"Well.... I have been seriously thinking of practicing more archery, I hadn't really had a chance with all the other lessons."
And tangents and stuff, but that was something she would like to focus on more. Unless she wanted to learn combative magic, she was still on the fence about that. Miyuki always figured it took a lot more skill, and she couldn't even do a rune using pure magic yet.
Granted as her Alassea would say, it's always hard, but you try regardless.
"I've tried all bladed weapons when you were little and before you were born. I'm not hopeless, but I'm not great. I've been thinking about combat magic, but I'm not sure."
Setting her brush and ink aside she rubbed her forehead thoughtfully.
"Granted, I know Auntie Feng and Uncle Ryu do know some Gaian styles, and Auntie Feng does know a weapon I haven't tried yet...."
Shoving that thought aside for a moment she lightly brushed her fingers against the newly drawn rune, pushing her magic into it. It would make it permanent and would do what she wanted it to do.
"It's alright to think about asking, and you should," Miyuki added once she was finished, "It's just... what do we learn?"

Andarien's face grew warm and his gaze dropped to the floor. He shuffled his feet awkwardly.
"I don't know," he admitted. "I don't really want to learn one ... and I haven't practiced my archery at all. But ..."
He frowned. "But I don't want to feel as helpless as when those dragons came after us." It was the first time since the incident that he had spoken about it, and his voice was shaking, but he pushed himself to continue. "I hated feeling like that, and leaving you and Aranxia behind ... and I don't want that to happen again. And who knows what's in the other land we're going to?"

That was a good point, and Miyuki wasn't sure how to respond to that. She understood why he didn't want to learn one, because Andarien was worse than her when it came to learning how to fight. At least she could learn, though she would never have the skill her parents have.
"Well.... I mean... I am learning how to fight, but I've always been on the side working on ways using magic to help me, because I simply am not as great like mom and ada. I can't use a blade.... and I don't even know if my ideas work, but..."
It was better than nothing, she had to learn something to help her and if she couldn't fight she would use magic.

"But you at least can already use a staff," Andarien pointed out. "That's already a lot more than I can do. I can't do anything. All I can do-"
His voice cracked and he looked away in shame. "All I can do," he started again, quietly now, "is run away."
And it was eating at his mind.

Now that her runing was done, Miyuki wandered over to Andarien's bed and sat on the edge. She understood how that was bothering him, it would be hard for him to adapt and learn more because he's always had such a hard time.
"I'd say keep up the archery, long distance and good aim will take down people better than close combat," she told him, "But you know... you know a lot of stuff... maybe there's something you can make to help you."
Like the way she was trying with runes.

Andarien blinked and moved to sit next to his sister. "Make something?" he repeated. "Like what?"
He wasn't sure he understood. "Like how I made the watches?" he asked slowly.
His mind was already trying to work through something he could design to help defend him. He didn't have any ideas, but he was trying.

"Well...."
She tried to think of it, she didn't know much about weapons.
"Like the hard part about archery isn't always the aiming, it's the pulling back the string because it takes a lot of strength... and they're really large bows... even the recurve bows are kind of large. If there was a way for the string to be pulled back mechanically.... I have no clue how that would work."
She paused and thought a bit more, it was probably a silly idea.
"I really don't know, but... I heard a story once from... I think it was Uncle Triton. How Grandfather brought Gaian technology into the Four Lands and they were attacked, and he used something that made a huge bang and it scared off the attackers. I think it also hurt some of them, I'm not sure how that works neither, but... there are... what's the term... chemicals? That make a big bang when mixed right?"

"I guess," Andarien admitted, "but I don't know much about chemicals. Shiro would know."
He paused. "Maybe we should ask him ... and we should probably ask him about the crystal so that we have time to talk to Nana and Ada before dinner."
He shifted the crystal from one hand to the other and rose from the edge of the bed.

"Alright," Miyuki nodded at this as she also stood up.
She hoped it would help him, she understood how Andarien was feeling, even though there was more she could do about it.
"Let's go, I bet he's in his room too."

Shiro was indeed in his room, and he received his cousins cheerfully. But when Andarien showed Shiro the crystal piece that he had, rather than answering any questions, Shiro asked Andarien exactly where he had gotten it. Then, without an explanation, he hurried out of the room.
Kaito just laughed.
"Just watch, he's going to get more for himself and you won't get any explanations until he's got as much as he wants," he grinned.

"Are they that unusual?" Miyuki asked.
She figured it was something familiar that Shiro might know about, but if he had to hurry out to get more then it might be new even to him.

Kaito stretched his arms above his head and moved to join the two. "Not so much unusual as important," he shrugged. "I remember the last time we were here, when your parents explored the one cave ... they mentioned the crystals when they got back. I guess I forgot to mention them to Shiro, but lately he's been commenting about ... well, stuff. I'll let him explain it to you."
He grinned cattily at Andarien. "Let's just say, I think you'll like your lessons when we're back on ship, if Shiro gets enough of the crystal to satisfy him."

Miyuki could tell that Kaito knew something that they didn't, and he wasn't going to tell them.
"A lot of science stuff?" she guessed.
Since Kaito wasn't being forthcoming on it at all.

"Yup." Kaito flicked his tail playfully, his yellow eyes gleaming. He rather enjoyed being secretive.
Andarien was half annoyed with Kaito and half distracted with his other thoughts.
"Mi, maybe we should just talk to Nana and Ada for now," he said, turning to her. "Then at least we can get something done this afternoon."

Since their cousin was being of little help at the moment Miyuki nodded.
"Alright then," she replied, "Onto their room then."
If they were lucky, their parents were still packing since they sort of had more stuff than them. She bid goodbye to Kaito and led the way out.
