She had no choice but to concede that one, and still felt about it too. Natural stubborness and defiance had almost cost her one baby and then her own life. She'd scared the hell out of Sevilin and ended up on bedrest for a good two weeks on top of everything else. It had not been a pleasant time in either their marriage or their lives. And she'd dealt with an additional two weeks of the silent treatment. Her eyes began to drift as the baby's motions slowed and lulled her into a relaxed state. "I s'pose not, but I'm still lucky."
"Hmm...that could be a polite blowing you off yet using the smooth veneer or possibly testing to see if you would chase. Women are complicated but they like to be chased. Thus, she could have easily been presenting you with the chase." He checked the time once again and realized they were about five minutes to spare. "Get ready to tuck and roll. I'll take care of your horse but you've got to go." Reining Destyny in, he reached over and shoved his friend hard to unseat him, then took hold of Kerick's reins and led him to the stable. "Go!" he hissed. "Through the window. Climb the trellis and slip in. You're almost out of time!"

"there are other reasons and you know that. it's not just him accidentally slipping behind a door, but something behind a door accidentally slipping out or looking for him."
then a shrug.
"But your probably right. either way, time is almost up..you want to come with?"
getting himself up and starting for the boys room. smirking back at hsi wife.
"And from the way Isle tells it, you were more than just that. you were a certifiable demoness."

"Luck isn't the best thing to bank on dear." Jostling her lightly in his hold, and chuckling lightly. "The point is, you don't need to let him get to you. He's big enough to tie his own boots and everything. Just remembr that and let him whine, don't let him use it against you. If he does, well just send him to me."
"Tuck and roll?" Before a yelp as he was shoved off of his horse and did indeed go rolling. But he got himself up quick like and then headed for the wall, climbing himself up and working his window open, tumbling through the window. Scrambling up, he kicked off his boots and grabbed his book, plopping in his bed and looking occupied.
"You have to trust that those things aren't going to happen A'mael." She understood his concern, but still. Squeezing his hand before taking thier son from him as he stood, settling the toddler on her hip. "Yes of course I want to...after all I have the feeling that this is the only way I'm going to know things." He'd know if she was uspset about it later. A smile though. "Well...I was rebellious and trying to find where I fit in. Was bound to cause some trouble."

She sat back up and blinked for a moment, then chuckled when she realized he'd jolted her back from almost falling into reverie. She lightly rocked Kelligrin, realizing he, too, had fallen into reverie. His toes were curled in their footed pajamas and he was out. She handed him to his father and reached behind her, retying her nightgown, then cuddling up to her husband. "Uh-oh, not big bad Dad. What would you do to him?"
Zykariel led Kerick to the stable and settled him in for the night, taking off his saddle and shelving it, then hopped on Destyny and urged her back off down the trail to his own house. He stabled his own horse and then snuck back into the house and up to his room, flopping on his bed and curling up with his pillow. They probably didn't even know he was gone.

"I don't trust in things I can't control..I won't have one unlucky moment scar my oldest son for life...besides we've already discussed and come to the agreement he'll get to commune with me when he's eighteen. he'll get all the scarring he'll need then."
a shake of his head.
"Some? would you like to see the list from the Brigade? Isle keeps it like some human mother's keep their children's favorite toys."
before a knock on his son's door.
"Still in there?"

"Creative distracting from one thing to another thing." Giving a nod to that, and then looking to his son whom he held and didn't seem to want to be settling down anytime soon...good thing they only needed four hours of reverie. Though his eyes did divert for a moment before looking back to Zahara, dropping a kiss on her head. "Zykariel's back."
Piper merely smiled, sighed lightly and shook her head. Malik was always so worried about his children somehow ending up hating him...old drow thing she supposed. "Alright, A'mael, you can live by your deal with him. Just don't lock yourself up from them, okay? I handled just fine after all." And she'd seen a lot of the ugly aspects of her husband. But a roll of her eyes and a snickering chuckle. "Well, everyone has thier hobby, and I didn't cause nearly as much trouble as you have there." Victory.
He looked up from his book to the knock on his door, damn that was perfect timing now wasn't it? Much indeed, oh was he pleased with himself. He didn't sneak out often, but from time to time he got talked into it. Marking his page, he got up and opened his door to smile at his parents. "Yup, just finishing up my chapter." Eagerness being contained.

Malik looked at him with a careful eye, and noted a few things that gave away he'd not been in there all the time. but that wasn't a big deal then...oh he was getting the couch for a long time after this he was sure.
"Then come with me and your mother. we're going to have a talk in the arena. then we'll see about your blade."
already heading that way. yep, it was going to be the couch for him for a few years after this probably.

"Sure you would. Because that's how much you love horses and his racing. I know you, Sevilin, there would be lots of lectures about responsibility and such." She watched him for a moment as he held Kelligrin and realized that she wasn't getting that baby back anytime soon. She blinked for a moment as he announced things and then checked her mental bonds. Girls were in reverie and sure enough Kariel was creeping up the stairs. "Going to let him get away with it?"

Happily enough he trotted out of his room and down to the arena with his parents and little brother in tow happily enough, all anxious and what not. "Sooo, do I get one? Hm?" Because well, he honestly deserved one, what with all the work he'd been doing and with all the commitment as well that he had been putting in. All excited.
Piper bit her lip a moment, she definately didn't have a good feeling about this. Malik was too quiet about it, but she would find otu wouldn't she? But she didn't want to be the bad guy...was never a fun position.
"Lectures don't get through his head. The boy is a lot like you and it takes a special route to get to him." Letting his younger son grip at his finger and such as he held him. "Yes, in fact I am. Let him think he's getting away with it...he'll get a rude awakening sooner or later that I know more than I let on."

Malik walked over a bit from his son, and watched him carefully.
"Power comes in many forms. magic, knowledge, and steel are a few. but all of them require discipline. and that is what a blade teaches. control, discipline, and self-defense. A blade is only as powerful as it's wielder, in most cases. in some...the blade empowers his master, and others, the blade is the master."
placing his hands behind his back casually.
"There are things that define who we are. they aren't from the outside world, but inside. your will, your inner strength and you own morality. And I have been to the darkest depths of myself, and I have risen to heights that are often only a dream to drow or Tier'dal."
Looking to his wife on that one with a small smile, then back to his son.
"Long ago, before I ever laid eyes on your mother, before I ever even had the opportunity to set foot on a plane outside Norrath, my father left for me a weapon. a weapon I have wielded in countless battles, in many wars. I know you know of what I speak."
a completely serious look to his face.
"What do you know, and tell me in your own words, from your own heart, about Malvolence. tell me what you innerself believes, what your innerself wonders, about that blade."

She hated hearing things like that because then it made her feel like a child when she was 'punished.' Of course she deserved it but that wasn't the point. She hated the breach that had formed between father and son, especially when they'd been so close when Zykariel had been younger. Glancing over at him for a moment, she was struck by a memory of a much younger Zykariel in the very same position. Encouraging her son to go more for horses than anything else had been a mistake. Maybe it was time to talk to him. "Just don't make any decisions without me. I'd rather stand by you and punish him than have him come back to me and be put in the middle. Don't do that to me."

Hm, it was going to be one of those moments wasn't it? Yup, seeing the way that Malik was building it up for his son, which was a rather nice thing indeed. And she returned his smile...before it faded in light of information that he was then giving. He wouldn't...would he? He would of said something to her right? Then again, no he wouldn't. Now she could do one of two things...walk away and learn of fates later, or interject and possibly make things highly uncomfortable for all. Adjusting her hold on Dhairiss, whom made a noise and tugged at her collar, she gave him a look. "Let's get you ready for bed, hm?" Giving a final look to father and son before exiting the arena. She wasn't going to stand around and watch what could possibly happen...and she was sure Malik was going to be filling her in on this all in some fashion, be in apology or trying to get her to see reason. Damn sword.
He didn't even seem to notice his mother leaving, having straightened his stance and taking on that more serious look as he father more or less started into speech...though inside he was jumping around like a toddler who just got a cookie. After all, this surely meant that he was getting what he had been working so hard for. But a nod at his father as he continued, yup he knew. Malvolence. The blade that was almost a mystery to him. He knew mom hated it for some reason and that he wasn't allowed to touch it. As a little elf he had been warded away from it like it was a sacred object that only those privilaged enough got to touch, or even gaze upon. Was his father implying that he was passing it down as his father had to him?
His eyes took on that thinking look that he perhaps picked up from his grandfather. "Well...I know that only you, or mom in some cases, is allowed to touch it. I'm not allowed near it, let alone look at it when it's not at your hip or if you're weilding it for some reason." Another thinking look, seeing as he had an opportunity before him to learn about the more or less forbidden object. "It upsets mom, I've heard you two fight about it once or twice before. I can't figure out why...it's just a sword, yeah swords can be dangerous but only if you don't know how to use them. It's got some nifty tricks up its sleeve and a rather dark look to it. You use it to telepath..." Contemplating more to see if he could bring up anything else. Then he pinned his father with a direct look, silvery gray keeping steel. "What's the secret about it?" He knew there was one...had to be.
"I'm not going to put you in the middle Sweetheart. And I'm not making any life altering or changing descisions. The boy does have chores to do and he still has to do things asked of him, I'm just going to capitalize on that for a day or two and test how he handles it. But I promise you that I'm not going to push too far. Since when have I ever pushed?"

She moved a little closer and rested her cheek against his arm, reaching out and pushing her fingers through Kelligrin's hair. "That's what worries me the most, Raven. You never push but here it seems like you're getting ready to and I just don't want to see your relationship with him suffer anymore than it already has. You two were always together when he was little, so much so that I almost felt left out at times. Now, he doesn't even give you the time of day." Sighing softly, she glanced down at the baby and noticed his eyes were opened again and he was moving his fist, still clutched to his father's finger. "I just worry too much..."

He sighed lightly at his wife leaving...but listened to his son.
"Malvolence was forged with forbidden arts. within Malvolence rests the soul of a might vampire, named T'haen. that is how I am granted telepathy, among other things. though battle, and death, the power of Malvolence grows. it feeds on blood, on hate, and pain."
he was serious, and his voice said that his son better be paying attention.
"It was fused with the blood of my father's prized slave, and the creature that slaughtered twelves families to the last child, and mine to me alone, to prevent my father's bloodline from passing on. through that infusion, strengthened later, Malvolence can siphon power from those it slays. my strength is nearly tripled, as are my reflexes when weilding that sword. and I can use my magical talents without need for word or other components save my will and thought. but there is a price to pay."
and yes, he was keeping his link to his wife open enough so she could hear this thoughts, the words as they came from mind to mouth.
"Malvolence is addictive. potent as any drug, and so powerful that if enough time passes...one can be bound to the blade forever. and Malvolence must feed. and it will feed...by making your lust for blood and battle all-consuming if you can't manage it. a weak mind or will does not wield Malvolence, but Malvolence wields them."
"It is the only heirloom of my family that survived the 'Curse of House D'vinn' as it was called. That is the power, and the burden, of Malvolence. Now I want you to consider what I have told you carefully. You have indeed proved yourself worthy of wielding a proper blade. and as you know, in my vault I have many magical weapons. including this one."
Malik gestured forward, and two servants, both armorer Tier'dal, came forth. both carried swords resting in the flat of both hands. one was Malvolence. the other was a copy of Malvolence, but the etire thing was black..though it had flickering blue flame along the blade.
"Ebony is the Shadow of Malvolence. I have been working on it with Sevilin, and several of my necromancers for years. and with Broog included, We have managed to siphon and duplicate all the essences that make malvolence so potent a weapon, without it's heavy burdens. However it will not gain anymore power than it possesses now. this blade will never grow stronger or more potent as Malvolence might."
picking up Ebony, watching the blade burst into blue flame, cold and without warmth...and then Malvolence, which pulsed with bloodlust and warmth of the red substance it craved...before resting them both back down.
"You have three choices before you. I can pass Malvolence on to you. I can give you Ebony. or, you can choose your own blade from the Vault. think carefully, take as much time as you need, and when you are ready you can tell me which path you choose."

"It's a teenage thing as I've been informed. And no, I'm not as fun as you are and I don't let him do all the little things he wants to do, but he has to learn that he can't just do what he wants. And I'm not going to push, I promise you. He can push and shove at me all he wants and I'm not going to do it back. I'm really the last one to force anyone to do anything unless I have a very explicit reason to do so. You know that. I just don't want him to find himself one say without his racing and without other options."
He'd never been shy to sue the bonds between them when he needed to, and her telepathy, crippled as it may be, pickd right up on it all just as he told his side of the bond to make sure she knew. Forcing her to listen because they both knew, she wasn't going to stand there and listen but also she wouldn't cut off that link between them. Dhairiss settled in his bed, she was laying next to him, rubbing at his back and waiting for him to drop off, even as she 'listened' to what was going on. Despite the warnings, the cautions, and the decisions being presented...she didn't find herself any less upset. He had left her out of the loop, because he knew how she would feel about it and still he did it....she was takign reverie in the nursery with the baby tonight...
The boy was utterly shocked...there was no other way to describe the look on his face or how all of this went down...first it merely started off with explainations of why things had been the way they were with the sword, what it did and why it did it. Why dad always had it and such...and that had slowly dissolved into an offer of that very blade, or it's shadow, or something else. One could see the indecision in the boy's eyes as he was given his options and final notes on it all...that was quite the task put on his shoulders.
Though a lot made sense now about it all. A look to Malvolence, his father's sword. Dad was willing to pass that up...but what would happen to him? Did that sword have a hold on him and by taking it would Malikhai be doign something better left undone? And then Ebony...everything that Malvolence was, but it lacked rather strange needs and the ability to grow more on it's own. It was like Malvolence in heirloom sense...his father had used both blades, he khew that. Ebony may not be the real thing, but his father had apparently been working on it for him...or had it been for himself should Malikhai take Malvolence? Oh this was getting confusing...though he knew he really didn't want vault stuff...that was stuff dad passed out on a whim, nothing of real family value...oh the confusion of the decision...but his father had given him one saving grace. Time.
Walking over, he looked at both blades in critical fashion, hadn reaching out and hesitating over one then the other, before droppign back to his side. "I...I need to take the night to think on it, dad." No not so sure how excited he was anymore...he'd been waiting for this for a while now and now here it was...and he wanted to think on it. To pick right off would be rash, but he knew not to drag his feet either. Which was why he had given himself till morning as well. "I promise I'll have an answer for you by then." Flashing his father a smile though. "Thanks dad, really."
And by the next morning, that boy was pacing his room still, thinking things over till the very last second he had to do so. Which would probably be breakfast, or dad would come find him before then. Point is he knew it was dark and early and he knew how long he had till breakfast and he needed to solidify his decisions.
Piper had indeed kept herself in that nursery with Dhairiss the whole night. She couldn't help but be upset over the turn of events. It was bad enough that it was about Malvolence but even more so that Malik didn't tell her about it. And that she hadn't picked up on it...he'd been meandering about without that sword for a while, she just though it was because of Dhairiss and his current tendency to get into everything since he could walk and run now and such. Up and dressed already, having woken and dressed Dhairiss as well, she was holding him as he was drinkign some juice from a sippy cup. Leaving the nursery she made her way downstairs to get Dhairiss breakfast...sometimes it was just easier to feed him then have her own breakfast.
