Scyther swiped his arm at the sprite little Natu, but let out a surprised and angry grunt as he hit nothing but dirt. A little embarrassed, his flustered look turned to that of annoyance as he was hit by the Night Shade. A cold chill ran up his body as he felt the life drain from him. He shook it off, a weird feeling rushing over his body. It wasn't pain, but he felt a bit of difficulty lifting his arms. "Focus Scyther! Use your Cut attack!" Bugsy was not about to let a Psychic Pokemon outclass him, even if it was a bird.

So, the Natu liked to fancy himself a speedster? He'd show him. Lowering his head, the Bug Pokemon tucked in his body, glaring at his foe. The next instant, he vanished, blades of grass and an assortment of petals rushed to fill the space he just occupied. Mere seconds later Scyther was behind the Natu, his namesake scythe arm high in the air. With a high pitched yell, the Mantis thrust downward, aiming for the bird's wing.

"Li'l guy, watch out!" Ky yelled, almost losing his attention to gawk at the Scyther's speed. During the split second in which the Scyther brought his guillotine-like arm down, Little Guy looked in panic at where it was aiming. In pure instinct, he tucked his wings into a barrel roll, screeching as he felt a good deal of his feathers shave off, which could be seen by the trainers as they left a green-colored trail from Little Guy's flight path.

Having lost the lift from his wings, Little Guy brought his talons down to catch himself as he made for an emergency landing. Unfortunately, his gained speed proved difficult to control as he crashed and rolled into the dirt, eventually coming to a stop. He then hopped up, turning to face his opponent. With a small and quick stretch, he checked the condition of his right wing. It was a close shave indeed, showing the rarely-seen skin of the Tiny-bird as a red patch on top of his wing. Tucking it back in, Little Guy then glared at the Scyther, who now towered far above him, waiting for Ky's command.

Ky took a moment to ponder until he found a solution. "Li'l Guy! Teleport to that tree behind you!" Ky ordered, pointing to one of the closest trees which happened to be holding Bugsy's hammock. Little Guy quickly looked back, gathering in his destination. His eyes then closed and a pink glow enveloped him, making him disappear from Scyther's feet and reappear on the nearby perch. Little Guy felt very relieved. Not only was he able to control the new move perfectly, but he now had a much more comfortable position in battle.

The petite blue bird, perched upon M.A.'s lap, seemed disconsolate when Sting had been more or less defeated. Her little eyes followed the exhausted Beedrill back into his ball; she didn't like to see her vigorous new friend down for the round. Her trainer, noticing this, patted the Swablu's little head comfortingly. "Sting's already fought and won over Bugsy's last Pokemon; he's done terrific." With that, Ulani's grievances flashed down the drain, her usual cheeriness evident once more as she cheered for Ky's Natu. Expressively, she winced when Scyther shaved the bird's wing; if that was her, she would have absolutely thrown a fit. Dirtiness was one thing. She could rid herself of that with some careful pruning. But if her lovely cottony wings were even cut just a tiny little bit. . . It would be almost three days before it completely grew back! Adopting the most ferocious face she could manage, she sneered at the Syther, clearly not liking the fellow. Nevertheless, the bright little Cotton Bird watched the battle intently, learning a little bit of this and that. After all, she knew she'd be battling soon, too, and began to feel a little nervousness creep up her beak. Well, well, M.A. had confidence in her, so she would have some in herself, too.

Mary-Anne herself was intimidated by the Mantis. What a big bug. . . And it had scythes. . . And it was strongfastruthless. Mary-Anne bit her lip. Alright, so she hadn't totally gotten over her phobia of insects, but it wasn't like thowe were things that were erased instantly overnight. But she wouldn't let it get to her. No, she couldn't. Scyther was a Pokemon, just like Daemyn and Sting and Ulani was. He just happened to be green and scary, that's all.

As the bird disappeared from his sights Scyther began frantically looking around, scraping his bladed hands together. He found the scratching and scraping sounds positively delightful, helped him concentrate. However, as he couldn't see his opponent, he needed the utmost silence to determine the Natu's location. After he threw a nasty look at the pesky cotton ball that felt the need to attempt intimidation, the Bug halted his grinding, standing perfectly still and closing his eyes. He felt his sense of hearing dominate all of his attention. His master's breathing, the observer's heartbeat, even the near silent flutter of the Swablu's wings were all amplified, echoing throughout his head. Bugsy drew in a breath, knowing full well of his Pokemon's need for quiet conditions.

As the moments passed without so much as a sound, The Gym Leader and his Pokemon remained statuesque, awaiting for the Natu's move.

Lisa’s frown grew even larger as she watched Jaeshan’s Victreebel place her unconscious Clefable on the ground, his deep green vine retracting to its normal length as it did so. The blue-haired girl recalled her fallen Fairy, eyeing both the Flycatcher and Jaeshan, the look on her face clearly stating that she wished she had a Fire-type among her party. This wasn’t to be the case as she loftily tossed another Pokeball onto the field, and before it even touched the ground, a Pokemon burst from it, flapping its powerful wings and shrieking horribly. Its elongated beak was sharp and threatening, and its eyes became fixed on its new prey below it. “All right Fearow, slam that overgrown weed with a Fly attack!” Another screech bellowed from the Fearow’s throat as it soared upward, glaring down at Victreebel from above, taking aim.

Knowing there was nothing he could do while the Fearow was so high in the sky, Jaeshan looked to Victreebel and thought for a moment. Even if Victreebel focused all his efforts into avoiding the attack, he knew that the Flycatcher’s lack of speed would be its downfall and he'd be hit regardless. “Use Growth,” the blonde boy called out, and Victreebel closed his eyes for a moment, focusing his energies and causing the leaves and vine on his body to become a bit larger, giving him a boost in his special attack power. A small screech came from the Grass-type this time, and he looked up, bracing himself as the Fearow tucked its wings to its sides and began to dive towards him.

The wild Geodude crossed it's arms in an x-shape, and a ball of light glowed around it. Defense Curl.

Ratata ran at Geodude and chomped down on it-hard. "Ratata?!" Train cried, then stopped when she saw it actually did some damage. "A Bite attack! Great, Ratata!" She cried happily.

The Geodude was shocked that the mouse creature had hurt with merely it's teeth. Though the Defense Curl had helped protect it quite a bit. It flung another rock at the purple and white pokemon, but Ratata dodged.

Mitsu finally made her way back to the red roofed building. The sliding doors opened with a soft whoosh allowing the young girl though. "Nurse Joy, is there a place I can sleep for the night?" she asked, attempting to stifle a yawn. The pink haired nurse directed her into a small room with a bed in the corner. "Thanks," she said with a polite smile before closing the door. She placed her bag near to foot of the bed, along with the Pokeballs sitting atop a small table adjacent to the bed. Mitsu had never really slept in the beds at the Pokemon Center, usually to tired to find a room or the idea just never occurred to her. The bed was covered in soft, clean, white sheets and a fluffy pillow to match. Mitsu lay down and pulled the blankets around her and was asleep in a matter of minutes.

Her soft breathing evened out as the sun rose above the busy city. People were already out and about getting to work or doing various other weekday things. Mitsu stretched her arms before getting out of the bed. She took note that her clothes were slightly wrinkled and dirty. After combing her hair the best she could manage and picking up her stuff, she walked over to what appeared to be a sort of laundry room. She threw in her dirty clothes into the wash and stepped out to the girl's bathroom. After a nice shower and other morning routines she quickly changed into a new set of clothing that she had picked up yesterday while shopping. It was a simple dark blue short-sleeved shirt with a small cloud design near the bottom, and a pair of jeans that weren't too tight nor too loose. After fetching her now clean clothing and folding them into place inside her bag she set out for the cafeteria to grab a bite to eat.

"No need to be so shy," Keegan grinned, trying to help Maven relax a bit. "We're all good people here, so there's no need to be so nervous." He caught sight of Kasiya inching towards him, and chuckled to himself. Before the battle had started, he had told her to not hold anything back, and at the same time he'd been openly teasing her a bit. A feeling of fatigue started to creep through him, and the thought of sleep was rather enticing. Deciding to keep his feigned lack of interest in the girl going just a bit longer, he stretched and yawned elaborately. "I think I'm going to call it a night," he said, turning to head towards the dormitories that Nina had pointed out before. "Oh, before I forget," he grinned playfully before taking a step back and pulling Kasiya into the type of hug that one would give their friends. "Congratulations on your badge," he whispered in her ear, letting her go and brushing a stray strand of blonde hair from her cheek. "I'll see you in the morning. G'night."

"Keegan's right, Maven," Kasiya said reassuringly. She too was starting to think that sleep was a very good idea at this point, for it had been a long day for her. She stifled a yawn of her own, her eyes growing wide as suddenly Keegan was coming towards her. Her heart rate shot up significantly, but quickly fell back down to normal when he only hugged her rather casually. He was teasing with her; this she became sure of as he touched her cheek. Maybe this time he wanted her to make the first move? Not really sure what see should do, an annoyed pout appeared on her face, and she put her hands on her hips, watching him walk away. He was almost at the doorway to the dormitories before she'd made up her mind.

Pushing the hair from her face, she took a deep breath, and started to follow Keegan, being sure to make as little noise as possible so that he wouldn't know that she was coming up behind him. Upon reaching him, she tapped him on the shoulder, and smiled cutely up at him when he turned to look at her. "You forgot something," she said, taking a deep breath and pushing aside every ounce of nervousness inside of her. She practically jumped forward, throwing both of her arms around Keegan's neck and pressed her lips up against his, the force of her momentum enough to send them both crashing to the ground. When she was sure she'd gotten her point across, Kasiya ended the kiss and pulled herself to her feet, brushing herself off like nothing had happened. "Good night," she told him, ruffling his hair with her hand as she turned to look back at the others, particularly Maven, who she guessed was new to town and had nowhere else to go otherwise. "Anyone else going to bed?" she asked, before she started laughing and headed off into the girls' side of the dorms.

Maven watched the display happen and couldn't help but giggle. Keegan and Kasiya were right, no need to be nervous. Maven yawned. They were both right on that part as well. Trevor had only given her about an hour of sleep. Maven stretched and waved.

"I'm coming Kasiya. Stupid cousin." Maven muttered the last bit and jogged to catch up with the younger girl.

She quickly caught up to Kasiya and smiled at her.

"Good idea. Smooth move." Maven chuckled softly and followed Kasiya

Keegan really only had time to turn around when he felt a light tapping on his shoulder, and the next thing he knew, he was being kissed, as well as being shoved rather forcefully to the ground. Reflexively, he thrust out both arms behind him in order to keep the back of his head from slamming into the gym floor, but was more than happy to return the gesture. Tilting his head, he wore a crooked sort of smile, watching as Maven ran past him to follow Kasiya into the dorms. He looked back up towards Nina, Raimundo and Whitney from his lazy sitting position on the floor. "Did... did that really just happen?" he asked, blinking in amazement and halfheartedly trying to smooth out his messy hair.

Jaeshan averted his eyes as the Fearow struck Victreebel; the latter letting out a pained scream as the bird’s beak tore at the soft flesh of his belly. Lisa pumped her fist into the air after the successful attack, but she knew it would take more than that to bring down Jae’s Victreebel. “Okay Fearow! That was good! Now lay into him with your Fury Attack!”

The much faster bird thrust its beak forward, adding four more gashes to Victreebel’s belly before he could fully recover. At Jaeshan’s command, Victreebel raised the leaf covering his mouth and forced out a glob of sludge, which managed to score a hit against Fearow’s stomach. As it flapped its wings and flew back up into the air, the bird could already feel the poison from the Sludge Bomb seeping through its feathers and skin. Turning to glare back down at the annoying Flycatcher below it, Fearow let out an angered squawk, awaiting its next order.

Jaeshan frowned up at the sky; so long as Fearow stayed airborne, he had little chance of fighting back against it. “Try a Razor Leaf,” he urged, looking up at the sky and hoping that Victreebel could manage to hit it. The Grass-type let out a loud scream and swung his large leaves upward, shooting a barrage of razor-sharp leaves at the flying Pokemon. It was more than easy for Fearow to avoid being hit by the oncoming assault, and once again it tucked its wings close to its body and dove down, lashing out with its talons and sharp beak, making for an unavoidable Aerial Ace.

"He brought it upon himself," Kasiya smirked at Maven, glancing at the young Vulpix she carried in her arms. She pushed open the door to the girls' dormitory, and looked around, wanting to change the subject, at least for now. I wonder why there are sleeping quarters here, she mused, but suddenly realized she knew the answer to her own question. Saffron Gym was fairly big, and before her death, Sabrina had many trainers who spent time in here working on their own psychic powers with the gym leader as their mentor. Many of those trainers would have been from out of town, and needed a place to stay. Looking around the room, Kasiya chose a bed somewhat near the front of the room, and dropped her things on the floor. She took the TM Nina had given her out of her pocket and studied it before she put it in the case with the others. "It's Calm Mind," she told Maven as she kicked off her shoes. "I don't know what I'm going to do with that one." She slipped the green vest from her shoulders and proceeded to pin the Marsh Badge next to the Soul Badge, under the Cascade Badge she'd won from Misty a few weeks ago. "Six badges," she smiled to herself, flopping back on the soft bed and closing her eyes. "Next gym is on...Cinnabar Island. Blaine...volcano...fire..." her muttering seemed to taper off as she started to doze, after only having a short nap during the train ride to Saffron.

Maven smiled at the young girl who pinned the new badge to her. Maven picked a bed close to Kasiya and watched her drift off to sleep quickly. She smiled to herself and laid back down on the bed and looked up at the cieling allowing her thoughts to run through her head. She's nice. This is different. I wonder what Trevor would say. heh...I wonder if she'd let me draw some of her pokemon tomorrow...or if she'll let me ask her some questions about her training method... Mavens eyes closed allowing sleep to sweep over her

"Tail Whip!" Train commanded Ratata. The mouse-pokemon jumped up and whacked the wild Geodude with it's tail, lowering the floating rock pokemon's defense a bit.

Geodude picked up another rock and flung it at Ratata. Ratata managed to escape some damage, but it's tail got caught under the rock. Ratata squirmed, trying to get free and, little by little, finally managed.

"Bite, Ratata!" Train called out. Ratata chomped on Geodude once again, doing more damage since the enemy pokemon's defense had been lowered.
