That was odd.

It still confuses the hell out of me how people think that understanding advanced theoretical physics will help you in a fight. Basic understanding of physics and momentum will, yes--but the wholly theoretical sciences?

Edit: So why apply those high-level sciences to something they have no actual bearing on--combat?

I think it comes from the idea that the only way to beat something is to do something like it. Which doesn't make sense as that kills originality.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with using metahuman abilities for a character, as I do it too--but it just doesn't make much sense to me for metaphysics (psionics and alternate realities) to be mixed with advanced physics theories, and then accepted as a combative discipline.

But you're right--the whole "fight fire with fire" idea, while effective, isn't exactly original, but then you get into the question of why such people roleplay in the first place. xd

Neh. Knowing a science can help, but only if you admit it isn't flawless. Plus, basing your battles solely on just one principle will get you beat, eventually; because there will be a flaw in it, and anyone getting serious about a match will study previous ones in which that "theory" is used in order to see the weak points of it, until you've got a situation on your hands.

My enlisted character, for example, is no Alchemist. Nothing of the sort. Yet, he knows enough about the periodic table, to know what one of his chief abilities can cause. Yet, if I have to do something else to get the job done? I do so, if possible.

Certain 'planar mages'/'psionic users' merely get angry when an ability of the sort fails, even for justified reasons, and argue for a good couple of days until someone's disqualified - because they refuse to think outside that one ability set/'box'. domokun

Or they disappear when you're about to punch them in the temple.

Amusing. I myself employ basic concepts of science in my rping. It's a natural thing consider how I treat things; but that doesn't mean I won't engage in the reality bending ******** over physical laws of magic that I can do. Truly I believe that a bit of knowlege in general science and different sci fi ideas can help increase your abilities to toy with the fantasy aspects of rp.

More like they've never actually ended up in a fight with a mutually-agreed-upon judge, despite the fact I ASKED for judges because I KNEW how my fight with Ertai would end.

Eeeeeexactly on both counts. Nice to see you not angry, Gelmax.

Anonymoo: Well, it stands to reason. Most planar mages won't wanna end up like Sendo, it'd hurt their ego. domokun

Nihilistic: Agreed. Though, general knowledge of certain aspects of physics, "Laws", etc. can help greatly in these matches, if pulled right. I'm still waiting until I come into a match where I deem it necessary to specify that it's raining. domokun

Binatica: Unfortunately, with Clash being gone to good ol' Yellow Brick Road, things aren't gonna be managed 100% right, by any means. If Ertai's really giving you a shitty time with things, my only advice [I've not checked your match, so judging by how it sounds, something royally ******** up's already occured,] is to refrain from doing anything debatable. Make sure your every action can't be called on vaguity, and that what damage you cause can't be debated over. [56k=Typos. Definetely.]

And dammit, need to buckle down and finish up my profiles. I just wish Vincent hadn't been cannonly-killed prior to this tournament; judging by how things've gone, he'd've murdered in Commerce. crying

For the next four weeks, I will be busy dealing with a guy with sharks for hands, a drunken Japanese girl, a guy named Clobberfist, and a succubus who I've known for a bit too long. xd

I'm also hoping that ye olde persistent Void rival Phill loses his damn sword. Whatever he loses will only improve his character. xd

MOOO!

Damn, he's offline. ~:Goes off onto MAME:~

Well, I know my opponent will lose if he continues the match and will only win when he doesn't. Such a pity, I wanted for Genshin to have a rival. Oh well...
