run he did.

The weights of his uniform... All right, this was ridiculous. The weights were taking a toll on his speed...and Shinratsu was almost certain that soon enough, the scorpion would arrive into the clearing... Should he look for a hiding place? What was he talking about! This was not Kiri! Only rocks, only rocks as far as the eye could see... He'll...he'll have to rely on the Shunshin... His hands found the familiar position for the Tiger seal. Work, work!
