☽ Emma's ears twitched and she leaned her head back to look up at Herald "Ah? Yeah! I am fine. Just a little cold that's all..." she said with a small smile before quickly rubbing her arms with her hands to try and warm herself up. Maybe she was getting a little bug or something. It didn't seem that cold out. "I hope it wasn't my fault that he was like that..." she said, going back to the original topic. ☾

Never Again..."It wasn't," Herald assured Emma. "If anything, it would have been mine." He frowned as he thought though he couldn't figure out exactly what it could have been. It was definitely something that he would want to avoid in the future. Herald reached down and put his arms around Emma. "We'll be sure to prevent it, whatever it was." Will I be bound in chains

☽ Emma shivered slightly again as she heard Herald. She continued to stare up at him and nodded "Yeah, we will figure things out when the time comes," she replied with a smile. When Herald wrapped his arms around her, Emma placed her hands on his and closed her eyes as she leaned against Herald. "Chris seemed very nice though. Sarah too..." ☾

Never Again..."Nice?" Herald asked. "What do you mean?" Unlike Emma he had never talked with Chris outside their brief encounter when they had first arrived in the future timeline. Will I be bound in chains

☽ Emma opened one eye and looked up at Herald again. "I mean he seemed like a very nice kid. It sounded like Sarah and Chris got along well and besides his lack of confidence in himself, he seemed very kind and had a good head on his shoulders. Some of the pictures that were hanging up in their home seemed to say so as well," she explained. She closed her eyes again and took a deep breath. She was quiet for a few moments as she thought back to how Chris was during the times she saw him "He seemed really upset after you two fought... I can see why though... I think one of the reasons he was lacking in confidence is because the person he really wanted praise and recognition from wasn't there. After years of building up his strength on his own which must have been hard for him, he finally saw the person he admired most again only to be defeated by him and called weak..." Emma's stomach sunk as she recalled how broken Chris seemed after his fight with Herald. ☾

Never Again...Herald raised an eyebrow as he heard Emma. "But he was weak," he replied. "Not in physical strength or resonance force; he had more than I did. But his heart lacked courage or conviction. He wasn't willing to push himself as far as he could. It was the truth? Why lie? Then he would never become stronger." Such an explanation seemed completely logical to Herald. "If he desires praise from me so much then he should get stronger." Will I be bound in chains

☽ Emma sighed "Alright... so imagine I die... this is just rhetorical. Don't worry. Anyway. Say I die... and you go on on your own for many years. Suddenly, on a random day, you see me. I am alive. I bet that would be very emotional right? Wrong. The first thing I do is smack you and then send a bunch of insults towards your direction about you not being strong and such... Would that feel good?" Emma asked, her eyes still closed. "'You are weak' That was the last thing he really heard from you because then we went off fighting and we went back to our time. How is he going to get strong if the one time he had a chance to prove himself to his dad ended up turning sour and he was told by his dad that he was weak. I know you like tough love but I don't think that really helped him." ☾

Never Again...Herald was silent for a moment as he seemed to be pondering what Emma had said. "I didn't realize it would be the last time I would get to talk to him," he told her honestly. "But...if you called me weak after all that time, I would ask you why you thought that. And if I believed you were right I would try to become stronger. If I believed you were wrong I would challenge you to prove yourself right. Of course it would hurt me, but you would be showing me that I need to become stronger, right?" Will I be bound in chains

☽ Emma listened to Herald quietly before speaking "I can see where you are coming from. You have to understand that Chris and Sarah are not exactly like you are. They both have different ways of thinking. Their experiences are different from yours. Chris most likely never even thought to prove you wrong or ask why you thought the way you did," she explained. ☾

Never Again...Herald was silent. "Different ways of thinking..." he mused. "Why wouldn't he? I don't understand what you mean by different experiences. Obviously, they didn't grow up in the Arenas but Sarah seems to have learned how to be strong." Will I be bound in chains

☽ Emma kept her eyes closed still. She sighed again "Everyone is shaped from experiences. You. Me. Them. Your experiences have shaped you into who you are now. Same for me. Sarah and Chris experienced something completely different though. They grew up in a way more normal kids would and they developed their own different ways to cope to different situations." Emma frowned slightly "It is... a bit difficult to explain... Just assume that everyone thinks differently than you do. It is just how things are. He ended up taking your comments about him directly to heart instead of brushing it off like you or Sarah would." ☾

Never Again...Herald narrowed his eyes in thought as he listened to Emma's words. He was silent for a while afterwards. "I don't get it," he said finally. "I understand that they are their own people and that even with Atlas their lives were more peaceful growing up, but clearly Chris had training and combat experience. He surely knew what he was capable of. Yet for some reason he didn't seem to. That doesn't make sense, regardless of who you are. How can you witness yourself become stronger and not see it?" Will I be bound in chains

☽ Emma shrugged "It could be many things... I think the main one was that the one person that could show him how strong he could be was not there," she replied. "He was confused... like he didn't know what he was fighting for... He didn't know what to use his strength for..." Emma paused for a moment, the image of Chris breaking down in front of her kept replaying in her head "I don't want to see him like that here..." ☾

Never Again...Herald looked back down at Emma. "It won't," he promised. "I don't understand but...I'll be here. I won't leave him to doubt himself or give up. I'll show him how to be strong and he will fear nothing. He and Sarah both." He gave Emma a smile. "We'll take care of them together. You should...show them how to be gentle sometimes too..." he added, surprising himself. Teaching someone to be gentle was not something Herald was known for advocating. "They should be able to be at peace when they are not in battle. And have friends as well."Will I be bound in chains
